Nanobrick wall multilayer thin films grown faster and stronger using electrophoretic deposition
조충연 한국공업화학회 2019 한국공업화학회 연구논문 초록집 Vol.2019 No.0
The use of electrophoretic deposition (EPD) has been investigated into the polyelectrolyte multilayer nanocomposites constructed with weak polyelectrolytes such as linear polyethyleneimine (LPEI) and poly acrylic acid (PAA) and inorganic clay particles, montmorillonite (MMT), comparing the growth rate, clay composition, surface/internal structures, and mechanical properties. An introduction of electric field was shown to enhance the exponential deposition rate of polyelectrolytes and MMT particles, attaining about 1μm thick film at 10 quadlayers (QLs), while the same number of PNCs in the absence of electric field had 150 nm in thickness. The brick wall nanostructure created by highly oriented clays and polymeric mortar with an electric field applied improved the mechanical properties such as Young's modulus (45 GPa) and tensile strength (75 MPa) at 20 QL-PNCs, which is 40 and 30 times as high as the same thickness of 50 QL without applied electric field, respectively.

To create a paintable/printable thermoelectric material, comprised exclusively of organic components, polyaniline (PANi), graphene, and double-walled nanotube (DWNT), stabilized with an intrinsically conductive polymer, poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS), were alternately deposited from aqueous solutions using a layer-by-layer assembly. The 80 quadlayer thin film (1 μm thick), comprised of a PANi/graphene-PEDOT:PSS/PANi/DWNT-PEDOT:PSS repeating sequence, exhibits electrical conductivity (σ) of 1.88 X 106 S/m and a Seebeck coefficient (S) of 120 μV/K, producing a thermoelectric power factor (S2ㆍσ) of 2710 μW/(mㆍK2).

An alternate deposition of double walled-nanotube (DWNT)-dispersed in polyethyleneimine (PEI) and graphene-dispersed in polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) shows that the σ and S of 80 bilayer DWNT-PEI/ graphene-PVP thin films (~ 320 nm in thickness) are very high (300 S/cm and -80 μV/K), and are air-stable over time. In this first ever investigation of the n-type TE behavior of an LbL-assembled film, the resulting nanocomposites exhibit a remarkable PF of 190 W/mK2 at room temperature, which is one of the highest values reported among organic n-type TE materials. The use of water-based LbL TE nanocoatings can be potentially very useful for novel TE generators for which efficient n-type materials are highly desirable.

Recent many of collaborative researches between architecture and digital media has been emerged in various academic area. However, most case of research dealing with architecture facade and surface has focused on the role of interface in urban environment or also it has been limited as an urban screen that is a exterior surface for being projected images of advertising commercial contents, message and indexical references. I believe that point of view prevents from further investigation about the possibility of digital moving image as a new media surface which builds ontological and phenomenological value of tectonics. In this study, I explore the notion of tectonics that has been developed to identify modern architecture since ninteen century in Germany and how it extend the boundary of the architecture and also how closely it is related to technological development in order to forms new kind of socio cultural venue in urban context.Corresponding to the dematerialized architecture surface beyond its function by highly sophisticated construction technology and newly invented materials, I also recall the notion of haptic visuality generated by various visual practice from early cinema and intercultural film to minimalism artist’s work and projection mapping artist which builds the materiality in conjunction with extended notion of tectonics in different level. Therefore, based on the notion of tectonics, I compose the creative linkage between architectural way of spatial and physical experience, and the augmented materiality that digital moving picture could convey. Also I am pursuing new possibility of digital moving picture and how it treats and revitalizes big data as another crucial elementof contemporary tectonics.
