Wastewater reuse are exposed public health risk by pathogens. Therefore, this study was examined for microbial risk assessment after irrigation as treated wastewater in paddy rice plots. Five treatments were used: biofilter effluent, UV disinfected water, pond treatment, wetland treatment and conventional irrigation water. Risk assessment was calculated based on the beta-Poisson model by concentration of E. coli from 2003 to 2005. Monte-Carlo simulation (n=10,000) was used to estimate the risk characterization of uncertainty. The risk range was from 10<sup>-5</sup> to 10<sup>-8</sup> except biofilter effluent was 10<sup>-4</sup> in June. The USEPA(1992) has recommended that risk of <10<sup>-4</sup> is acceptable level of safety for potable waters. In 2005, risk value was lower than 2003, 2004 because of the first irrigation for plowing water is lower E. coli concentration used tap water. It is shown that the first irrigation water quality was important for wastewater irrigation in paddy. UV disinfection and natural treatment used pond and wetland were thought to be an effective for wastewater reuse.

Primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC) is occasionally developed in patients with rheumatic diseases, such as systemic sclerosis or Sjogren’s syndrome. However, there are a few reports of overlap syndrome with PBC. The authors report a case of a 36 year-old female with PBC and overlap syndrome. Systemic sclerosis was diagnosed in 2007, and rheumatoid arthritis in 2010. Adalimumab stopped because of her pregnancy plan in January 2012. One month after delivery, she felt increased hand joint pain and fatigue. Laboratory findings were as follows: elevated AST, ALT, ALP, r-GTP and positive anti-mitochondrial antibody. Histology of a liver biopsy revealed moderate porto-periportal and mild lobular inflammation with bile duct inflammation, which was consistent with PBC. She was treated with prednisolone and UDCA (urosodeoxycholic acid), but her disease was not controlled. From May 2013, she has been treated with adalimumab. Her arthritis was improved and liver function test normalized up until now.

This article investigated the potential of substrate characteristics for the control of differentiation of stem cells. For this, two distinctive materials, alginate and HA (hydroxiapatite) contained PCL, were selected. Utilizing rapid prototype (RP) technique we fabricated each type of scaffold. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) derived from New Zealand White rabbits were suspended into alginate solution and the solution was plotted utilizing RP technique. The cocktail media which contain chondrogenic and osteogenic growth factors were used. The basal media were also used for comparison. During 14 days of experiments the samples were harvested four times. The results showed that MSCs tended to be differentiated into osteo- and chondrocyte-like cells when they were on PCL and in alginate scaffold, respectively even both of the two types of scaffolds were in basal media. These findings were more observable when the cocktail media were used. From this research we can stipulate that the characteristics of substrate materials should be considered along with biochemical reagents in the control of differentiation of stem cells. It is also recommended that the biomechanical factors, such as mechanical stimuli, should be considered in view of bio-mimetic environments.

Large scale projects of sea-land reclamation have been practiced mainly to enlarge farmland in Korea. Most projects produced estuarine reservoir with dike construction, which might result in water quality problems due to block of natural flowing of stream water to the sea. Applicability of a widely accepted watershed-based water quality assessment tool (BASINS) and its associated watershed model was evaluated on the Hwaong watershed in Korea. BASINS was found to be a convenient and powerful tool for assessment of watershed characteristics, and provided various tools to delineate the watershed into land segments and river reaches, reclassify land use, and parameterize for HSPF simulation. WASP5 is a general purpose modeling system for assessing the fate and transport of conventional and toxic pollutants in surface water bodies. This study involved selection and linkage of available models to be used as a tool in evaluating the effects of BMPs for control on reservoir water quality. Overall,.Linkage of BASINS/HSPF and WASP5 was applicable and found to be a powerful tool in pollutant loading estimation from the watershed and reservoir, and its use is recommended.

The reuse of wastewater for agricultural irrigation may cause human health risk as a result of exposure to pathogens. This study conducted the quantitative microbial risk assessment in paddy field irrigated with treated wastewater. Six treatments were used to irrigate the paddy field from Year 2003 to Year 2005: biofilter-effluent, UV-disinfected water (6, 16, 40, 68 $mW s cm^{-2}$), pond-treated water, wetland-treated water, conventional irrigation water and tap water. Total coliforms, fecal coliforms and E. coli were monitored during rice growing period. Beta - Poisson model was employed to calculate the microbial risk of pathogens ingestion that may occur to farmers and neighbor children. Uncertainty of risk was estimated using Monte Carlo simulation. In this study, the microbial risk was higher during initial cultivation (end of May$\sim$June), and it decreased with time. Biofilter effluent (secondary effluent) irrigation showed higher risk values than others (>$10^{-4}$) and irrigation with UV-disinfected water has the lowest risk range ($10^{-6}{\sim}10^{-5}$). The risk value estimated in 2005 was lower than risk value in 2003 and 2004, it is likely due to clean tap water irrigation in initial transplanting stage. It is suggested that irrigation with UV-disinfected water and pond-treated water would reduce the microbial risk associated with wastewater irrigation in paddy field. In addition, the first irrigation water quality significantly affected the subsequent microbial risk.
