Enhancing Korean Students' Use of English Phrasal Verbs

English phrasal verbs are difficult for non-Germanic language speakers to learn; as non-Germanic languages contain no phrasal verbs. According to Smidowicz (1997), phrasal verbs are familiar, personal, and friendly to native speakers of English, whereas they are unfamiliar, impersonal, and unfriendly to non-native speakers. The current study explored a way to help Korean participants aware of the use of phrasal verbs with the help of textual enhancement. The pretest, posttest and control group design was employed with 30 Korean students. The results show that the experimental group chose phrasal verbs more in their posttest than the control group, which may suggest the positive effect of textual enhancement. However, it is possible that there was an intervening variable involved in this research. Despite the methodological limitation, this study suggests a positive pedagogical implication for Korean EFL students' ability to learn of phrasal verbs.

This study aims at looking the roles and activities of the related parties in the legislative process of the labor Acts. To look at the above, this study mainly focused on the conditions, the structure and strategies, the results of the bargaining process of the Acts, based on the bargaining theory. Relating to the conditions, the main issues and bargaining parties have been changed during the deliberation of the acts. In relation to the structure of the bargaining, the committee members had the initiative to negotiate one another compared to the old days when the committee members tried to abide by the orders of the central party. Each party had the posture to attain its own interest as a usual in the bargaining but changed its original position based on the issues. Each party deliberated the Acts without throughly reviewing the impacts of the acts in advance. Policy implications are as follows: The committee members as the negotiating parties bargained the acts with considerable autonomy compared to the past. This means the legislature played an important role in resolving the conflict of the society through democratic procedure. In addition, the different environment and legislative structure of the deliberation process influenced the legislative members and the contents of the acts. As a result, the Acts were modified to be favorable for the labor union circles compared to the original version. The role and behaviors of the parties also could be explained through the relationship between the degree of conflict and mutual cooperation. MB정부가 출범한 지 1여년이 지난 현재 노사관계 현안문제로 비정규직법 개정문제, 복수노조 허용과 전임자 임금지급 금지 등을 들 수 있다. 이 들은 노사간, 노조간 이해관계가 첨예하게 대립되는 사안이기 때문에 이 법들을 둘러싼 개정작업이 순탄하지만은 않을 것이다. 이 글은 지난 몇 년간 국회에서 처리된 핵심 노동쟁점법안 즉 비정규직법제정법안과 주 40근로시간제를 도입하는 근로기준법 중 개정법률안을 협상론적 관점에서 분석하여 봄으로써 협상당사자라고도 할 수 있는 노동계, 경영계, 정부, 위원회 소속 위원들의 협상행태와 그들의 행동전략을 파악하여 보며 향후 입법심사에 시사점을 찾고자 한다. 시사점으로는 쟁점법안의 심사에서 국회는 종래와는 달리 노사당사자의 자율협상의 공간을 마련하였다는 점, 위원회소속의원들이 상대적으로 자율성을 가지고 협상의 당사자로서 참여하여 타협안을 마련하였다는 점, 교섭단체 구성의 변화 등 협상환경의 변화가 법률안 심사과정에 영향을 미쳤다는 점 등이다. 쟁점법안의 처리과정에서 이해관계자들 간에 높은 갈등이 상존하는 바 고협력 관계를 가져올 수 있는 협상구조를 마련하여 나감으로서 쟁점법안 처리의 정치적 합리성이 향상될 수 있을 것이다.

Textual Enhancement and Learner Preference in the Learning of English Articles

The current study investigated how learner preference would affect learning outcome in the learning of English articles through textual enhancement. Three learning types for developing English articles were presented in the survey, and comparisons were made between groups on their performance through the pretest and the posttest in the form of the grammatical judgment test. The results suggest that there were significant differences in the overuse of the and a(n) between the pretest and the posttest of some groups. Specifically, those who prefer ‘textual enhancement’ for their learning of English articles reduced their deletion ratio in the posttest more than the rest groups did. The findings suggest that textual enhancement, a kind of implicit teaching/learning method, may be beneficial for some students, but not those who prefer more explicit explanation.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of integrating Nearpod technology in face-to-face English classes, focusing on its cognitive and affective aspects. Data sources were from 46 participants who took English reading and writing classes and completed a questionnaire survey. The SPSS statistics was used for data analysis. The findings demonstrate that Nearpod is an effective tool that supports various English learning activities, particularly in writing, where it gradually builds students' confidence, provides constructive feedback, and improves their language use. Additionally, Nearpod enhances engagement, motivation, interest, and confidence in students. This study has implications for instructors seeking to enrich their students' language learning experience, as Nearpod is a versatile tool that can support diverse English language learning activities, even in face-to-face classes. The study identifies potential challenges associated with Nearpod’s implementation and suggests solutions to overcome them, offering valuable insights for educators and instructors planning to incorporate technology into their face-to-face instruction. The study concludes that Nearpod is a promising technology that can enhance student engagement and learning outcomes in English language classes.

국회의 재정에 대한 권한 중 예산심사와는 달리 결산심사는 다분히 형식적으로 이루어 지고 있고 사후적인 통제기능이 취약하다. 이러한 결산심사의 한계를 극복하고 보다 효 율적인 결산심사를 수행하기 위하여 결산심사결과에 대한 시정요구제도 등 제도를 도입 하고 있으나 이 또한 실효성을 높이는데 한계가 있다. 이러한 문제점에 입각하여 현행 결산시정요구제도에 대하여 운용실태와 문제점을 살펴보고 이에 대한 개선책을 마련하 여 보고자 하였다. 실태를 통해 파악해본 문제점으로는 시정요구사항의 작성과 분류문 제, 시정요구사항의 유형과 적용기준 문제, 동일시정요구사항의 반복적 발생문제, 시정요 구사항의 이행문제, 시정조치결과보고에 대한 논의 및 환류문제 등이 있었고, 이를 개선 하기 위한 방안으로 시정요구유형과 적용기준의 명료화, 시정요구사항에 대한 정부이행 확보, 조치결과의 적극적 환류, 지적원인별 유형화 및 시정요구유형과의 연계 등의 방법 을 제시하였다.

이 글은 국민소득 2만불 시대에 보다 나은 삶의 질에 대한 욕구가 팽창하여 또 다른 사회갈등의 하나로 분출되고 있는 이 때에, 국회가 노동복지와 관련하여 어떠한 의제를 투입하고 입법화하고 있는가를 살펴보는 것이다. 이글 제목에서의 노동복지는 노동을 통한 복지로서 그 대상이 근로자 이므로, 근로자의 근로와 복지에 관련된 위원회의 입법 활동을 중심으로 분석한다. 자료에 근거한 기술적 분석을 하며, 입법의 내용을 일정한 기준에 따라 내용 분석한다. 노동복지 정책과 관련된 입법의 영역을 8가지로 나누어 살펴보았으며, 일정한 기간에 걸쳐 노동 복지입법의 형성은 단기적으로 정책의 변화나 특정제도의 도입을 가져왔음을 알 수 있고, 보다 근 본적인 변화를 보기 위해서는 장기적 관점에서 전체적 방향과 구성원리를 조망해보야야 할 필요가 있었다. 노동복지입법의 내용중 고용과 보호법제의 입법에서 규제적 성격과 함께 여야간 커다란 견해차이로 입법의 성과가 특히 미흡하였고, 이해관계자의 의견이 서로 일치하는 구조 내지 배분 정책영역에서는 일부 입법의 진전이 있었다. 제안된 입법중 상당수가 여전히 위원회에서 상정도 되지 못하고 있어 국회의 의제설정기능과 결정력이 취약함을 알 수 있었다. 노동복지의 주요이슈 가 되는 영역에 대한 입법은 여전히 다루어지지 않고 방기되고 있음을 볼 때, 이 분야에서의 보다 진지한 입법적 검토와 노력이 대의적·숙의적 민주주의의 진전을 위하여 필요하다고 하겠다.
