Political Economy of Immigration and Fiscal Sustainability

This paper introduces a politico-economic model with a welfare state and immigration. In this model, policies on taxes and immigration are determined through a plurality voting system. While many studies of fiscal implications of immigration argue that relaxing immigration policies can substitute for tax reforms in an aging economy, I show that the democratic voting procedure can dampen the effect of relaxing immigration policies as desired policy reforms are not always implemented by the winner of an election. This political economy results in three types of social welfare losses. First, the skill composition is not balanced at a socially efficient level because workers are motivated to maximize their wages. Second, older retirees implement excessive taxes to maximize the size of the welfare state. Third, the volume of immigration is lower than the optimal level given the incentive by young workers to regain political power in the future.

Using the finite element method, this study investigates the dynamic time responses of a flexible spinning disk of which axis of rotation is misaligned with the axis of symmetry. The misalignment between the axes of symmetry and rotation is one of the major vibration sources in optical disk drives such as CD-ROM, CD-R, CD-RW and DVD drives. Based upon the Kirchhoff plate theory and the von-Karman strain theory, three coupled equations of motion for the misaligned disk are obtained: two of the equations are for the in-plane motion while the other is for the out-of-plane motion. After transforming these equations into two weak forms for the in-plane and out-of-plane motions, the weak forms are discretized by using newly defined annular sector finite elements. Applying the generalized-$\alpha$ time integration method to the discretized equations, the time responses and the displacement distributions are computed and then the effects of the misalign ment on the responses and the distributions are analyzed. The computation results show that the misalignment has an influence on the magnitudes of the in-plane displacements and it results in the amplitude modulation or the beat phenomenon in the time responses of the out-of-plane displacement.
Perlite와 NFT 재배방식에 따른 채소작물의 생육특성연구

본 연구는 채소작물에 알맞은 양액재배용 배지를 구하기 위해 수행되었다. 사용된 채소 작물은 샐러리, 엔다이브, 결구상추이었으며 2가지 사용된 배지는 필라이트와 암면(대,소)이었다. 이용된 채소작물들의 생장특성은 필라이트 재배시보다 암면재배시 양호한 것으로 나타났다. 샐러리와 엔다이브는 작은 암면을 사용했을 때가 큰 암면을 사용했을 때보다 생육이 양호했으며 결구상추는 반대로 나타났다. 그러므로 본 실험에서 사용된 채소작물들에 알맞은 양약재배 배지는 필라이트 재배방식보다는 암면인 것으로 추측되며 암면의 크기가 생장에 영향을 끼치는 것으로 생각된다. This study was carried out to decide a optimum medium for three vegetable crops in a soilless culture. The vegetable crops used were celery(APium graveolns L.), endive(Cichorium endivia L), and head lettuce(Lactuca sativa L. var, Capitata) and media used were a perlite and a rockwood with a nutrient film technique(NFT). Growth characteristics of the vegetable crops were investigated in early two stages. The vegetables appeared to grow better in NFT(rockwood) system than in a large rockwood system, while head lettuce showed better growth in a large rockwood system. Therefore, it may be concluded that an optimum best hydroponic system fot the vegetables is a rockwood system, and that the size of rockwood is a significant influence on the growth of the vegetables.

In this paper, we develop a detailed full dynamic model which includes various rough terrains for 6-wheel skid-steering mobile robot based on the real experimental autonomous vehicle called Dog-Horse Robot. We also design a co-simulation for performance comparison of path tracking algorithms. The control architecture in the co-simulation can be divided into two levels. The high level control is the closed-loop control of path tracking to follow a given path, and the low level is concerned about torque control of wheel motion. The simulation using the mechanical data of the Dog-Horse Robot is performed under the Matlab/Simulink environment. We also simulate and evaluate the performance of the model based adaptive controller.
간세포암 환자의 발생원인에 따른 말초혈액의 T 세포 아형과 자연살해세포능의 비교

Backgrounds : Many cancer patients, such as Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC), have a compromised cellular immune system. Several lympocytes subpopulations are involved in immunosurveillance against tumors. We try to evaluate on alteration of peripheral T cell subsets, NK cell and NK cell activity in patients with HCC. Materials and Method : Our study contain 257 patients with chronic liver disease. Of the 257 patients, 147 patients were chronic hepatitis, 44 patients were liver cirrhosis, 66 patients were Hepatocellular carcinoma. We distributed these patients to 3 groups due to cause, chronic hepatitis B (1st group, n=183), chronic hepatitis C (2nd group, n=52), alcoholic liver disease(3rd group, n=22). This study analysis ratio of CD3+, CD4+ CD8+, CD56+ T cell and NK cell activity. Results : The percentage of CD3+ and CD8+ cells were significantly decreased in LC and HCC groups. The activity of NK cells was significantly decreased in HCC than hepatitis group in HBV group. But not different in HCV and alcohol groups. NK cell and NK cell activity were significant decreased in HCC of younger patients (below 40 years) than older patients (above 60 years). Conclusions : Our study showed HCC was altered cellular immune system and decreased activity of NK cells. On the basis of this results, it can be suggested that decreased activity of NK cells according to age may be related to differnce of common age, prognosis and response of immune therapy.

충남 아산지역 논 토양의 양분특성 및 중금속함량을 조사하기 위하여 50개 지역의 토양을 채취하여 유효인산량, 토양 pH, 유기물함량, 치환성 양이온함량 및 중금속함량을 측정하였다. 조사토양의 pH는 4.68~6.08 범위에 있었으며 유기물함량 및 유효인산의 평균치는 각각 1.95% 및 566ppm으로 나타났다. 치환성 양이온함량의 평균치는 Ca: 5.19, Mg: 1.54 및 K: 0.66me/100g · soil 이었다. 또한 토양중금속함량은 Cd: 0.74-0.38, Pb: 0.03-0.32 및 Zn: 1.4-5.6 mg/kg으로 조사되었다. 이상의 결과로 아산지역의 논 토양은 이화학적 성질이 전국토양 평균치보다 우수하였으며 작물 생산에 유해할 정도의 중금속 오염은 없는 것으로 판단되었다. Soil-pH, available-P concentration, organic matter content, exchangeable cation and heavy metal contents were measured to examine the physicochemical properties in poddy soils of Asan area. Soil-pH ranged from 4.68 to 6.08 and organic matter and available-P content were 1.9% and 566ppm, respectively. The concentrations of exchangeable Ca, Mg and K were 5.19, 1.54 and 0.66me/100g soil. respectively. The heavy metal Concentration were Cd; 0.74-0.38, Pb; 0.03-0.32 and Zn;1.4~5.6mg/kg, respectively. These results showed that the nutrient content in Asan area were higher than those of the average in Korean soils and the heavy metal concentrations were lower than the critical level for crop production.
