This study was conducted to examine effect of taping on balance and force sense in activities of daily living (ADL) of subjects with functional ankle instability (FAI). A total of 14 subjects with FAI volunteered to participate in this study; 5 men 9 women. All the subjects were randomly allocated to an experimental group (n1=7) or a control group (n2=7). While the control group performed ADL for a week without any intervention, the experimental group conducted ADL for a week with their ankles taped. Ankle taping was made with a double heel lock. In order to measure their balance, Stabilometric lux, a component of Global Postural System (GPS), was applied, and in order to measure their force sense, Linear force, a component of Noraxon EMG, was employed. Measurement was made prior to and after the intervention. The Wilcoxon signed-ranks test was used to compare the pre- and post-intervention values and Mann-Whitney U test was employed to compare the two groups' differences. In the experimental group, there were significant differences in total postural sway and postural sway in the midsagittal plane regarding balance (p<.05) and in plantar flexion and inversion regarding force sense (p<.05). The results of this study means that taping offers ankle stability in ADL.
