Background and Objectives : Vocal polyps are caused by inflammation induced by stress or irritation. Many patients with vocal polyps complain voice discomfort. For vocal polyps, surgery such as laryngeal microsurgery has been the mainstay of management. We analyzed the clinical features of vocal polyps, and how the size and location of vocal polyps affect the outcomes of surgery. Methods : We retrospectively reviewed 42 patients from March 2014 to December 2015, who were diagnosed as unilateral single vocal polyp. When we operated on a vocal polyp with laryngeal microscopy, we measured their size and location. The quality of voice was evaluated by GRABS scale, jitter, shimmer, NHR (noise to harmonic ratio), MPT (maximum phonation time), and VHI (voice handicap index) before operation and 4 weeks after operation. Results : When we divided the patients into large-sized vocal polyp group (the longest length >3 mm) and small-sized vocal polyp group (the longest length ${\leq}3mm$), all parameter differences tend to be greater at large sized vocal polyp. However, these differences were not statistically significant (p>0.05). When we divided into two groups depending on the volume of vocal polyp, no distinct tendency was found. When we compared the location (anterior, mid and posterior) of vocal polyp with the improvement of voice quality, more change was found at mid portion vocal polyp, except the difference of VHI. However, these differences were also not statistically significant (p>0.05). Conclusion : All parameter differences tend to be greater at large vocal polyp and polyp of the mid location.
Self assembled-monolayer(SAM)법을 이용한 TaN 확산방지막의 무전해 Cu 도금용 Pd seed layer 제조 및 특성

Electroless deposition(ELD) was applied to fabricate Cu interconnections on a TaN diffusion barrier with Pd seed layer. The Pd seed layer was obtained by self-assembled monolayer method(SAM) with PDDA and PSS as surfactants. We were able to obtain about 10nm Pd nano particles as seeds for electroless Cu deposition and the density of Pd seeds was much higher than that of Pd seeds fabricated by conventional Pd sensitization-activation method. Also we were able to obtain finer Cu interconnections by ELD. Therefore we concluded that the Pd seed layer by SAM was able to be applied to form Cu interconnection by ELD for under 30nm feature.

The corrosion and degradation factors of a current collector in a molten carbonate fuel cell (MCFC) were investigated to determine the optimized coating thickness of nickel on STS316L. The results show that the surface morphology and electrical properties depended on the nickel coating thickness. The surface morphology gradually changed from a flat to a porous structure along as the nickel coating thickness decreased, and the electrical resistance of the nickel-coated STS316L increased as the nickel coating thickness decreased. This can be attributed to the diffusion of elements of Fe and Cr from the substrate through the nickel grain boundaries. Additionally, carburization in the metal grains or grain boundaries in an anodic environment was found to influence the electrical properties due to matrix distortion. The resistance of Cr-oxide layers formed in an anodic environment causes a drop in the potential, resulting in a decrease in the system efficiency.

Ectopic thyroid is known to be a very rare disease. Its prevalence is 1 in 100,000-300,000, and it is the mostcommon form of thyroid dysgenesis. In addition, it is known that primary thyroid cancer arising from ectopicthyroid tissue is rare. A 41-year-old male patient with mass in the anterior of the neck was admitted to ourdepartment of Otolaryngology. A surgical excision of the neck mass was carried out and the histopathologyrevealed papillary thyroid carcinoma. Total thyroidectomy and bilateral central neck dissection were then performedafter 3 months from previous operation. As a result of histopathologic examination after surgery, we incidentallyidentified papillary microcarcinoma in the right thyroid lobe. We report a case of ectopic thyroid papillarycarcinoma with incidental papillary thyroid microcarcinoma with a literature review.

Through the electrostatic interaction between the poly-diallydimethylammonium chloride (PDDA) modified Multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWNT) and $SnO_2$ suspension in 1mM $NaNo_3$ solution, MWNT-$SnO_2$ nanocomposites (MSC) for anode electrodes of a Li-ion battery were successfully fabricated by colloidal heterocoagulation method. TEM observation showed that most of the $SnO_2$ nanoparticles were uniformly deposited on the outside surface of the MWNT. Galvanostatic charge/discharge cycling tests showed that MSC anodes exhibited higher specific capacities than bare MWNT and better cyclability than unsupported nano-$SnO_2$ anodes. Also, after 20 cycles, the MSC anode fabricated by heterocoagulation method showed more stable cycle properties than the simply mixed MSC anode. These improved electrochemical properties are attributed to the MWNT, which adsorbs the mechanical stress induced from volume change and increasing electrical conductivity of the MSC anode, and suppresses the aggregation between the $SnO_2$ nanoparticles.

For this paper, we investigated the area specific resistance (ASR) of commercially available ferritic stainless steels with different chemical compositions for use as solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) interconnect. After 430h of oxidation, the STS446M alloy demonstrated excellent oxidation resistance and low ASR, of approximately 40 $m{\Omega}cm^2$, of the thermally grown oxide scale, compared to those of other stainless steels. The reason for the low ASR is that the contact resistance between the Pt paste and the oxide scale is reduced due to the plate-like shape of the $Cr_2O_3$(s). However, the acceptable ASR level is considered to be below 100 $m{\Omega}cm^2$ after 40,000 h of use. To further improve the electrical conductivity of the thermally grown oxide on stainless steels, the Co layer was deposited on the stainless steel by means of an electroless deposition method; it was then thermally oxidized to obtain the $Co_3O_4$ layer, which is a highly conductive layer. With the increase of the Co coating thickness, the ASR value decreased. For Co deposited STS444 with 2 ${\mu}m$hickness, the measured ASR at $800^{\circ}$ after 300 h oxidation is around 10 $m{\Omega}cm^2$, which is lower than that of the STS446M, which alloy has a lower ASR value than that of the non-coated STS. The reason for this improved high temperature conductivity seems to be that the Mn is efficiently diffused into the coating layer, which diffusion formed the highly conductive (Mn,Co)$_3O_4$ spinel phases and the thickness of the $Cr_2O_3$(S), which is the rate controlling layer of the electrical conductivity in the SOFC environment and is very thin

Objectives. Eustachian tube dysfunction has been associated with most cases of middle-ear disease. We aimed to assess the effectiveness of dynamic slow motion video endoscopy (DSVE) as a test of eustachian tube dysfunction. Furthermore, we assessed the correlation of the test with the Valsalva maneuver, the seven-item Eustachian Tube Dysfunction Questionnaire (ETDQ-7), and intraoperative findings of the eustachian tube. Methods. We retrospectively reviewed medical records from April to September 2014 to identify patients who were diagnosed with chronic otitis media (COM) at Korea University Ansan Hospital. They all underwent surgery because of COM without cholesteatoma and were assessed via the DSVE and ETDQ-7 to determine eustachian tube function. Results. We reviewed 46 COM patients and examined 46 ears with COM and 46 ears on the contralateral side to COM that were thought to be normal. The mean DSVE grade in COM ears was 1.57±0.96, while the mean DSVE grade in contralateral ears was 1.15±0.94. The difference in DSVE between COM ears and normal ears was statistically significant (P=0.006). In the ETDQ-7, a higher score was related to intraoperative obstruction of the eustachian tube (P=0.012). Conclusion. DSVE and ETDQ-7 can provide information regarding preoperative status of eustachian tube dysfunction by measuring dynamic structural changes of the eustachian tube in combination with other diagnostic tests.
Inconel 738LC의 Pt Modified-pack Aluminizing 내산화 코팅의 산화저항성에 미치는 Palladium 완충층의 영향

In this study, the effects of Pd buffer layer on the oxidation resistance of Pt modified-pack aluminized Inconel 738LC, used for gas turbine, were investigated. Pd was electroplated on Inconel 738LC, and Pt was electroplated on the electroplated Pd surface. Thus, the thickness of electroplated Pt/Pd was $10\;{\mu}m$ and the atomic ratio of Pt : Pd was about 6 : 4. After Pt/Pd electroplating, Inconel 738LC was pack aluminized to form the oxidation resistant layer. To investigate the oxidation resistance of Pt/Pd modified-pack aluminized Inconel 738LC, iso-thermal oxidation and cyclic oxidation were performed. The iso-thermal oxdation and the cyclic oxidation data indicated that the Pt/Pd modified-pack aluminized Inconel 738LC was more oxidation resistant than the Pt modified-pack aluminized Inconel 738LC. It was thought that the difference of thermal expansion coefficient between Inconel 738LC and Pt was lowered by the Pd buffer layer.
