D Vol.9 No.6
This paper presents the development of a protein interaction database. The developed system is characterized as follows. First, the proposed system not only maintains interaction data collected by an experiment, but also the genomic information of the protein data. Secondly, the system can extract details on interacting proteins through the developed wrappers. Thirdly, the system is based on wrapper-based system in order to extract the biologically meaningful data from various web sources and integrate them into a relational database. The system inherits a layered-modular architecture by introducing a wrapper-mediator approach in order to solve the syntactic and semantic heterogeneity among multiple data sources. Currently the system has wrapped the relevant data for about 40% of about 11,500 proteins on average from various accessible sources. A wrapper-mediator approach makes a protein interaction data comprehensive and useful with support of data interoperability and integration. The developing database will be useful for mining further knowledge and analysis of human life in proteomics studies.
Nearest Neighbor Based Prototype Classification Preserving Class Regions
2017 Journal of information processing systems Vol.13 No.5
A prototype selection method chooses a small set of training points from a whole set of class data. As the datasize increases, the selected prototypes play a significant role in covering class regions and learning adiscriminate rule. This paper discusses the methods for selecting prototypes in a classification framework. Weformulate a prototype selection problem into a set covering optimization problem in which the sets arecomposed with distance metric and predefined classes. The formulation of our problem makes us drawattention only to prototypes per class, not considering the other class points. A training point becomes aprototype by checking the number of neighbors and whether it is preselected. In this setting, we propose agreedy algorithm which chooses the most relevant points for preserving the class dominant regions. Theproposed method is simple to implement, does not have parameters to adapt, and achieves better orcomparable results on both artificial and real-world problems.
Vol.2002 No.0

The prediction of protein function basically make use of a protein-protein interaction map based on the concept of guilt-by-association. The method however cannot determine the functions of proteins in case that the target protein does not interact with proteins with known functions directly. This paper studies protein function prediction considering the given problem as a K-class classification problem and proposes a predictive approach utilizing a modular neural network. The proposed method uses interaction data and protein related attributes as well. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed approach can predict the functional roles of Yeast proteins whose interaction knowledge is not known and shows better performance than the graph-based models that use protein interaction data.

This study investigated the dissolution characteristics of lagoon sludge in the dissolution- filtration process which dissolve nitrate salts contained in sludge by using water. The dissolved amounts of uranium and nitrate increased rapidly and gradually with dissolution time, respectively. The sludge have to be dissolved within short time to dissolve the smallest uranium. The dissolved amount of uranium, nitrate, and calcium except ammonium increased with the adding ratio of water. Operation condition have to be decided under the condition that uranium is leached minimal and waste water is reduced maximal. Optimum condition was 2.5 weight ratio of [H_2O]/[sludge].
Recent Developments in Ion-Exchange Nanocomposite Membranes for Energy Applications
Vol.26 No.6
In the last decade, various types of energy harvesting and conversion systems based on ion exchange membranes (IEMs) have been developed for eco-friendly power generation and energy-grid systems. In these membrane-based energy systems, high ion selectivity and conductivity properties of IEMs are critical parameters to improve efficiency of the systems such as proton exchange membrane fuel cells, anion exchange membrane fuel cells, redox flow batteries, water electrodialysis for hydrogen production, and reverse electrodialysis. This article suggests variable approaches to overcome trade-off limitation of polymeric membrane ion transport properties by reviewing various types of composite ion-exchange membranes including novel inorganic-organic nanocomposite membrane, surface modified membranes, cross-linked and pore-filled membranes.
