To find active components in Ganoderma Iucidum. their free amino acid and free amino acid derivatives were analyzed. After extracting with hot water, the extracts were filtrated by three steps. So, supernatants below 10,000 dalton were obtained. Filtrates were derivativated with PITC (phenylthiocarbamyl) derivative reagent and PITC amino acid was obtained. Then, they were analyzed by RP-HPLC. 13 amino acids were analyzed in cultured Korean Nok-kak ji (one of Ganoderma Iucidum), 15 amino acids in cultured Korean Ganoderma Iucidum, 12 amino acids wild Ganoderma Iucidum, 16 amino acids in cultured Taiwan Ganodenna Iucidum.

비만 마우스의 산화적 스트레스에 대해 바나듐 함유 제주 지하수에 대한 연구로서, 제주 지하수는 수도수 처리군보다 비만 마우스 간의 과산화 지질을 감소시켰으며, superoxide dismutase, catalase, 그리고 glutathione peroxidase의 단백질 발현 및 활성 그리고 환원형 glutathione 양을 증가 시켰다. 제주 지하수는 항산화 효소의 전사 인자인 erythroid transcription factor NF-E2 (Nrf2)의 인산화형 단백질 발현을 증가시켰다. 이로서 제주 지하수는 Nrf2의 활성화를 통하여 항산화 효소시스템을 증가시켰다. The present study examined the effects of consumption of Jeju ground water containing vanadium components on oxidative stress in obese (ob/ob) mice. Intake of Jeju ground water decreased the generation of oxidative stress induced-lipid peroxidation in the liver of ob/ob mice It also enhanced the enzymatic antioxidant defense system by increasing the protein expression and activity of superoxide dismutase, catalase, and glutathione peroxidase in liver tissues. Jeju ground water intake also upregulated the intracellular content of reduced glutathione. The induction of antioxidant enzyme expression by consumption of Jeju ground water was mediated by the erythroid transcription factor NF-E2 (Nrf2). Increased nuclear expression of phospho Nrf2 was observed in ob/ob mouse liver cells following ntake of Jeju ground water. These results suggest that consumption of Jeju ground water stimulated the antioxidant defense system in the livers of ob/ob mice via induction of Nrf2.

Ceramium boydenii belongs to euphorbia humitusa of red algae, and is distributed along the coast of Jeju island. This study was conducted to examine the anti-inflammatory effect and action mechanism of C. boydenii in the human keratinocyte cell line HaCaT. The 80% EtOH extract of C. boydenii inhibits the production of MDC (macrophage derived chemokine), an inflammatory chemokine, induced by IFN-γ and TNF-α in a concentration dependent manner. It also suppressed the phosphorylation and nuclear translocation of STAT1, a key transcription factor in IFN-γ and TNF-α signaling pathway, at the effective concentrations. These results suggest that C. boydenii demonstrates the anti-inflammatory activity via the suppression of STAT1 activation and has the significant value as an anti-inflammatory source.

식용 달팽이 (Achatina fulica)의 추출물 RM 60을 사용하여 E. coli D31을 대상으로 순수한 항균성 물질을 분리정제하였다. 정제한 항균성 물질은 MALDI-TOF Mass spectrometra를 사용하여 분자량을 측정한 결과, 1392.64 Da의 단일 peak를 얻을 수 있었으며, 이 후 Edman 분해법을 이용한 peptide sequencer를 사용하여 일차구조 분석을 조사하고 있다. An antimicrobial substance was purified from the giant snail body extract (Achatina fulica) using solid-phase extraction and separation on HPLC reversed-phase chromatography. The primary structure were determined by a combination of an automated amino acid sequence and MALDI-TOF Mass. Its molecular mass was found to be 1392.64 Da. This result was in excellent agrement with the theoretical molecular mass calculated from the amino acid sequence. purified peptide showed antimicrobial activity in vitro against Escherichia coli D31. This result indicate that giant snail whole body was potentially antimicrobial.

To enhance our understanding of immunological stimulating effects through the pathway by which nitric oxide (NO) activity and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) enzyme activity from the marine algae, Ulva lactuca, we have investigated NO activity by using mouse RAW264.7 cell line. And ALP enzyme activity performed by spleen of ICR mouse. The results showed that NO activity of the H₂O fraction is the most effective than activities of other solvent fractions.

Antitumor activity was tested by administration of reaction mixture of green onion extract and chitin to mice bearing sarcoma-180 cells. An intraperitoneal injection of mixture(20mg/kg/day) to mice gave an 52% inhibition of tumor growth. Inhibition of tumor growth was found to be dose-dependent. When eighty miligrams of the mixture were administered, the weight of tumor was reduced significantly. HPLC analysis indicated the mixture was composed of N-acetyl-D-glucosamine, N-acetylchitobiose and N-acetylchitotriose.

Twenty-five compounds were isolated from the methanolic extract of Geum japonicum (Rosaceae), and their structures were identified as eleven triterpenoids [ursolic acid 3-acetate (2), cecropiacic acid 3-methyl ester (3), pomolic acid 3-acetate (5), ursonic acid (6), ursolic acid (7), pomolic acid (8), corosolic acid (9), euscaphic acid (11), arjunic acid (16), tormentic acid (18), 23-hydroxytormentic acid (21)], two saponins [rosamultin (22) and kaji-ichigoside F1 (23)], two megastigmanes [blumenol A (14) and (+)-dehydrovomifoliol (15)], three flavonoids [apigenin (13), isoquercitrin (17) and tiliroside (24)], two ellagic acid derivatives [3,3`-di-O-methylellagic acid (12) and ducheside B (25)] and five others [eugenol (1), emodin (4), vanillic acid (10), gallic aldehyde (19), salidroside (20)]. The chemical structures of these compounds were identified on the basis of spectroscopic methods and comparison with literature values. This is the first report of the eleven compounds, 2~6, 10, 15, 16, 20, 23, and 25 from the genus Geum, as well as the first report of apigenin (13) and 3,3`-di-O-methylellagic acid (12) from G. japonicum. The antioxidant properties of 22 isolates (1~11, 14, 16~25) were evaluated by the intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) radical scavenging using 2`,7`-dichlorodihydrofluorescein diacetate (DCF-DA) assay. Among them, isoquercitrin (17) showed significant scavenging activity, and gallic aldehyde (19) and ducheside B (25) showed weak scavenging activity.
