Hotel General Managers’ Strategic Management Process in Korea and Japan

This study assessed differences in the strategic decision-making processes of hotel general managers in Korea and Japan. This study hypothesized that certain organizational functions are regarded as having greater strategic importance than others. This study also hypothesized that perceptions toward organization classification by characters of their own property and competitors varies across countries. Results show general managers in both countries, Korea and Japan, believe that operation departments have the most influence in their respective businesses. In terms of resource allocation, marketing subunits receive additional resources in Korea, and sales subunits receive additional budgets in Japan. Once additional capital is available, Korean general managers use the capital in foreign markets, and Japanese general managers use the capital in the domestic market. The general managers in Korea classified themselves and their competitors as prospectors. On the other hand, more than half of the hotel general managers in Japan considered themselves to be analyzers and characterized their competitors as prospectors.

N/A A computer simulation of mold filling has been performed in order to analyze the fluid flow pattern in a mold cavity since casting defects such as cold shut formation, entrapment of air or gas, and inclusions are closely related to the fluid flow phenomena. The flow of molten metal entering the mold cavity with free surface has been modeled by SMAC(Simplified Marker and Cell) method. Two dimensional analysis was carried out on plate shape castings with two types of gate system. The calculation results were compared with those of water modeling experiments and showed relatively good agreement.

Two dimensional computer simulation of solidification behavior using FDM as simulation tool was applied to AI-bronze casting. By the comparison of computer simulation with the experimental results, it was showed that the final shrinkage position and solidification time are good accordance with results of computer simulation. It is expected that this software will be widely applied to casting design or rise ring for directional solidification.
국내 주요 항구도시의 선박 배기가스 배출량 산정 및 사회적 비용 추정

본 연구는 국내 항구도시 인천, 목포, 광양, 부산, 울산의 대기오염물질 배출특성, 대형선박 배기가스 배출량 및 사회적 비 용을 산정하여 배출가스 저감방안의 필요성을 제시하였다. 부산은 선박 입항수가 많고 목포는 선박 입항수는 적지만 선박 배기가스에 의한 배출기여도는 두 항구도시 모두 높았다. 울산은 세계적 수준의 중화학공업, 광양은 제철소, 인천은 제조업과 선박 입항수가 목포 보다 많았지만 배출기여도는 낮았다. 선박 배기가스 배출량 산정 결과, CO2의 배출량이 가장 많고 다음으로는 NOx, SOx으로 배출량이 많았다. 선종별로는 부산, 울산, 인천은 유조선, 광양은 일반화물선, 목포는 여객선에서 각각 많았다. 사회적 비용 결과, 부산은 배출량 이 많은 영향으로 사회적 비용이 높았으며, 항목별로는 PM이 높았다. 저황유 사용으로 PM, SOx 배출량을 직접적으로 줄이고, NOx의 배출량을 간접적으로 줄 일수 있다. 하지만 선박 배기가스 중 가장 많은 배출량을 보인 CO2를 저감하기 위해서는 저황유의 보급만으 로는 부족하다. CO2 배출량 감축을 위해서는 육상전원공급장치(Alternative Maritime Power)를 사용하는 등 화석연료를 사용하지 않는 저 감방안 수립의 필요성을 제기하였다. Atmospheric pollutant emissions, mainly exhaust gas emissions from vessels, and the resultant social costs of pollution in the Korean harbor cities of Incheon, Mokpo, Gwangyang, Busan and Ulsan, are examined in this study, and the need for an emissions reduction plan is highlighted. Busan had several vessels entering its port, while Mokpo had few vessels, yet the vessels emission contribution was high in both the cities. Ulsan had world-class heavy-chemical industries, Gwangyang had steel mills and Incheon had a manufacturing industry and more vessels entering its port than Mokpo, yet the emission contribution was low in these cities. By calculating exhaust gas emissions from the vessels, it was found that CO2 was the highest, followed by NOx and SOx. By vessel type, Busan, Ulsan, and Incheon had more oil tank vessels, Gwangyang had more cargo vessels, and Mokpo had more ferries. As a result of social cost, Busan paid the highest, while the highest emission was PM. The use of low-sulfur oil can directly reduce PM and, SOx emissions and indirectly reduce NOx emissions. However, in order to reduce high CO2 emissions, only low-sulfur oil will not help. Therefore, the study suggested the need for reduction plan that use of fossil fuels, by using alternative maritime power (AMP).
