현대 한국 대중문화에 관한 교육자료 : 현황, 분석, 개발

The purpose of this article is to examine the present state of educationalmaterials on contemporary Korean popular culture and to suggest methods fordeveloping textbooks. There have been only a few textbooks on Korean studieswritten in English, and no comprehensive book about contemporary Koreanpopular culture. Popular culture rapidly changes with the times. So in order todevelop English textbooks on contemporary Korean popular culture, it will beefficient to write a textbook by selecting and introducing some representativepieces of the mainstream popular culture of each period. For example, anintroduction of popular culture with periodic subdivisions of the golden age ofKorean movies after liberation, the people's culture and movement(1980s-1990s), the World Cup held in Korea and the globalization of Koreanculture (after the millenium) will give an idea of the social roles and functionsof Korean popular culture. Also, it is important to start by compiling anintroductory textbook, considering that the reader of the English textbook mayhave no foundation on Korean studies. 이 글의 목적은 현대 한국 대중문화에 관한 교육자료의 현황을 제시하고 교재개발 방법을 제시하는 데 있다. 현재 영어로 쓰여진 한국학 교재는 많지 않으며 현대 한국 대중문화를 포괄적으로 다룬 책도 거의 없다. 대중문화는시대와 함께 급변하므로 현대 한국 대중문화 영문교재를 개발하기 위해서는 시대를 상징하는 주요 대중문화의 단편들을 선별하여 소개하는 교재를 저술하는것이 효과적이라 생각한다. 예컨대 해방 후 한국영화 황금기, 민중문화와 민중운동(1980~1990년대), 한국월드컵과 한국문화의 세계화(2000년대 이후)로 나누어 대중문화를 소개하면 한국 대중문화의 사회적 역할과 기능을 생각해 볼 수있을 것이다. 또한 영문교재의 이용자가 한국학에 대한 기초가 없을 수도 있음을 충분히 고려하여 읽기 쉬운 입문 교재 편찬부터 시작하는 것이 중요하다.
