Monte Carlo Simulation Study on Dose Enhancement by Gold Nanoparticles in Brachytherapy

Radiation dose enhancement by injection of a high atomic number (Z) material into tumor volumes has been studied for various radiation sources and different concentrations of gold nanoparticles. Brachytherapy employs low energy photons of less than 0.5 MeV, which indeed is the optimal energy range for radiation dose enhancement by introduction of high-Z material. The present study uses the MCNPXTM code to estimate the dose enhancement by gold nanoparticles for the four common brachytherapy sources (137Cs, 192Ir, 125I, and 103Pd). Additionally, cisplatin (H6Cl2N2Pt), a platinum-based chemotherapeutic drug, was used to evaluate the dose enhancement. The simulated source models were evaluated with reference to the calculated TG-43 parameter values. The dose enhancement in the tumor region due to the gold nanoparticles and cisplatin was evaluated according to the dose enhancement factor (DEF). The maximum values of the average DEFs were found to be 1.03, 1.11, 3.43, and 2.17 for the 137Cs, 192Ir, 125I, and 103Pd sources, respectively. The dose enhancement values for the low-energy sources were significantly higher than those for the high-energy sources. The dose enhancement due to cisplatin was calculated by using the same approach and was found to be comparable to that of the gold nanoparticles. The maximum value of the average DEF for cisplatin was 1.12 for the 5% concentration level in water and a 192Ir source. We confirmed that cisplatin could be applied to cancer therapy that combines chemotherapeutic drugs with radiation therapy. The results presented herein will be used to study dose enhancement in tumor regions using various radiation modalities with high atomic number materials.

Purpose: The main purpose of this study is to analyze the link between the demographic vari-ables of multicultural families in the causes and outcomes of violence in multicultural families in Korea. Specifically, this study aims to verify whether the gender and age variables of multi-cultural families have statistically significant relationships with the causes and consequences of violence in multicultural families. Method: First, frequency analysis was conducted to identify the general characteristics of the survey sample using SPSS 23.0. Second, the Cronbach's α coefficient was calculated to verify the reliability of the questionnaire. Third, t-test was conducted to identify the differences in each question by gender. Fourth, One Way ANOVA was conducted to identify the differences in each question by age. Fifth, Cross Tabulation(Chi-Square) was conducted to identify the connection differences in gender and age. Results: The level of response was derived differently depending on the gender and age of the couples of multicultural families in some cases of the causes and results of violence in multicul-tural families. The analysis results of this study suggest that the central and local governments need a customized strategy considering the gender and age of policy recipients in establishing and implementing policies to support multicultural families. Conclusion: Despite the practical contribution of this study, the following limitations exist, and they should be addressed in follow-up studies on multicultural families. First, the cause and re-sult of violence in multicultural families used in the analysis of this study are not clear on the meaning classification for each of the questions. Second, since this study only validates the as-sociation among the variables, it can be pointed out that the limitations of the failure to verify the causal relationship between them.

This study was designed to examine therapeutic effect of natural honeybee (Apis mellifera) venom in pigs with arthritis. Pigs were assigned to treated and nontreated control groups. In treated group, 51 pigs were given natural honeybee venom once a day for 5 consecutive days. Acupoints of Sam-li, Jok-su and Pal-ja were stung by the natural honey bees. In control group, 46 pigs were intramuscularly injected with a standard dosage of penicillin G (400,000 IU/kg of body weight) once a day for 5 consecutive days. On day 5 following bee venom therapy, 73.9% of control pigs and 86.2% of pigs in treated group recovered from arthritis. Bee acupuncture therapy did not show any side effects such as allergy, intoxication, hemorrhage, or infection. It might be concluded that honeybee venom therapy was effective in controlling of pig with arthritis.
Numerical Method for a Linear Array of Damped Driven Oscillators

In this work, we investigate a numerical method for solving an in.nitely long linear array of oscillators with unequal masses and spring constants, subjected to not only a harmonic driving force but also a frictional drag force, using vectors to represent the coe±cients of a series solution. We also present numerical solutions for a concrete problem as an example of the potential applications of this method.
A Study on Introduction to Private Investigation System and Direction Through Predicting Demand

In Korea, private investigation business had been called as Heungsineop but it changed to messenger center from 1970s. Foreign private investigation agencies have started to run business as crisis management agency, consulting agency after Korea joined OECD in 1996. foreign private investigation agencies are still growing illegally by using similar names to private investigation business and today, these are covered doing illegal acting like shadowing, phone-tapping, even contract through media sources. Today, according to statistical data by the National Police Agency late 2012, messenger agencies are around 1574 in domestic and 939 of those are in the metropolitan area. Illegal types are uncovered as investigating personal life 27(68%), personal information offering 7(18%), location tracing 5(12%), illegal claim collection 1(2%) plus, clients for these company are uncovered as housewife 196(34%), company employee 152(27%), independent businessman 78(14%), profession 35(6%). Correctly present situation and dispersion of domestic private investigation businesses like security company because private investigation system has not been enacted in domestic, until now. Thus, this study try to analyze demand of private investigation for a proposal in legislation process which is pending in 19th assembly like Yun Jae-Ok's 「All Amendments Private Security Act」 and Song Young-Geun's 「Private Invstigation Act」 so we expect to that private investigation system is introduced to Korea as soon as possible.
