The studies were carried out on the correlation between microsomal lipid peroxidation level and drug metabolizing enzyme activities in rat liver microsomal suspensions on various ages (2-week-old, 2, 4, 8, and 12-month-old). The lipid peroxidation levels of liver homogenates tended to be elevated in a 4-month-old rat livers, but it was a little decreased in 8 and 12-month-old rat livers. The lipid peroxidation levels of microsomal suspension was not shown any significant differences by ages. Lipid peroxidation levels and microsomal cytochrome P450 and NADPH-cytochrome c reductase activity showed a direct correlation (r=0.72 and r=0.64), respectively. The activities of cytochrome P450-dependent aminopyrine-N-demethylase and benzpyrene hydroxylase in rat liver microsomes were increased by ages up to 8-month-old rats and maintained in 12-month-old rats. The correlation between lipid peroxidation levels and these cytochrome-dependent enzyme activities showed a high direct correlation (r=0.97 and r=0.81), respectively.

Blood samples were obtained from Korean native cattle and dairy cattle of Holstein species in the slaughter house and methylene blue color tests were performed for the detection of the inherited susceptibitity to hemolysis. Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase activities expressed as the optical density obtained by methylene blue color test were the highest as 0.54 in male Korean cattle, 0.62 in female Korean cattle and 0.72 in dairy cattle of Holstein species. Percent hemolysis, packed cell volume and plasma protein contents were measured and compaired with relation to the results of methylene blue color test and no correlation were observed in each.

Sera obtained from 20 milk cows and 20 Korean cattle in group feeding and from 20 Korean cattle from different farmhouses were analyzed for the determination of carotenoid and vitamin A by Carr-Price reaction. The result obtained were as follows: 1. Carotenoid contents of sera from milk cows and Korean cattle in group feeding, and from Korean cattle from different farmhouses were in winter $394.7{\mu}g/100ml$, $157.8{\mu}g/100ml$ and $187.9{\mu}g/100ml$, respectively, and were in summer $735.3{\mu}g/100ml$, $728.2{\mu}g/100ml$ and $760.3{\mu}g/100ml$, respectively. 2. Vitamin A contents of sera from milk cows and Korean cattle in group feeding and from Korean cattle from different farmhouses were in winter 101.2 IU/100 ml, 88.9 IU/100 ml and 48.4 IU/100 ml, respectively, and were in summer 212.0 IU/100 ml, 208.7 IU/100 ml and 208.3 IU/100 ml respectively.
랫드의 조직 mitochondria 활성에 대한 납 투여의 영향

Cardiac, hepatic and renal mitochondria in rats fed lead containing diets were isolated and their activities were studied in terms of NADH oxidation. In normal rats, cardiac and renal mitochondria had similar activities and showed activity values of higher than those in hepatic mitochondria. Cardiac mitochondiral activities in rats fed lead containing diets were increased after 4 weeks of feeding but decreased to activity values close to normal. Renal mitochondrial activities showed a trend of inhibition in all groups fed lead containing diets but were no differenes by feeding periods of 4 and 8 weeks. Feeding of lead containing diets could not be attributed to any changes in the hepatic mitochondrial antivities at experimental doses during 4~8 weeks.

Free amino acid extracts of musculus brachiocephalicus and musculus glutaeus of cattle, swine, goats and rabbits are analyzed to see the composition and the contents of free amino acids by thin layer chromatography and automatic amino acid analyzer. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. Meats of cattle, swine, goats and rabbits analyzed by thin layer chromatography have 6 kinds of free amino acids such as glycine, histidine, methionine, lysine, alanine and leucine, and the spots of glycine in chromatogram of meats of cattle, swine and goats and the ones of methionine in chromatogram of meats of rabbits are the largest and the most denes of all other ones. 2. Distribution curves of free amino acids in meats of cattle, swine, goats and rabbits showed significant differences, but differences on distribution curves of free amino acids between musculus-brachiocephalicus and musculus glutaeus of the same tested animal are not significant. 3. Contents of free amino acids in meats of cattle, swine, goats and rabbits showed significant differences, but differences on contents of free amino acids between musculus brachiocephalicus and musculus glutaeus of the same tested animal are not significant.
한우 무손상 적혈구의 superoxide 및 과산화수소 제거능력

The ability of bovine intact red blood cells to scavenge superoxide and hydrogen peroxide by superoxide dismutase, catalase and glutathione peroxidase was investigated. Intact red cells(up to 0.4%) suspensions did not inhibit ferricytochrome c reduction by superoxide in the superoxide generating system. On the other hand, intact red cell(0.4%) suspensions almost completely inhibit ferrocytochrome c oxidation by hydrogen peroxide. The ability of intact red cells to scavenge hydrogen peroxide was mainly attributed to either membrane bound catalase or glutathione peroxidase. The scavenge of hydrogen peroxide by 0.1~0.2% intact red cells showed a trend of dependence on mainly glutathione peroxidase. However, at blood cell concentration higher than 0.3%, the process depended upon peroxidase-independent scavengers like catalase. Enhancement of ferrocytochrome c oxidation by red cells treated with aminotriazole proved that the protection against hydrogen peroxide was due to catalase, while the protection in the presence of glutathione indicated scavenging effect of glutathione peroxidase against hydrogen peroxide.
전북지역 한우의 red cell fragility와 glutathione peroxidase활성에 관한 연구

The tests related to red cell fragility were performed. Samples of blood anticoagulated with heparin were obtained from Korean native cattle in Chonbuk region abattoir, and classified by the district(Kun) with reference to breeding location. Hemolysis test for red cell fragility was performed with whole blood and glutathione peroxidase activity was measured spectrophotometrically. Blood concentration of selenium, inorganic component of glutathione peroxidase, was also determined fluorophotometrically. The results obtained were summerized as follows; 1. Percent hemolysis of erythrocytes ranged from 13.53 to 20.74%, and its mean Palue was low as $17.11{\pm}9.91%$. Means in all were not district(Kun) in Chonbuk region significantly different. 2. Glutathione peroxidase activity ranged from 2,881 to 4,000mU/ml, and high mean values, $3,352{\pm}1,872mU/ml$, reflected low percent hemolysis. 3. There was a highly negative correlation between the red cell fragility(Y) and blood glutathione peroxidase activity(X). The linear regression equation for these data was: Y=29.86-3.75X with a correlation coefficient of r=-.6886 (p<0.01) 4. Blood selenium concentration ranged from 0.16 to $0.24{\mu}g/ml$, and mean values was normal level as $0.2{\pm}0.11{\mu}g/ml$. 5. There was a highly positive correlation between blood selenium concentration(X), and blood glutathione peroxidase activity(Y). The linear regression for these data was: Y=230+15,790X, with a correlation coefficient officient of r=0. 8635.
窒酸銀-寒天겔 擴散法에 의한 milk중 chloride ion의 微量分析

Adaptation experiments of silver nitrate-agar gel diffusion method for measuring chloride ion concentrations in physiological fluids to the microdetermination of milk chloride ion were described. The method based on the chemical precipitation of silver chloride by radial diffusion through agar gel containing silver nitrate was simple to run and required only 10㎕ of milk when especially low concentrations of 86-114㎜/ℓ silver nitrate solution in the preparation of silver nitrate-agar gel plates were added and proved that diffusion of chlorides to the siver nitrate-agar gel were not interfered by milk components. Raw milk taken from 61 different dairy pastures gave mean value of 98.65㎎/100㎖ chloride ion and average of chloride ion concentrations obtained from 80 market milk samples pasteurized by 8 different milk plants were lower as 85.76/100㎖ than raw milk.

80 milk samples taken from 8 different milk plants were analyzed for nitrite and nitrate nitrogen and the concentrations were usually very low level. Milk tested had comparatively high nitrate-nitrogen contents of average 5.01 ppm with the range 4.01 to 7.10 ppm but lower than 10ppm, upper limit of freshmilk. However some of individual milk tested contained above 7.10ppm and may represent a hazard if used as the sole source for infant food.
