Although, the application of make-up is routine activity for women, it is said that Japanese women and Korean women are different in the colors they select. While it has been reported that Japanese women use a comparatively lighter color and korean woman use a darker color, no measurement have actually been made. this study conducted in two countries, Japan and Korea, which are geographically near each other. The purpose of this study was to comparison the color of foundation-applied skin in Korean and Japanese women in their 20's. I measured 3 sites on the face. The results were analyzed by using a 3-way ANOVA(nationality, site, make-up) and t-test or multiple-comparison test(Fisher's PLSD). The results of this study were: 1) The Japnese women showed more reddish skin color than Korean women in their bare skin. 2)Both the Japanese and the Korean women wear slightly yellowish make-up than their bare skin. 3) Both the Japanese and Koreans wear darker make-up on their cheeks. It is common method of make-up found in both countries.

이길영 한국외국어대학교 외국어교육연구소 2011 외국어교육연구 Vol.25 No.1
Many children go to ESL countries to study abroad or to follow their family every year. It is largely considered that they can learn English easily in ESL settings. However, many of them face more difficulties than they thought. This case study is focusing on an eleven year old Korean boy who is staying in the US with his family for a year. How he behaves was explored qualitatively to find any factors contributing to his English development in the US. The boy was interviewed in an ethnographical approach. His mother, his two teachers and his tutor was interviewed. In addition, the field notes were made by the researcher. Seven themes emerged from recursive analysis of the data; ‘Motivation full of competitive spirit’,‘Being into sports’, ‘Dan is recognized as a good boy’, ‘They are kind’, ‘He is willing to take risks’, ‘He likes to speak lines like an actor’, ‘There is nothing wrong with asking’. In his case, all the themes converged on enhancing language development. Some principles of causation found in this case explaining the language development could be a lesson to be considered for other elementary children who are moving to ESL countries.

This study examines the effect of mentoring implemented by college student teachers (mentor) on secondary students (mentee) with regard to learning English. Two times of mentoring were conducted on secondary students of different backgrounds. The mentors paid a visit to the mentees once a week and also carried out online E-mentoring. It was expected that the atmosphere of mentoring would be comfortable enough for the mentees to take more risks and learn English more effectively. The questionnaires were conducted on the mentors and the mentees. The E-mail interaction between the mentors and the mentees were transcribed for analysis. The results showed that mentoring helped the mentees to come to know learning strategies as well as grammar and vocabulary. They also revealed that their attitudes for living their lives have got positive. At the same time, the mentors were glad that they had a chance to reflect their methods of teaching English in their mentoring.
