        PBL기반의 치과의료커뮤니케이션 교육과정을 통한 일부 치위생학과 학생들의 치위생 의사소통 역량수준 평가에 대한 사례연구

        Background: The purpose of the present study was to evaluate changes in the communication capabilities of dental hygiene students after completing a problem based learning (PBL) dental communication curriculum. With this information, we intend to gather the basic data necessary to stress the need for and value of an education in communication regarding dental hygiene. Methods: PBL-based education was provided to a total of 49 third-year dental hygiene students who took the dental communication class taught by the Department of Dental Hygiene at S University during the 2<sup>nd</sup> semester of 2020. The relevant self-evaluation was modified, based on the aim of the present study, to refer to three basic key competencies related to the communication capabilities of dental hygienists. An assessment of dental communication competency was conducted by analyzing the changes in self-evaluations before and after completing the course, for each question, using a paired t-test. The statistical significance level was set at p < 0.05. Results: Analysis of core competencies before and after PBL-based dental communication education indicated that all competencies were significantly improved after education (p < 0.01). Conclusion: Dental hygiene students' dental communication skills increased significantly after completing PBL-based dental communication education. Therefore, a PBL-based dental communication curriculum is effective in improving dental communication skills for dental hygiene students.

        일부 치과위생사의 대학졸업연한 차이에 따른 희망진로와 현 근무처와의 일치도 및 직업 만족도 조사

        Objectives : Five years have passed since the departments of dental hygiene with four-year term released their graduates. It is necessary to investigate concordance between desired career and current job and job satisfaction in dental hygienists according to graduation term. Accordingly, a survey on concordance between desired career and current job and job satisfaction in dental hygienists according to graduation term was conducted to obtain a basis necessary for providing right job consciousness to students of departments of dental hygiene. Methods : Of departments of dental hygiene nationwide, a total of four departments consisting of two departments with 3-year term and two departments with 4-year term were randomly selected. Of 683 graduates for 2006-10 of the selected departments, 163 graduates who agreed to participate in this study through telephone and e-mail were chosen as subjects. The data of 159 graduates were analyzed except for 4 graduates who did not respond to job satisfaction. The questionnaire consisted of a total of 17 questions: 5 general questions such as graduation term, and current job and salary, 2 questions for desired career at the time of entrance and graduation, and 10 questions for the satisfaction of current job and working environments. Concordance between the desired career at the time of entrance and graduation and current job was calculated using Kappa-value. A cross analysis was conducted to investigate job satisfaction according to general features and graduation term. A statistical significance was examined using $X^2$-test (p<0.05). Results : The Kappa-value for concordance between the desired career at the time of graduation and the current job was 0.288, showing slightly low concordance. In particular, the Kappa-value was 0.089 in the graduates of departments of dental hygiene with 3-year term, which showed significantly low concordance. The job satisfaction of the graduates was 49.1%, which was higher in the graduates with 4-year term than in the graduates with 3-year term, but was statistically insignificant (p>0.05). The detailed job satisfaction was all higher in the graduates with 4-year term than in the graduates with 3-year term except for distance to a working place, but a statistical significance was only found in working place recognition and regional status (p<0.05 ). Conclusions : This study showed differences in concordance between desired career and current job and job satisfaction between the graduates of departments of dental hygiene with 3-year term and the graduates of departments of dental hygiene with 4-year term. Therefore, the curriculum of department of dental hygiene is required to be more specifically applied in accordance with graduation term. In addition, a further study is required to develop specialized curriculums in accordance with graduation term.

        Awareness and Necessity of Registered Dentist Program for Children and Adolescents

        Background: The program aims to enable the participants to receive oral health care with sustainability and give them the choice and prior autonomy of dental practitioners while enhancing the benefits of sustainability. The purpose of this study is to investigate the necessity, awareness, and satisfaction of the implementation of the registered dentist program for children and adolescents, and to promote the introduction of RDPCA. Methods: The survey targeted adult residents in their 20s or older who live in Seoul, an area that continuously implements the RDPCA system, especially in the cities of Cheonan and Asan Results: 79.7% were the most unaware. However, RDPCA participants were significantly more aware than non-participants. When surveying the desire to participate in RDPCA, 96.6% of the respondents said they would 'participate' in the non-RDPCA participate group. The analysis of the satisfaction level of the RDPCA received by their children indicated that 48.6% expressed their satisfaction, and 47.3% said they were healthy. There was a high percentage of people who said they would recommend RDPCA to others as well as a high rate of those who said they would continue to use RDPCA. Conclusions: The reality is that the awareness and implementation of RDPCA are low. For the development of oral health care programs for all children and adolescents in Korea, and the improvement of the satisfaction level of the dental care system, there should be an active consideration of high-quality programs and.

        일개 보건계열 및 비보건계열 학생들의 인성교육에 대한 필요성 및 인식도 조사

        본 연구에서는 일개 대학교에 재학 중인 비보건학과와 보건학과계열의 대학생들을 대상으로 인성교육에 대한 인식과 요구도를 조사, 분석하여 보다 발전적인 인성교육의 과정을 개발하는데 기초자료를 마련하고 인성교육을 위한 제도적인 장치 설계에 필요한 유용한 기초정보를 제공하고자 수행하였다. 본 연구는 2018년 4월부터 5월까지 비보건계열과 보건계열학과에 재학하는 학생들을 대상으로 진행하였다. 설문에 참여한 학생은 총 206명으로, 비보건계열, 보건계열 학과 학생 모두 인성교육의 필요성, 중요성, 학습을 통한 인성발달 가능성 등의 항목에서 모두 높게 인식하는 것으로 나타났다. 인성역량에 따른 자기이해 수준에서는 모든 학과 학생들이 평균적으로 높게 나타났고, 특히 ‘배려’와 ‘책임’항목에서 높은 수준을 보였다. 자기효능감 인식 차이에서는 ‘의지’에서 가장 낮은 인식수준을 보였다. 인성수준에 관한 응답에서는 모든 학생에서 본인들의 인성이 ‘높다’ (42.1%)라고 응답을 하였으며, 현재 재학 중인 학교에서의 인성교육과정은 비보건계열과 보건계열 모두 ‘만족하지 않다’고 나타났다. 결과적으로 보건학과 계열에 재학 중인 학생들이 전체적으로 비보건계열 학생들보다는 높은 결과가 있었지만, 유의한 차이가 많지는 않았다. 이를 위해 학과에 구분 없이 대학생들에게 인성에 관한 전문성을 함양하도록 그 여건을 마련해 주고, 동시에 사회가 요구하는 인성을 갖춘 인재로 성장할 수 있도록 대학에서 체계적인 교육이 이루어져야 할 것이며, 학생들의 인성교육의 요구를 정확하게 파악하고 실천을 위한 구체적인 방안을 마련해야 한다고 본다. The purpose of this study was to obtain the basic data for developing more advanced courses on character education by surveying and analyzing the perception and demands of character education of university students and further, to provide useful information for creating institutional protocol on character education. The study was conducted from April 2018 to May 2018 on students attending the departments of non-health science and health science university students. A total of 206 students participated in this study, and all the students in the non-health science and health science departments were found to be highly aware of the need for character education, its importance and the possibility of personality development through learning. Students from all the departments showed high levels on average in terms of self-understanding according to their personality abilities, and especially their high levels of "consideration" and "responsibility". For the differences in perception of self-efficacy, the lowest level of recognition was for "will" and the average values were not high. In their response to personality level, all students answered that their personality was "high" (42.1%), and that the personality education courses at the schools they are currently attending were "not satisfied" with both the non-health science and health science students. As a result, there were higher results overall for the health science students than that for the non-health science students, but there were not many significant differences. To this end, education institutes will have to prepare conditions for university students to cultivate their expertise in character, while at the same time helping them grow into human beings with the qualities demanded by society. In addition, the government should establish curriculums and content by accurately identifying the needs of character education and devising concrete measures for their implementation, and by more faithfully considering quantitative and qualitative context types for the content base of character education.

        일부 치위생학과 학생의 팀 기반 학습 횟수에 따른 임상치위생학 핵심 역량 인식변화에 관한 연구

        Objectives: The purpose of this study is to measure the difference in the effect of team-based learning according to the number of sessions on the topic attended by dental hygiene students. Methods: Since the mutual influence on the number of sessions attended before and after team-based learning could not be excluded, the Friedman two-way ANOVA—a nonparametric analysis corresponding to repeated measures ANOVA—was performed. Furthermore, the Bonferroni correction was applied for post hoc testing, with the statistical significance level being p < 0.05. Results: A statistically significant difference was identified in terms of the perception of clinical dental hygiene core competency after the 2nd session (p < 0.001) of the team-based learning module. In addition, the students preferred a maximum of three sessions of team-based learning. Conclusions: Drawing on the results of this study, it is recommended that the teaching design for a team-based learning module should consist of at least two sessions

        한국 성인의 설탕세와 구강건강 인식의 연관성에 관한 연구

        Objectives: Sugar consumption continues to increase worldwide, and excessive sugar intake negatively affects both oral and systemic health. Many countries are attempting to reduce these adverse effects by imposing sugar taxes on products containing sugar. Korea is also trying to reduce sugar consumption, but does not currently have a sugar tax. The aim of this study was to investigate and to provide basic data on the association between sugar taxes and oral health awareness in Korea. Methods: Korean adults were surveyed to determine the relationship between their perception regarding introduction of a sugar tax and their perception of oral health and the association between their oral health knowledge and behavior, as well as to establish the subjects knowledge of sugar taxes. Results: Subjects with a high interest in oral health also had a high interest in sugar taxes and a positive perception regarding the introduction of a sugar tax. Most of the study subjects, regardless of age or academic background, were unaware of sugar taxes and had not received education or information about sugar taxes. Therefore, press releases on sugar taxes and active publicity are needed to promote public interest in this area. Conclusions: People s awareness of sugar taxes should be increased, and campaigns should be actively implemented to reduce sugar consumption. In addition, since no national measures are currently in place regarding the introduction of a sugar tax, efforts will be needed to regulate market activities in the food industry and to regulate the price of sugar-rich products nationwide to reduce sugar consumption in Korea.

        일부 치위생학과 학생의 팀 기반 학습의 임상치위생학 학습자 성찰일지 질적 분석

        Objectives: The purpose of this study was to qualitatively analyze the reflective journals to evaluate the effectiveness of team-based learning (TBL) method in clinical hygiene subjects. Methods: This study was conducted by analyzing the reflective journal according to the qualitative research methodology based on ground theory. Results: The students’ overall comprehension was 4.46±0.78, which was a very high level of understanding. Students’ Reflective Journals promoted the effectiveness of TBL activities and improved learners desire, learning motivation, comprehension, and responsibility. Conclusions: Through qualitative analysis of the contents of the reflection journal in team-based activities, a paradigm could be derived and the educational implications of writing a reflection journal could be confirmed.         회전법과 바스법의 잇솔질 수행요소별 적절성과 난이도인식 및 치면세균막지수의 연관성

        Objective: The objective of this study was to determine the correlation among adequacy of toothbrushing factors, awareness of difficulty in toothbrushing and the plaque score for improving the method of toothbrushing instructions. Method: One hundred twenty-seven subjects were divided into rolling and Bass` method group. Subjects were advised to brush their teeth everyday under a guided instruction instructed 3 times during 4 weeks of research. The plaque score was measured by Turesky`s index. The evaluation criteria the adequacy of toothbrushing factors were categorized as toothbrush grasps, stroke action, stroke frequency, and dividing dental arch. Awareness of the subjective degree of difficulty in toothbrushing was measured by a questionnaire with a 5-point Likert scale. (very easy to very difficult). Results: There was no significant relationship between the awareness of the subjective degree of difficulty in toothbrushing and the plaque score. Also, there was no significant relationship between the awareness of toothbrushing difficulty and the adequacy of toothbrushing factors. Repeated instructions were more important than awareness of difficulty or adequacy of toothbrushing factors on reducing the plaque score. The priority setting of toothbrushing factors with a given opportunity and circumstance of instruction is needed to enhance the effect of TBI. Conclusion: It is strongly believed that more detailed research on the role of toothbrushing education and on which educational factors are of importance regarding dental plaque care are taken into further consideration.

        미국 폰즈스쿨의 임상치위생학 교육과정 분석을 통한 국내 임상치위생학 교육과정에 관한 고찰

        본 연구에서는 국제적인 치위생계의 임상실무와 교육의 표준인 치위생 관리 과정을 기반으로 표준화된 치위생 교육기관인 미국 폰즈스쿨의 임상치위생학 교육과정에 대해 심층분석 함으로써 국내 실정에 맞는 임상치위생학 교육과정의 표준화 방안에 대해 고찰해 보고자 하였다. 2015∼2016년 폰즈스쿨의 임상치위생학은 모두 `Dental Hygiene Clinical Practice (DHYG)`라는 과목명으로 운영되었고, 실습의 비중이 매우 컸으며, 실습강의는 교수 1명당 학생 5명이 한 팀으로 운영되었다. 폰즈스쿨의 학과 목표는 브릿지포트 대학교의 미션에 따라 설정되었고, 폰즈스쿨의 임상치위생학 교육목표 또한 폰즈스쿨의 학과 목표에 기반하여 설정되었다. 또한, 임상치위생학의 교육목표는 ADHA에서 제시한 치위생임상 실무표준에 따라 개발되었고, 이를 기반으로 임상치위생학 교육을 통해 달성해야 하는 임상 핵심역량과 세부역량을 제시하고 있었다. 임상치위생학 교육내용은 다양한 대상자에게 적절한 치위생 관리 과정을 제공하기 위한 이론 및 실습으로 구성되었고, 특히, 졸업 후 실제 임상 현장에서 수행하게 될 업무에 대한 실습내용이 다뤄졌다. 학생은 대상자/환자별로 수행한 술식에 문서를 작성하여 교수자와 함께 검토 및 보완작업을 통해 치위생 임상역량을 높이고자 하였다. 실습내용 중 치위생 관리 과정 실습은 필수적으로 어린이, 청소년, 성인, 노인, 특별환자를 대상으로 선정해야하며, 구강 상태에 따라 중등도 이상의 치주환자를 포함해야 했다. 이론평가는 지필고사 혹은 사례연구 발표 등으로 이루어졌고, 실습평가는 주로 임상역량의 달성 정도에 따라 평가되었다. 특히 교수자의 로테이션 평가를 실시하였는데, 이를 통해 모든 학생의 임상역량 달성 정도를 파악하고 부족한 역량에 대해 개선방안을 함께 모색하는 과정을 수행하였다. 본 연구는 ADHA에서 제시하는 치위생임상 실무표준에 따라 운영되고 있는 표준화된 임상치위생학 교육과정을 심층적으로 분석함으로써 향후 우리나라 임상치위생학의 개선방향을 모색하기 위한 기초 자료로 제시될 수 있을것이라 판단되었다. The aim of this study was to analyze in depth the standardized Clinical dental hygiene curriculum of the Fones School in the United States. We investigated the clinical dental hygiene curriculum in 2015∼2016 including title, credit, hours, contents, goals, competencies, and evaluation. We obtained the course syllabus and data related to each subject, for each grade, from the professors and students at the university. The goals and competencies, of the clinical dental hygiene program, which were based on the goals of the Fones School and the mission of the University of Bridgeport, were developed in accordance with the dental hygienist practice standards proposed by the American Dental Hygienists Association. The curriculum consisted of theory to teach proper dental hygiene care procedures and incorporated practical exercises that modeled an actual clinical setting. The students had to document the procedures performed for each client/patient and improve their clinical competency through discussion with the professors. Dental hygiene care should be provided for children, adolescents, adults, elderly, and patients, which includes patients with moderate or severe periodontal status. Students were evaluated by a paper test or case study presentation and their clinical evaluation was based on their clinical competency. In particular, professors evaluated students on a rotational basis, so they could evaluate the level of achievement of clinical competency of all students and find ways to improve any weaknesses. Therefore, the current study suggested that clinical dental hygiene program in Korea could be improved if based on the curriculum of Fones School in the United States.

        치위생과정의 치과임상 적용 증례보고 : 일부 치과 사례를 중심으로

        Objectives: Periodontal management in the dental hygiene process is not fully completed by one-time scaling, but can be effectively managed by personalized management and continuous management program that induce individual behavior change based on periodontal disease risk analysis and repetitive education. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the use of a dental clinic for applying and evaluating the dental hygiene process based on continuous management program. Methods: This study was conducted on patients with periodontal disease who visited the dental clinic in S city from April to August 2016. We selected two final patients who agreed to the purpose and method of the study. In this study, one dentist and two dental hygienists with over 5 years of clinical experience were selected to perform the dental hygiene process. Kappa values between the dentist and two dental hygienists were 0.8 and 0.9. We performed the dental hygiene process based on assessment, judgement, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the dental hygiene process. The trained investigators took intra-oral photo, panoramic and periapical radiographs for objective assessment of the subject s periodontal condition. They measured pocket depth, bleeding upon probing (BOP), pain and edema. They also measured pocket depth, bleeding upon probing (BOP), pain and edema. A 5-point scale and open questionnaire were used to confirm subjective oral health perceptions, attitudes, and satisfaction of the subjects after the program. The final evaluation items in this study were subjective periodontal health status, subjective oral health perception, attitude, and satisfaction with the program before and after the program. Results: After the study, the periodontal pocket depth was decreased in both subjects. Moderate periodontal pockets greater than 4 mm showed reduction of 30% and 83%. Severe periodontal pockets larger than 6 mm had a reduction of 36% and 43%. The subjects subjective perception and attitude satisfaction were as follow: One subject who complained of poor oral health status before the study had a positive perception after the study, and he said confidence in oral health management. The subjective oral health of the other subject was not significantly changed before and after the study, but the subject had high satisfaction with this program. Conclusions: Both patients responded as satisfied with the progress of the dental hygiene program. Both subjects responded that a dental hygiene process like this program should be applied in the dental clinic. However, both subjects complained of the inconvenience of having to visit several times and the long duration to participate in the program. Future well-designed studies will support the development of clinical research and evidence-based dental hygiene process. These efforts will complete the dental hygiene process of care in Korea.
