        허선 대한혈액학회 2018 Blood Research Vol.53 No.2

Background: Blood Research (formerly) was renamed 5 years ago. It aimed to identify the progress of the renamed journal at the international level based on journal metrics. Methods: Journal metrics, including total cites, impact factor, and Hirsch index were calculated or found from Scopus, SCimago Journal & Country Rank, and Web of Science on March 27, 2018. Results: The number of citable articles from 2013 to 2017 was 196, and that of non-citable articles was 157. The authors belonged to 25 countries. The editorial board members were from 33 countries. Total cites in Scimago Journal & Country Rank and Web of Science Core Collection in 2017 was 257 and 235, respectively. The cites per two years from Scimago Journal & Country Rank and the calculated impact factor from Web of Science Core Collection in 2016 were 1.353 and 1.382, respectively. The number of citing authors' countries in Web of Science Core Collection was 61. The number of citing journals in Web of Science Core Collection was 422. In 2016, the Hirsch index was 12 for Scimago Journal & Country Rank, and that in Web of Science Core Collection was 10.Conclusion: Since the title change, Blood Research has progressed rapidly on the international scene in terms of journal metrics. In particular, the results of total cites, impact factor, and Hirsch index were outstanding. This will enable its promotion as a high branded journal in the hematology category.

Many medical journals from Korea have advanced to the international level since 1996. This study aims to present the current status of Korean medical journals in scholarly literature databases and to suggest strategies for further development. This study focused on the 261 member journals of the Korean Association of Medical Journal Editors (KAMJE). In 2018, 29 journals from Korea were indexed in Medline, of which 22 were KAMJE journals. Since 2008, Korean medical journals have been deposited in PubMed Central. As of 2018, the number of journals deposited in PubMed Central has soared to 116, including 103 KAMJE journals. Ninety KAMJE journals were indexed in Scopus. The average 2017 impact factor of the 40 Science Citation Index Expanded-indexed KAMJE journals was 2.17. Furthermore, 35 journals have been indexed in the Emerging Sources Citation Index. To promote more medical journals to the international level, the following strategies are suggested: first, recruiting high-quality manuscripts with meticulous review and editing; and second, adopting digital standards of scholarly publishing, including full-text XML, to broaden accessibility. Medical journals from Korea have experienced tremendous success in terms of indexing in international literature databases. To promote journals to the highest level, physicians and researchers should be able to read, submit, cite and use the journal articles in a straightforward and diligent manner. With appropriate development strategies, it may be possible for a Nobel Prize to be awarded based on research published in medical journals in Korea in the near future.

Position of Ultrasonography in the scholarly journal network based on bibliometrics and developmental strategies for it to become a top-tier journal

        허선 대한초음파의학회 2020 ULTRASONOGRAPHY Vol.39 No.3

Purpose: This study aimed to clarify the present position of Ultrasonography in the scholarly journal network with a variety of bibliometric indicators. Furthermore, developmental strategies for Ultrasonography to become a top-tier journal are suggested. Methods: The following bibliometric indicators were analyzed: number of citable articles, countries of authors, total cites, impact factor, Hirsch index, authors' countries and source titles of citing articles, and the titles of sources cited by articles in Ultrasonography. Results: The annual number of citable articles was consistently 40 from 2014 to 2019. The number of countries of authors increased to 22 in 2018-2019. The numbers of total cites reached 632 in Web of Science, 595 in Scopus, and 552 in the Crossref metadata in 2019. The estimated 2-year impact factor soared from 2.15 in 2016 to 3.20 in 2019. The Hirsch index was 20 in both Scopus and the Web of Science Core Collection. Authors from 76 countries cited Ultrasonography. The number of source titles of citing articles was 668, and the number of source titles cited by articles in Ultrasonography was 1,246. Conclusion: The above bibliometric results show that Ultrasonography has become a top-tier journal in its field. Ultrasonography furnishes an example of how after changing its language policy to English-only, a local society journal became a highly cited journal in a short period of time. For further development of the journal, adoption of a data-sharing policy is recommended. Furthermore, indexation in MEDLINE should be pursued in the near future.

우리나라에서 흔히 볼 수 있는 기생충질환 치료약물에는 어떤 것이 있는가?

Incidence of parasitic diseases in Korea has been changing recently. The incidence of some parasitic diseases such as toxocariasis and cryptosporidiosis has increased, while that of soiltransmitted helminthic diseases has drastically decreased. Malaria reemerged in 1993 but has decreased in the 2010s. Here, common parasitic diseases that can be encountered in the clinical field are introduced, along with therapeutic agents such as anthelmintics, anti-malarial drugs, and anti-protozoan drugs to help general physicians select the appropriate medicine for parasitic diseases. Currently, soil-transmitted helminths are not a public health problem. On the other hand, the egg positive rate of Clonorchis sinensis has not decreased rapidly due to the habit of eating raw fresh water fishes in endemic areas; however, due to low worm density, it is difficult to detect infected persons only by clinical symptoms. Toxocariasis and ocular acanthamoebiasis can be detected more frequently due to appropriate diagnostic tools and physicians'concern. Cases of intestinal trematodiases, intestinal protozoasis, and vaginal trichomoniasis have decreased year by year. Since enterobiasis, pediculosis, and scabies are contact-borne diseases, local transmission and resurgence are always possible. Only a few antiparasitic agents can be prescribed in the clinics: albendazole, praziquantel, metronidazole, chloroquine, primaquine, and crotamiton. It may be helpful to general physicians to be reminded of the indications, prescription methods, and side effects described briefly for each drug that can be prescribed for parasitic diseases. Further information can be gathered from the Korea Pharmaceutical Information Service (http://www.kpis.or.kr/). For accurate diagnosis and prescription,a parasitologist may be consulted.
