Preferences for ecosystem services provided by urban forests in South Korea

The existence of tradeoffs and synergies between ecosystem services emphasize the need to understand the preferences of ecosystem service beneficiaries. In this paper, the preferences of ecosystem services provided by different types of urban forests in South Korea are ana�lyzed to provide insights on the improved distribution and supply of ecosystem services. The Delphi technique was utilized to elicit expert opinions on the categorization of ecosys�tem services provided by urban forests. A choice experiment on 500 Seoul citizens was then conducted to analyze the preferences for 7 types of ecosystem services – food provision, water flow regulation, noise reduction, microclimate regulation & air quality improvement, moderation & prevention of landslides, biodiversity enhancement, recreation, and health services. An AHP analysis was carried out to investigate experts’ ranking of the relative importance of these ecosystem services. The results showed that except for microclimate regulation & air quality improvement, Seoul citizens’ preferences for different types of urban forests did not differ according to the attribute level of each ecosystem service. There were also no significant differences between the preferences for urban natural parks and urban neighborhood parks, possibly indicating that Seoul citizens perceive them to be similar. Secondly, the results indicate a higher preference for urban forests with certain features, such as a higher proportion of fruit trees and deciduous trees, higher leaf area, denser tree canopy cover, wider distances between trees, and higher levels of species richness. The enhancement of biodiversity was considered the most influential service for Seoul citizens in their choice of urban forests. Seoul citizens were willing to pay 12,176 KRW/year and 21,036 KRW/year to enhance the level of biodiversity from “poor” to “average” and from “average” to “rich,” respectively. Finally, preferences and relative importance for almost all ecosystem services were different for citizens and experts. As it is impossible to maximize the provision of all ecosystem services concurrently, policymakers and urban forest managers need to con�sider citizens’ preferences and opinions when designing and managing urban forests in order to increase user satisfaction and welfare.

모빌리티 O2O 서비스 사용성 평가 연구 - 카카오T 애플리케이션을 중심으로 -

본 연구는 국내 시장에서 활발히 사용 중인 모빌리티 O2O 서비스 카카오T 애플리케이션을 중심으로 사용성 평가를 통해 카카오T만의 차별성과 개선방안을 도출하는 데 목적이 있다. 1차로 모빌리티 O2O 서비스 시장에 대한 현황을 파악하고, 2차로 카카오T 애플리케이션의 주요 기능과 전반적인 인터페이스를 중심으로 피터 모빌(Peter Morvile)의 허니콤 모델(Honeycomb model) 사용성 평가 원칙을 5가지로 재구성하여 심층 인터뷰를 실행하였다. 그 결과, 첫 번째로 모빌리티 서비스로서 수요와 공급의 불균형에서 오는 문제점이 있지만 앞으로 추가될 기능인 카풀을 통해 개선될 것으로 보인다. 두 번째로는 기존의 기능별 애플리케이션이 존재하는 상황에서 카카오T에 합쳐진 기능들의 필요성을 인지하지 못하는 것에 대한 문제점이 도출되었다. 본 연구를 바탕으로 도출된 개선방안은 모빌리티 O2O 서비 스 사용자의 편의성을 증진하고 플랫폼을 강화하는 데 도움이 될 것으로 기대된다. The purpose of this study is to derive the differentiation and improvement measures of Kakao T through a usability evaluation centered on the service. In-depth interviews were conducted by first identifying the status of the mobility O2O service and reconfiguring the usability principles of the Honeycomb model, focusing on the functions and interfaces. First, there are problems driven from the imbalance in supply and demand as a mobility service, but it is likely to be improved through the addition of future features, carpooling. Second, problems were elicited for not recognizing the need for incorporated functions of Kakao T in the presence of existing functional-specific applications. Improvements derived based on this study are expected to help increase the convenience of users of mobility O2O services.
