        Alterations in Plasma Cytokine Levels in Korean Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder

        Purpose: Numerous studies have supported the role of the immune dysfunction in the pathogenesis of autism spectrum disor der (ASD); however, to our knowledge, no study has been conducted on plasma cytokine levels in children with ASD in South Korea. In this study, we aimed to analyze the immunological characteristics of Korean children with ASD through plasma cyto kine analysis. Materials and Methods: Blood samples were collected from 94 ASD children (mean age 7.1; 81 males and 13 females) and 48 typically developing children (TDC) (mean age 7.3; 30 males and 18 females). Plasma was isolated from 1 mL of blood by clarify ing with centrifugation at 8000 rpm at 4°C for 10 min. Cytokines in plasma were measured with LEGENDplex HU Th cytokine panel (BioLegend, 741028) and LEGENDplex HU cytokine panel 2 (BioLegend, 740102). Results: Among 25 cytokines, innate immune cytokine [interleukin (IL)-33] was significantly decreased in ASD children com pared with TDC. In acute phase proteins, tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α) was significantly increased, while IL-6, another inflam mation marker, was decreased in ASD children compared with TDC. The cytokines from T cell subsets, including interferon (IFN)-γ, IL-5, IL-13, and IL-17f, were significantly decreased in ASD children compared to TDC. IL-10, a major anti-inflammatory cytokine, and IL-9, which modulates immune cell growth and proliferation, were also significantly decreased in ASD children compared to TDC. Conclusion: We confirmed that Korean children with ASD showed altered immune function and unique cytokine expression patterns distinct from TDC.

        중국 남경의 도시브랜드 아이덴티티 활용방안을 위한 디자인 제안 연구 - 통합미디어 활용 사례 비교를 중심으로 -

        Background The city, as an integration of regions and enterprises, will be seen as another index of a country`s competence on the international arena in the 21st century. In order to establish the difference between one city and other competing cities, major cities in the world have begun to set up their city brand identity, manage it in an institutionalized way, and publicize it via media. Media integration is similar to media mix. Employing various kinds of media in promotion will much facilitate consumers` interaction. But different employment of media will result in differences in brand identity. Methods Based on different researchers` findings, we think that elements of a city brand can be divided into geographical factors, cultural and historical factors, human factors and operational factors; media integration can be generally divided into online media and offline media; and city brand identity system, on the basis the flexibility of media integration, can be divided into color flexibility, form flexibility, and image expansion and interactivity. We will do an analysis of domestic and international city brand cases according to these three characters. Result The conclusion is that Chinese domestic brand designs lack color, design system of shapes, expansion of figures, and interaction. Also, government does not put much focus on city brand, and there is not institutionalized management or promotion. For the future path of city brand identity, basic design system of city brand should be clearly regulated. Most international city brand uses letter of abstract designs; but domestically, character or concrete designs are preferred. Conclusion Based on this finding and the analysis of Nanjing through web, literature and questionnaire methods, we will show that the employment of media integration will lead to a sustainable method which differs from city brand design of other cities.

        한중 테이크아웃 차 브랜드의 전통문화 이미지 비교 분석

        Nowadays it is a period when speed and efficiency are emphasized. With the development of industrial revolution and computer sic-tech, people`s life have changed a lot. Our life is filled with high-tech products, such as cars, computers and mobile phones. The advancement of sic-tech accelerates the pace of our life. Under such environment, takeout tea is developed. The majority of Chinese have the habit of drinking tea. However, it takes a long time to drink tea because the art of preparing tea is quite complex. Due to this, people prefer to coffee shops where they can buy what they need in a short time, in comparison to tea. Tea, coffee and coco are the three major drinks in the world. China is the origin place of tea. Chinese people have a better understanding on tea culture than coffee culture. However, with the reform and open policy, people gradually like the coffee culture and the western life style, which casts a shadow on the extension of traditional Chinese tea culture. Owing to the long history of tea culture, the traditional image should be taken into consideration when it comes to constructing the tea brand. in order to activate the takeout market,we have to consider how to avoid the old traditional image, thus appealing the young people to extend the culture. Many people think that the Chinese elements are the traditional Chinese patterns. But when they are applied to the brand, we should consider many aspects, making a flexible image. based on the traditional cultural image,the essay researches on the activating of takeout tea store through analysis of chinese and south Korea brands.

        중국 진출을 위한 떡볶이 브랜드 디자인 개성의 현지화에 관한 연구 - 한중 소비자간 문화차이를 중심으로 -

        The rapid expansion of the Chinese consumer market attracts large quantities of overseas-funded enterprises to develop in China. With the friendly relationship of South-Korea and Chinese governments, varieties of preferential policies aimed at enterprises and frequent cultural communication compose the perfect environment where South-Korean enterprises can enter the Chinese market. Under such tendency, the South-Korean catering industry floods into the Chinese market, but until now there has no brand of Tokpoki. In order to demonstrate that when the brands of Tokpoki enter the Chinese market, they carry out the specific directions of differing and localize the brand, this research surveys and analyses the consumer preferences of Top-5 South-Korean brands of Tokpoki. In order to examine the brand personality, this research will classify the scale of examining the brand personalities, as well as Aaker sorting out the scale of brand personalities factors. We select three elements catering to the brand personalities of Tokpoki, which are “honest”, “active” and “capable”. We base the assumption on the theories of brand identity, brand personality and the consumer attitude. Then we will deal with the current situation of the brands of Tokpoki in South- Korea and China and analyze the importance of enterprise brand personality. We come to the conclusion that due to the cultural differences, the consumers` attitudes towards brand personality differ. In regard to Chinese aspect, following the homogeneity of culture show on logo, the attitude towards brand personality rises. We also arrive at the conclusion that the attitudes differ depending on whether the franchise chain conveys the brand personality to the consumers correctly. The Chinese differ in the personal elements of `convincing` and `original`. According to the questionnaire, the South-Korean brand of Gukdae Tokpoki has the best impression of `original`, `homeliness` and `convincing`. As a result, when the brand of Tokpoki enters the Chinese market, it needs to localize the brand personality by color, shape and character. In order to improve the attitudes towards brand personalities, they need to consider the shape according to the Chinese taste, and design the symbols of food, choosing key words. Finally, I look forward that this research can be a basic data of that a differential、unique and local brand competitive strategy even in China.

        Aberrant Neural Activation Underlying Idiom Comprehension in Korean Children with High Functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder

        Purpose: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by social communication impairmentsand repetitive behaviors or restricted interests. Impaired pragmatic language comprehension is a universal feature in individualswith ASD. However, the underlying neural basis of pragmatic language is poorly understood. In the present study, we examinedneural activation patterns associated with impaired pragmatic language comprehension in ASD, compared to typicallydeveloping children (TDC). Materials and Methods: Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) was applied to 15 children with ASD and 18 TDC usingthe Korean pragmatic language task. Results: Children with ASD were less accurate than TDC at comprehending idioms, particularly when they were required to interpretidioms with mismatched images (mismatched condition). Children with ASD also showed different patterns of neural activitythan TDC in all three conditions (neutral, matched, and mismatched). Specifically, children with ASD showed decreased activationin the right inferior frontal gyrus (IFG) (Brodmann area 47) in the mismatched condition, compared with TDC (IFG; t(31)=3.17,p<0.001). Conclusion: These results suggest that children with ASD face difficulties in comprehending pragmatic expressions and applydifferent pragmatic language processes at the neural level.

        Amyloid Precursor Protein Binding Protein-1 Is Up-regulated in Brains of Tg2576 Mice

        Amyloid precursor protein binding protein-1 (APP-BP1) binds to the carboxyl terminus of amyloid precursor protein and serves as a bipartite activation enzyme for the ubiquitin-like protein, NEDD8. Previously, it has been reported that APP-BP1 rescues the cell cycle S-M checkpoint defect in Ts41 hamster cells, that this rescue is dependent on the interaction of APP-BP1 with hUba3. The exogenous expression of APP-BP1 in neurons has been reported to cause DNA synthesis and apoptosis via a signaling pathway that is dependent on APP-BP1 binding to APP. These results suggest that APP-BP1 overexpression contributes to neurodegeneration. In the present study, we explored whether APP-BP1 expression was altered in the brains of Tg2576 mice, which is an animal model of Alzheimer’s disease. APP-BP1 was found to be up-regulated in the hippocampus and cortex of 12 month-old Tg2576 mice compared to age-matched wild-type mice. In addition, APP-BP1 knockdown by siRNA treatment reduced cullin-1 neddylation in fetal neural stem cells, suggesting that APP-BP1 plays a role in cell cycle progression in the cells. Collectively, these results suggest that increased expression of APP-BP1, which has a role in cell cycle progression in neuronal cells, contributes to the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease.

        Differences in Language Ability and Emotional-Behavioral Problems according to Symptom Severity in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder

        Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate differences in language ability and emotional-behavioral problems according to the severity of social communication impairments (SCI) and restricted and repetitive behaviors (RRB) in children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Materials and Methods: We grouped 113 children with ASD aged 3–12 years according to the severity of SCI and RRB, and investigated language differences and emotional-behavioral problems among the severity groups. If differences in language abilities between the groups were observed, they were further subdivided to examine possible predictors of both receptive and expressive language abilities. Results: In cluster analyses using subdomains of the Autism Diagnostic Interview-revised, severe SCI individuals showed lower language ability than their milder counterparts, while RRB showed no differences. Receptive and expressive language in the severe SCI group was negatively predicted by social communication and social motivation, respectively. The severe RRB group showed significantly higher levels of anxiety/distress, somatic complaints, thought problems, attention problems, and aggressive behavior, while the severe SCI group was reported to be more withdrawn. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that the severity of SCI greatly affects language ability. In children with severe SCI, social communication and social motivation negatively predicted receptive language and expressive language, respectively. Children with severe RRB may have more emotional-behavioral problems that require active intervention.
