This work proposes a noncontact ultrasonic transducer for detecting wall-thinning of containment liner plates of nuclear power plants by measuring their thickness without physical contact. Because the containment liner plate is designed to prevent atmospheric leakage of radioactive substances under severe nuclear accident, its wall-thinning inspection is important for safety of nuclear power plants. Wall-thinning investigation of containment liner plates have been carried out by measuring their thickness with contact-type ultrasonic thickness gauge by inspectors and needs a lot of time and cost. As an alternative, an electromagnetic acoustic transducer measuring precisely thickness of containment liner plates without any physical contact or couplant was suggested in this research. A transducer generating and measuring shear ultrasonic waves in thickness direction was designed and wave field produced by the transducer was analyzed to verify the design. The working performance of the suggested transducer was tested with carbon steel plate specimens with various thicknesses. The test result shows that the proposed transducer can measure thickness of the specimens precisely without any couplant and implies that swift scanning of wall-thinning of containment liner plates will be possible with the proposed transducer.

This work presents a method based on electromagnetic induction for the simultaneous non-contact measurement of two-axis lateral vibrations of a nonmetallic cylinder. The suggested method employs two pairs of hollow metallic loops, four pairs of permanent magnets and two solenoids. When the cylinder vibrates, eddy currents are generated in the metallic loops due to electromagnetic induction. The current in one pair of loop is induced by the lateral vibration in one direction, while the other by the lateral vibration in the perpendicular direction. The induced currents can be sensed through the remotely installed solenoids. While the proposed technique can be useful for the vibration measurement in hot or insulated cylinders, for which a contact type sensor is hardly applicable, the present study is focused on its underlying measurement mechanism and fundamental experiments. To this end, two-axis vibrations and frequency response functions of a thin nonmetallic cylinder were measured simultaneously by the proposed sensor. They were compared with those extracted by using commercial accelerometers to check the working performance of the proposed measurement technique. The effects of some parameters in the proposed technique, such as the length of the loop, were also investigated.
도시철도차량 차축의 경량화를 위한 EN 규격 기반의 차축 응력 평가

Stress analysis of urban railway axle, especially K-EMU, is discussed in this work to design lightweight hollow axle. Railway axle is one of the heaviest parts in railway car system and weight reducing of an axle should be considered in designing lightweight railway car system. EN standard, EN 13103 is referred to calculate stress of a T car axle of K-EMU and the process of stress analysis based on the EN standard is explained. It is verified that maximum stress of K-EMU axle is far below the maximum permissible strength of railway axles. The stress of a hollow axle having similar outer dimension and material with a T car axle of K-EMU is estimated and shows satisfactory result.

A noncontact thickness measurement sensor for NPP (Nuclear Power Plant) containment liner plates (CLP) is proposed in this work. Corrosion of CLP backwall has occasionally been reported in NPPs and detection of wall-thinned section is important for NPP safety. Inspection of CLP thickness is carried out using contact type ultrasonic thickness measurement and takes a lot of time. This work suggests an alternative CLP thickness measurement sensor based on electromagnetic acoustic transducer (EMAT). The proposed sensor can measure CLP thickness without physical contact or couplant and inspect wide area rapidly. The sensor is designed to produce and detect bulk shear waves in relatively thin plates like CLP. The prototype of the sensor was made and its working performance was checked on test specimens with various thickness. The test result showed that the proposed sensor could measure thickness of CLP precisely and a mobile inspection system based on the sensor can be developed.
알루미늄 압출재로 이루어진 철도차량 차체의 경량화를 위한 최적설계 방안 연구

알루미늄 재질의 도시철도차량 차체의 경량화를 위해 이중 판재구조로 이루어진 철도차량용 알루미늄 압출재의 최적설계를 수행하였다. 위상최적설계 기법을 이용하여 알루미늄 차체에서 가장 큰 중량을 차지하는 하부 프레임 베이스 플레이트의 경량화된 위상을 도출하였고, 이를 기반으로 압출재 부재별 치수 최적화를 수행하였다. 하부 프레임 다음으로 큰 중량을 차지하는 측면 프레임 압출재에 대해서는 치수 최적화를 통하여 경량설계를 수행하였다. 최적설계안과 현재 설계의 최대발생응력과 최대 변형량을 비교하여 최적설계결과의 타당성을 검증하였다. 이 과정을 통하여 언더프레임과 사이드프레임의 중량을 현재보다 평균 12% 줄일 수 있었고, 차체 전체로는 8.5%의 경량화 효과를 얻었다. In this study, we discussed the weight reducing of a urban railway-car body, in particular, of the Korean EMU, by optimizing topology and size of aluminum extrusion profiles. The heaviest parts of aluminum railway-car bodies, i.e., the base plate of underframe and side panels of side frame composed of double skin structures are considered for optimization. Topology optimization process is applied to obtain get an optimized rib structure for the base plate. The thickness of ribs and plates of the topologically optimized base plate and the existing side panel are also optimized by employing the size optimization process. The results are verified by comparing the maximum von Mises stresses and maximum deformation in the case of the existing design with those in the case of the optimized design. It is shown that the weight of a base plate and side panel can be reduced by 12% and that the weight of the whole car body can be reduced by 8.5%.
