사회적 기술을 적용한 원예치료가 성인여성 정신지체인의 대인관계와 사회성 향상에 미치는 효과

본 연구는 사회적 기술을 적용한 원예치료 프로그램이 성인 여성 정신지체인의 대인관계와 사회성 향상에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 알아보고자 하였다. 2007년 1월 23일부터 4월 18일까지 곤지암에 위치한 S복지관에서 성인 여성 정신지체인 치료군 12명, 대조군 12명을 선정하였으며, 치료군에게는 사회적 기술을 적용한 원예치료 프로그램을 주2회씩 3개월동안 실시하였다. 원예치료 효과 검증을 위해 원예치료 실시 전·중·후에 사회적 기술 검사도구,대인관계 검사도구, 자아 존중감 척도를 평가하였으며, 매회기마다 원예활동 수행능력 평가도구를 각각 평가하였다. 대조군과 치료군의 원예치료실시 전·중·후를 비교하였을 때, 대조군은 사회적 기술, 대인관계에서는 유의한 차이가 보이지 않았으나 자아존중감에서는 유의한 차이가 있었다.치료군에서는 사회적 기술, 대인관계, 자아존중감 모두 매우 유의한 차이가 있었다. 대조군과 치료군의 사후 비교에서는 치료군이 대조군에 비해 모든 항목에서 유의하게 향상되었다. 치료군의 원예활동 수행능력 사전·사후 비교에서 사회기술 상호작용 영역은 모두 유의하게 향상되었고, 심리행동 영역에서는 흥미와 관심은 향상되었고, 문제행동, 민감성, 의존성, 정서불안, 위축, 욕구불만은 유의하게 감소되었다. 참여성과 자신감에서는 실시 전에 비해 실시 후 향상되었으나 수치상으로는 유의한 차이가 없었다. 치료군의 원예활동 수행능력을 매회기 조사하였을 때, 사회기술 상호작용 영역에서 대상자간의 상호작용, 대상자와 치료사간의 상호작용, 친밀감 모두 유의하게 향상되었으며, 심리행동 영역에서 흥미와 관심, 참여성, 자신감은 유의하게 향상되었고, 문제행동, 민감성, 의존성, 정서불안, 위축, 욕구불만은 유의하게 감소되었다. 따라서 사회적 기술을 적용한 원예치료는 성인 여성 정신지체인의 대인관계와 사회성을 향상시키며, 나아가 사회에 진출할 성인 여성 정신지체인의 사회적응에 도움이 될 수 있다고 판단된다. This study investigated the effect of the horticultural therapy program based upon social skills on the improvement of interpersonal relationships and socialization in adult mental retardation women. From January 23 through April 28, research was conducted on a treatment group and a control group that consisted of 12 mental retardation women each at the “S” Social Welfare Center. In the treatment group, horticultural therapy programs based on social skill were applied twice a week for 3 months. In order to verify the effect of the horticultural therapy, the Social Skills Rating System (SSRS-Teacher form Elementary Level), Interpersonal Negotiation strategies, and Self-Esteem Scale were given as an evaluation before, during, and after treatment and the horticultural activity performance assessment (HAPA) was used for individual assessment each time. When a comparison was made before, during, and after treatment between the control group and treatment group to determine the effect of horticultural therapy, the control group showed a significant difference in self-esteem, but not in social-skills and interpersonal relationships. On the contrary, treatment group showed a highly significant in social-skills, interpersonal relationships as well as self-esteem. In the post-treatment comparison, the treatment group showed a significantly higher rate of improvement than the control group in all three categories. In a pre and post-HAPA comparison of the treatment group, significant improvement was observed in social-skills and interpersonal relationships. In terms of psychological behavior, interest and attention were improved while behavioral problems, sensitivity, dependency, emotional disturbance, withdrawal, and frustration were significantly reduced. Although improvement has been observed in participation and self-confidence after treatment, there was no numerically significant difference detected. When the HAPA was checked every time, social-skills and interpersonal relationships displayed significant improvement in interaction between patients, therapist-patient, and intimacy while psychological behavior displayed significant improvement in interest and attention, participation, and self-confidence, and a significant decrease in behavioral problems, sensitivity, dependency, emotional disturbance, withdrawal, and frustration. It can be postulated that horticultural therapy based upon social skills can help mental retardation women to fit into society by improving their interpersonal relationships and socialization.
