This paper described the current rating methodology and shielding effectiveness of high voltage connectors used for high efficiency vehicles. Temperature rise at rated current has been used to rate power contacts in automotive connector. However, for automotive applications, this is required to meet severe environmental conditions and high connector reliability. So, it is important to rate an allowable current of automotive connector. We have measured the contact characteristics through current cycling at room temperature and at high temperature, as well as temperature rising and current-carrying capacity tests by de-rating. From the above results, we have developed high reliable contacts with high current-carrying capacity of about 80 Amperes. In addition, for shielding protects against radiated electromagnetic field in high voltage current, we designed the shielded connector with various shielding parts. We could achieve satisfactory performance of EMI, 40 ㏈ in the frequency range of 0.1 ㎑ ~ 3 ㎓.
