The aim of this paper is to investigate the problem of strip down method, which is usually used to evaluate the engine friction level. The validity of strip down method was investigated by theoretical analysis of friction in crank and piston assembly. The friction of cylinder and piston assembly was analyzed under the various test conditions. The measured cylinder pressure was used as boundary conditions of friction torque and loss calculation. The friction loss of crank and piston assembly was influenced by test conditions that resulted from the variation of load condition. From the results, we have known that the strip down method could be possible to distort the friction loss of engine moving components.

This paper reports on the starved lubrication for the piston ring. In this analysis, two types of inlet boundary conditions, fully flooded and starved condition, are considered at the leading edge. The inlet position of effective lubrication and squeeze term are obtained by numerically iterative method. The effective lubricated region is reduced due to the starved condition at the inlet. The starved condition at the inlet significantly reduced the minimum oil film thickness(MOFT) at the midstroke of piston, and the friction force is also increased due to the thin oil film thickness. In the starved conditions, the power loss is significantly increased.

This paper reports on the effects of crankshaft offset on the engine friction. The effects of crank offset are investigated through the theoretical analysis. In this study, the mathematical models are presented fer evaluationg the friction level of each engine parts. Crank offset influences on the side force acted on the piston pin and sliding speed of piston. Crank offset is very effective to reduce the piston skirt friction. With application of crank offset, total engine friction decreases at low engine speed, but that increase as engine speed increases.

Radiolucence is a roentgenographic finding of osteolysis after total hip arthroplasty, and extensive osteolysis can simulate a metastatic cancer or other osteolytic malignant tumor. This study is on the case that was 29-year old female patient who had gotten a total hip arthroplasty for the treatment of fibrous dysplasia of the femoral head twelve years ago, and had severe expansive osteolysis in the pubic bone. The patient had been transferred from several hospital with the strong suspicion as a malignancy.

The aim of this paper is to investigate the friction characteristics of piston assembly, which composed of ring pack and piston skirt. The friction force of piston assembly was measured by using the movable liner in the single cylinder engine, and the various parameters were tested. The friction force was suddenly increased at the expansion stroke due to higher cylinder pressure. The viscous friction was dominant at the mid stroke, but the boundary friction was dominant at the top and bottom dead centers. Through the experiment, we could validate previous theoretical study, and confirm that th e radial clearance and ring tension were very effective to reduce friction loss of piston assembly.
연료 주입형 마찰 조정제가 엔진 마찰 및 연비에 미치는 영향에 대한 실험적 연구

This paper reports on the effect of fuel additive friction modifier on the engine friction and fuel consumption. The test of engine friction and fuel consumption is performed for the each oils and fuels. The TFA4724 friction modifier is added in test oil and fuel. The test results show that total engine friction is a decrease of 0.7-2.0% compared with base fuel, and fuel consumption is improved by 0.3%. The amount of friction reduction corresponds to that of boundary friction loss term in ring-pack friction losses. From the results, it is thought that the additive friction modifier in the fuel is effective to reduce the boundary friction in ring-pack.
