        From March 1991 to December 1994, 243 burn patients under the age of fifteen visit to Kon-Kuk university medical college Hospital. Among of them, 75 burn sites were hand. In these pediatric hand burn patients, retrospective study was done for the review of following issues : ago and sex distribution, cause of burn, hourly distribution of accident, depth of burn and method of treatment. The summary of results were as follows: 1) Pediatric hand burn was 30.86% of all visited burn patients under 15 years old. 2) The most common cause of burns was scalding burn as 44 cases(58.66%), followed by contact burn as 12 cases(16.00%) and steam burn 12 cases(16.00%), electrical burn as 4 cases(5.33%) and flame burn as 3 cases(4.00%). 3) The most prevalent age group was under 1 year old 25 cases(33.33%). 4) The most common injured time range was between 4 p.m. and 8p.m. 29 cases(38.66%). 5) The depth distribution was as follows: 2nd degree 60 cases(80.00%), 3rd degree 11 cases(14.66%), 1st degree 3 cases(4.0%) and 4th and degree 1 case(1.33%). 6) The method of treatment was as follow distribution: conservative treatment 73 cases(96%) and operative treatment 3 cases(4%) and admission was 18 cases(14.00%). 7) The 2 cases(2.66%) (were complicated as scar contracture with syndactyly in one case.

        Solid-state Pulse Modulator for a 1.7-MW X-band Magnetron

        Medical linear accelerators (LINAC) for cancer treatment require pulse modulators to generatehigh-power pulses with a fast rise time, flat top and short duration to drive high-power magnetrons. Solid-state pulse modulators (SSPM) for medical LINACs that use high power semiconductorswitches with high repetition rates, high stability and long lifetimes have been introduced toreplace conventional linear-type pulse generators that use gaseous discharge switches. In this paper,the performance of a developed SSPM, which mainly consists of a capacitor charger, an insulatedgatebipolar transistor (IGBT) - capacitor stack and a pulse transformer, is evaluated with a dummyload and an X-band magnetron load. A theoretical analysis of the pulse transformer, which is acritical element of the SSPM, is carried out. The output pulse has a fast rise time and low droop,such that the modulator can drive the X-band magnetron.

        피콜라는 듀 보이스가 말하는 백인성과 흑인성의 융합이라는 삶의 싸움에서 패배하고 자신의 분열된 세계에서 상상의 친구와의 대화로 함몰되는 광기로 끝난다. 반면에 클로디아의 분열은 어느 한 쪽을 선택하고 다른 쪽으로 무화시키는 데서 생기는 정신적인 분열이 아니라 목소리의 분열이다. 그녀는 이러한 분열을 강제적으로 융합하거나 통합시키지 않으며 오히려 분열을 수용하는 태도를 취한다. 자신의 문화와 목소리가 이중적이라는 것을 인식한 클로디아는 모리슨처럼 그 분열의 간극을 수용하며 단지 서사적으로만 그 분열된 조각을 이을 뿐이다. 이중의식을 하나의 목소리로 통합하려는 해결보다는 두 목소리를 동시에 인정하는 것이 분열을 극복하는 방법이 될 수 있다. 다시 말해서 피콜라의 분열은 양자 택일적 우월의 대립구조에서 만들어진 분열의 이중의식이며, 클로디아의 분열은 두 문화의 공존을 인정하는 양자공존의 창조적 이중의식이다. 아프리카계 미국인들의 이중의식이 어느 하나의 비전으로 통합될 수 없다는 것을 인식하는 것이 바로 생존의 전략이다.

        Evaluation of the Clinical Performance by Using the Effective DQE for a Prototype Digital Breast Tomosynthesis System

        Early experience with the application of tomosynthesis to breast imaging has shown the potential of digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT), which can improve the specificity of mammography with improved marginal visibility of the lesion and early breast cancer detection, especially for women with dense breasts. The purpose of this study is to characterize the physical properties of the DBT system and to optimize the exposure conditions by using the modulation transfer function (MTF), the noise power spectrum (NPS), the scatter fraction, the transmission fraction and the effective detective quantum efficiency (eDQE) for different breast thicknesses. The first-generation KERI prototype digital tomosynthesis system for breast imaging using a CMOS flat panel detector was used in this study. The spatial frequency depend on metrics depend on both the inherent properties of the detector and the imaging geometry including breast thickness. For a thicker breast, the eDQE decreases as the scatter fraction increases at a fixed tube voltage. Moreover, the MTF shows no significant difference with changing tube voltage while the eDQE at 27 kVp is slightly degraded. Consequently, the above critical properties of the DBT system for different exposure conditions and breast thicknesses should be fully considered before building the system and using it application in clinical applications.

      • PSd-150 (3-cyclohexyl-methyl-amino-6-methyl-7-anilino-fluoran) 염료의 열 변색 현상에 관한 연구

        The thermochromism of PSD-150has been examined. The PSD-150 exists as a colorless lactone in aprotic solvents. However, the PSD-150 exists as the form of an equilibrium mixture of a colored zwitter-ion and a colorless lactone in protic solvents. When an acid is added to the solution, the PSD-150 exists as an equilibrium mixture a colorless lactone and a colored cation even in aprotic solvents. In order to understand the interaction between the PSD-150 and the solvent, absorption spectra of the PSD-150 in various solvents were measured. The systematic increase of the λ_(max) of the PSD-150 correlates with the hydrogen-bond donor ability of the solvent in neutral solution. The thermodynamic parameters of the PSD-150 have also been investigated. From the variation of absorbance with temperature, the standard enthalpy changes ΔH^0 of the equilibrium between the lactone and the zwitter-ion in various solvents have been determined. The standard enthalpy change ΔH^0 is approximately -7 kJ/㏖ in protic solvents. In acidic solution, the standard enthalpy change is measured to be to zero in protic solvents within the experimental error. When the carboxylic group is protonated in acidic solution, a poor interaction between the dye and the solvent is expected.

        The livestocks are sometimes infected with pathogenic microorganisms such as bird influenza, brucellosis, pig cholerae, and salmonella. However, it is difficult to predict the outcome of these diseases because the livestocks are mostly raised in the rural areas. Efficient systems for detecting and alerting the onset of livestock diseases are urgently required. In these studies, the fluorescent analysis method, luminescent analysis method, and frequently used gene amplification method (polymerase chain reaction) have been developed in order to detect the pathogenic microbes in the early stages of disease progression. By using these developed systems, damages due to the livestock diseases induced by microbes can be minimized. If we can detect livestock diseases in the early stage, the costs for diagnosis and treatment will be reduced, and the livestock can be quickly recovered.

        Characterization of Prototype Full-field Breast Tomosynthesis by Using a CMOS Array Coupled with a Columnar CsI(Tl) Scintillator

        We have developed a prototype full-field digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) system by using a complementary-metal-oxide semiconductive (CMOS) array coupled with a columnar CsI(Tl) scintillator. The imaging system consists of a matrix with an active detector area of 3072 × 3888 pixels and a pixel pitch of 74.8 μm. For tomosynthesis imaging, the X-ray tube is automatically rotated in 3 increments in the shoot mode to acquire projection images at 15 different angles over a ±21angular range in less than 10 s. The digital detector is stationary during image acquisition. In this research, we also carried out evaluation studies to characterize the performance of the system in different operational modes designed for the DBT system, e.g., binning mode and the range of view angles, in terms of the modulation transfer function (MTF), the normalized noise power spectra (NNPS), and the detective quantum efficiency (DQE): The MTF value measured at the Nyquist frequency was 18.49%, the NNPS value at zero frequency was about 1.93 × 10−5 (mm2), and the maximum value of DQE was about 47.09% for the full resolution. For the pixel binning mode, the MTF decreased more than it did for the full resolution mode due to the increased effective pixel size. However, the full resolution mode was more sensitive to noise than the pixel binning mode. For the scan angle of the DBT system, oblique incidence of X-rays on a detector caused blurring that reduced resolution. These results seem to be promising for the use of the DBT system in potential clinical applications and will provide important information when comparisons with other DBT systems are made.         토니 모리슨 소설에 나타난 '이중의식' : 분열에서 공존으로 --

        This paper aims to read Toni Morrison's novels in terms of 'double-consciousness' defined by W.E.B. Du Bois in The Souls of Black Folk, taking The Bluest Eye, Sula, and Beloved as examples. Her novels develop from fragmentation of double-consciousness toward double voicedness or double vision shaped by transforming it creatively. The Bluest Eye examines splitness of characters when they intemalize white western values without any criticism to achieve viable identity. In Sula Morrison focuses more closely on ways of coping with the problems of creating and maintaining a viable identity in black community. Sula rejects all traditional social standards and tries to insist her own voice. But she is destined to be isolated even into death because the community's norms are crucial to her survival and development. Beloved differs from The Bluest Eye and Sula in that the emphasis shifts from external factors creating fragmentation toward internal healing processes that allow for psychic integration. The narrative through re-memory enables Sethe to recover fragmented self and bridge the gap between past and present. Morrison's novels articulate both the African American perspective that privileges double consciousness and the postmodern perspective in which traditional western insistence on unity must be replaced by multiplicity and dialogue. Working between, and within the terms of such traditional dichotomies as black/white, presence/absence, self/other, and past/present, she devises a new form of world view that is no longer based on homogeneity, but is founded on coexistence in difference. Morrison expands the limits of human consciousness beyond either-or mentality and presents double vision as strategy for survival of black in white America.

        Recently, the construction of gas insulated substation(GIS)s has been increased in Korea. But, the whole quantity of the VTs which were used in GIS has been imported. Under the circumstance that $SF_6$ gas power apparatus are being developed up to 800kV rating in Korea, the development of EHV $SF_6$ gas VT is essential for localizing the power apparatus. As for EHV VT, destructive ferroresonance can be generated due to the combination of capacitiances between poles of circuit breaker, ground capacitance of bus and nonlinear excitation property of VT core. But the theoretical analysis about ferroresonance has not been fully achieved in Korea. Therefore, in this paper the authors would like to contribute for localizing EHV $SF_6$ gas VT by developing the diagram of ferroresonance zone according to the parameters of the circuit and the saturable reactor.
