순수 DME의 직접분사식 디젤기관의 성능 및 배기가스 특성

DME(Dimethyl ether) is an oxygenated fuel with a octane number higher than that of diesel oil. It meets the ULEV emission regulation and reduces the smoke to almost zero when used in a diesel engine. In the present study, engine performance and exhaust emissions were investigated with a conventional DI diesel engine which has a jerk type injection pump. Test results showed that the power with DME were almost same as that of pure diesel oil, and the brake thermal efficiency increased a little. Also, smoke index from DME engine showed nearly zero level, but NO$_{x}$ was increased compare to diesel oil.

Recently, in the field of electric vehicles, various modes have already been produced by vehicles industries and they will spread more and more as the regular vehicles of the environment conscious people in the future. However, They demand lots of electrical power and long operation, but current rechargeable battery cannot provide the operational durations required. Also short lifetimes of batteries impose a fundamental limitation. Due to these reasons, small linear engine and linear generator are designed with Hybrid electric vehicles in this paper. A linear generator may be coupled directly to the piston for a conversion of mechanical energy into electrical energy. Such design has many advantages such as mechanical simplicity and low friction and it can make possible a small engine having high efficiency. In other words, linear engines give power output more efficiently compared to conventional reciprocating piston engine, because it doesn't have a crank mechanism, hence there is less mechanical loss. To increase the efficiency and endurance, we made a piston and cylinder sleeve by ceramic materials.

In the realm of small electric vehicles (neighborhood electric vehicles or personal electric vehicles such as electric wheelchairs, electric scooters etc.), there's a power struggle brewing. They demand lots of electrical power and long operation, but current rechargeable battery cannot provide the operational durations required. Also short lifetimes of batteries impose a fundamental limitation. Due to these reasons, a small linear reciprocating engine and linear electric generator are designed in this paper. If an engine is used solely to produce electrical power, it is not necessary to convert the reciprocating linear motion of the piston to rotary motion by crank. Instead, a linear electrical generator may be coupled directly to the piston for a conversion of mechanical energy into electrical energy. Such a design has many advantages such as mechanical simplicity and low friction and it can make possible a small engine having high efficiency. In other words, linear engines give power output more efficiently compared to conventional reciprocating piston engine, because it doesn't have a crank mechanism, hence there is less mechanical loss.
