A great deal of development has been made in the field of railroad control in Korea. Like the recent High speed railroad (KTX) and the intercity light rail train (LRT) are being vigorously promoted. Therefore, in concert with the new railroad development projects, improved train control technics are being applied. Along with the focus on these newly developed advanced technologies the need for a reliable safety system for the safety of the passengers and railroad control personnel alike is being intensified. New safety facilities are continuously being developed in order to safely introduce and develop these new technologies. There is an urgent need for research and development of safety facilities for the implementation of the presently developed facilities as well as for the presently being used. Therefore, this research will study the safe operation of Korean railroad and the implementation situation of the class, functionality, ensured safety range etc. of the safety facilities for users and operators. In studying the material of the kinds of implemented safety facilities and technologies being used abroad we have researched into the most suitable direction of development of safety facilities for the Korean railroad environment.

Passenger safety is a primary concern of the railway system. However, dozens of people are killed every year when they accidently fall on to the track from the boarding platform. This is one of the most urgent issues to solve regarding the railway platform. The installation environment, and the blind area problems as well as maintenance and operating costs which are not efficient have to be looked at. To solve these problems, we propose a 3D laser radar sensor based monitoring system for the railway platform. This paper introduces an overview, the detecting method, and the interface with the signalling system in detecting a fallen passenger from the platform using the 3D laser radar sensor.

As a result of that the domestic railway technology has been progressed as times go by, the 1st and the 2nd steps for Gyeongbu HSR at the speed of more than 300㎞/h, were completed and Honam HSR - its operational speed is 350㎞/h - is under construction. Additionally, As a part of the expressization project for general lines, the Seoul-Chuncheon route at the speed of more than 180[㎞/h] is under construction and the Jeolla route is under design. At present, 11 countries (e.g. France, Germany, Belgium, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, England, Japan, China and Taiwan) including Korea have high speed railways operated at the speed of more than 300[㎞/h]. As shown in the above, the domestic railway has high speed trains as good as those of countries outside Korea, but the schedule speed, which is calculated by dividing distance to destination by time, is lower than that of overseas trains. For overseas railway, the ratio of schedule speed to the highest speed is above 65%, while that of domestic railways is over 50%. It shows a significant difference between them. It is expected that the schedule speed improvement will increase the number of train operation and line capacities than now, so it shall achieve smooth transportation flow and improve the passengers’ satisfaction. In this paper we describe the necessity for the improvement of schedule speed, by analyzing foreign cases related to the improvement of schedule speed in order to satisfy the increasing traffic demand.
연구는 열차 검지시스템을 개발하는 연구를 수행함에 있어 시스템의 안전요구사항을 높이기 위한 RAMS(Reliability, Availability, Maintaninability and Safety)활동의 초기단계부터 폐기에 이르는 절차에 대해 설명하고 각 단계의 업무내용 및 절차 그리고 안전성 평가를 위한 각 기관의 역할에 대해 고찰하는데 있다. 하이브리드 궤도회로(Hybrid Track Circuit; HTC) 개발 연구의 목적은 열차제어를 위한 지상의 정보를 차상에 송수신 하기 위하여 특정한 주파수 대역에 응동하는 RFID(Radio Frequency Identification)기능이 내장된 각종 트랜스폰더의 기본 기능을 바탕으로 좀 더 단순하고 소형화된 제품을 개발을 통하여 혁신적인 비용절감을 목적으로 진행되고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 지상장치 RFID용 태그(Tag)와 차상에 설치된 차상안테나를 설치함에 있어 인식률이 높은 차상안테나의 개발은 물론 구조형태가 각기 다른 열차들의 특성을 고려하여 열차의 공통표준이 되는 취부대를 개발하여 조립설치가 간단하고 테스트가 용이한 구조의 취부대 개발과 충격 및 진동과 같은 외부환경으로부터 견디어내고 완벽한 기능을 확보할 수 있는 실험용 취부대 설치방안을 제시하고자 한다.
