부모 비동반 조기 유학 청소년의 생활실태와 문제점 및 지원방안

본 연구는 부모 비동반 유학생들의 생활실태와 문제점, 그리고 지원 방안을 탐구하고자 캐나다에서 혼자 조기유학 중인 학생들 및 조기유학생과 관련을 가진 다양한 영역의 제보자들을 대상으로 자료를 확보하였다. 심층면접을 통해 얻어진 자료는 내용분석방법으로 분석되었다. 분석결과, 부모의 보살핌과 감독이 없이 생활하는 유학생들은 정서적 어려움, 자기통제의 문제 등의 경험을 가지는 것으로 나타난 반면 이들이 경험하는 사회적 지원의 수준은 다양한 것으로 나타났다. 제보자들은 유학생들의 개인차에 따른 적응차이, 부담감, 또래관계 문제와 생활관리의 문제를 언급하였으며, 현지 교육 체계에 대한 부모들의 무지와 비현실적 기대, 가디언 및 홈스테이 제도의 문제, 교사와 부모간의 의사소통의 결여를 문제점으로 지적하였다. 연구결과에 기초하여 부모들을 위한 지원과 교육의 강화를 포함한 지원 방안들이 연구자에 의해 제시되었다. This paper explored the experiences of young Korean international students who were not living with their parent(s). The data was collected through in?depth interviews with the students as well as other key informants in Greater Vancouver, Canada. Our findings revealed information about their emotional problems, difficulties in self control and variant perceptions about the levels of social support available to them. The key informants added further details about their individual differences, stress levels, and their peer relationships. They pointed to the lack of knowledge and to the unrealistic expectations of parents in supporting their children, and the role ambiguity of guardians/hosts as major problems. Suggestions for dealing with such problems include education and support for the parents of children in such situations were included in our discussion.
