Robert Frost의 勞動이 지닌 眞價에 대한 考察
沈仁輔 釜山大學校 1981 人文論叢 Vol.20 No.1
"The fact is the sweetest dream that labor knows"('Mowing", 13) is the main theme of this paper, in which four factors are analyzed from Robert Frost's poems: 'Mowing','After Apple-Picking' and 'Birches'. In these poems dream-like facts, tangible dreams, and graceful revelations of truth rise out of some acts of labor. Frost's particular thoughts on metaphor and making poetry help to answer these matters about the confusion of fact, dream, and truth ending in his " a clarification of life... a monentary stay against confusion" (The Fignre a Poem Makes).Frost's metaphors often come from the work of field and orchard, and so many poems mingle dreams and practicqal considerations and assert the union of labor, need and love of human life. In 'Mowing' the mower plays lightly with the "fact" and the imaginations learing of voice. the labor and dream in 'After Apple-Picking' also become indulgence and exaggeration. As the harvest describes his sleep coming on, he moves back and forth between the facts of the orchard. He confuses his sense and sense of time and place, being absorbed in his day's work and consequent weariness. So his dream is not of the gift of idle hours but of magnified facts before his eyes. 'Birches' also has fact, dream, and truth as the earnest love of a boy in a swinger game. In 'Birches' the facts grow the more and more figurative as the poet's imagination in preferring real sounds. Frost knows metaphor's limits as well as sounds and implies that every body in working knows them. The poet's imagination, with metaphors which attend to longings and to real events, restores free will without distorting the truth. In conclusion, Frost does not confuses fact and dream for the cleverness but to cherish real moments and thus say the way one may come in leading to knowledge. Metaphor, fact, dream and truth in their value bring the poet into an intimate relation with the earth as to practical and loving relation, therefore being true and necessary to life itself. As Frost writes the poems in the subtle and inventive way, he shows us the integrity of a thought in disclosing the every elements of fatocrs relating to human life. Any bodyk, like Frost, is desirable to see the fact, dream, and truth in falling into hard labor and earnest love. And then they knows this earth on which human being lives is the heaven that the poems have in fact, dream, and truth of metaphors.
Archibald MacLeish : 영원한 미국 시인 An American Poet forever
심인보 釜山大學校 1995 人文論叢 Vol.46 No.1
This Paper surveys the Poetic images of Archibal MacLeish(1892-1982), who is one of the modern American poets : honorable, intelligent, gifted, perceptive and humane. He acted as a poet, playwright, editor, journalist, and political adviser. Ibis paper analyses his poetic theories in the five sections an American poetic weathercock, a poetic language and form, a fortunate fall of man, a man's belief, a poet's business, and a poet of unlimited time. In each section there is a critical point of view on his poetic images which are dispersed throughout his great deal of poems. The writer of this paper proceeds to approach his poetic images by emphasizing the thoughts and ideas of his poems as follow : First of all, he uses American language as poetic dictions in the taught speech and the aped tongue with the capture of the rhythmic line as well as with intensely personal feeling, endeavouring to give the ordinary reader some of the eat commonplaces of modem emotional experience. Secondarily, he is seekng a new understanding of the nature of democracy, the realationship of the intellectual to a democratic society ; his activities and utterance are logical sequel as poet and analyst of American democracy. In order to defense the democratic society in America, he uses the fury and splendor, the clash of ideals and civilzations as symbols of the modern world-wide clash of systems and ideas.
