Objectives : The purpose of this study is to investigate the clinical application of chuna for temporomandibular joint(TMJ) in nuchal pain patients with temporomandibular joint disorder(TMD). Methods : Four patients were treated by chuna for TMJ to evaluate the effect of the treatment. The patient's symptoms were assessed by visual analogue scale(VAS), neck disability index(NDI), cervical lordotic curvature. Results : In all case, the pain was reduced according to VAS, NDI. cervical lordotic curvature of three cases were improved. Conclusions : These results suggest that chuna for TMJ might be an effective method to treat nuchal pain with TMD. But, it's necessary to have more observations and experiments.

This study was conducted to investigate the effects of feeding probiotics (gene modified yeast) on the growth performances in pigs. In pigs, this study investigated the effects of dietary probiotics which contained antibacterial probiotics (OR-7, bacteriocin, gene modified yeast) on growth performances and feed efficiency in pig farm. A total of 150 pigs were studied. The treatments are probiotics yeast (PY) 0.3% (basal diet + 0.3% plasmid modified probiotics), PY 0.5% (basal diet + 0.5% plasmid modified probiotics), yeast (Y) 0.3% (basal diet + 0.3% probiotics), Y 0.5% (basal diet + 0.5% probiotics) and control (basal diet). Weight gain, feed intake and feed efficiency were periodically recorded for 90 days. The treatment group trended higher weight gain, feed intake and feed efficiency than control. And, the PY group trended higher weight gain, feed intake and feed efficiency than Y group.

Addie is the main character in As I Lay Dying, one of the William Faulkner`s greatest novels, being depicted as dying and undying entity during the funeral journey by her family members. Despite her scarcity of presence in the text her influence in the text is the main driving force of the story telling in the text, dominating the conscious and the unconscious of the characters in the development of the novel. She was disappointed and frustrated by the emptiness of the words from her husband, Anse Bundren, with deceitfulness and incompetency in household financial matters. While pursuing her real love away from Anse`s valueless remarks, she committed adultery with the Reverend Whitfield. Jewel is the child resulted from the adulterous relation between Addie and the preacher. Addie takes care of and only loves the illegitimate child not observing the duty as mother for the children between Anse and herself. She disregards motherhood as the invented word for the people who make use of it. The readers of the novel can consider her attitude and philosophy as problematic issues, but it is undoubtful that her presence or non presence distills the whole frame of the text roaming the conscious and the unconscious of the characters in the novel.

The Significance of Learning Empathy for Democratic Education in Carson McCullers’s The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter and Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird

This study explores the ways that American institutional and cultural education has been depicted in the literature of the early twentieth century. It questions the degree to which education in the United States actually engenders the critical and creative thinking necessary for democratic citizenship and shared power. A true democratic education is an education of emancipation; however, the ‘othering’ of race, class, and gender often prevent emancipatory education from occurring. The prominence of the issues of emancipation and indoctrination in twentieth century novels suggests that the same paradoxes about education and democracy exist. This study traces the tensions of emancipation and indoctrination from both institutions and culture in Carson McCullers’s The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter and Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird. It concludes that the protagonists in these novels, much like most people encountered in our schools and streets, have the ability to emancipate themselves from the ‘othering’ and ideologies in our culture. However, many of our institutions and societal assumptions continue to indoctrinate persons into the hierarchical system. Through these two novels, Lee and McCullers strongly suggest that learning empathy should be the only way to transcends the boundaries of prejudice and hate which our society and culture make.

흉추의 추나요법을 시행한 경항통 환자 치험 7례 보고

Objectives The purpose of this study is to investigate the clinical application of chuna for thoracic in the patients with nuchal pain. Methods Seven patients were treated by chuna for thoracic to evaluate the effect of the treatment. The patient’s symptoms were assessed by visual analogue scale (VAS), neck disability index (NDI) and cervical lordotic curvature. Results In all cases, the pain was reduced according to VAS, NDI. Cervical lordotic curvature of 6 cases were improved in terms of Jackson’s angle. 5 cases were improved in terms of Depth of cervical curve and Method of Jochumsen. 4 cases were improved in terms of Angle of cervical curve (C2∼C7) and Ishihara index. 3 cases were improved in terms of Angle of cervical curve (C1∼C7). Conclusions These results suggest that chuna on thoracic might be an effective method to treat nuchal pain with extension malposition of thoracic. 윌리엄 포크너 소설에 드러나는 비이성적인 면모

This paper explores the aspects of irrationality in William Faulkner``s two novels, The Sound and the Fury and Light in August. The irrational aspects in the novels focused on elaboration upon tragic elements like war, massacre, and violence in Yoknapatawpha County after the Civil War in the history of the Southern society of the United States of America. The Southern society of America was indulged in the glorious past but it was tainted with violent evilness, lynch, and even castration and murder. Faulkner, as one of the greatest Southern writers, suggested for hope and remedy for restoration of the South in the texts through women``s benevolence and warmth, and feminine nature and generative quality to heal the deeply rotten and troubled Southern society with irrationality as well as stubbornness of the past. It is significant that the Nobel prize laureate with his clairvoyance had considered and depicted women well ahead of the era of white supremacy and patriarchy as the healer and curer of all the irrational evilness which had been executed in the deep Southern society.

초점구조의 통사적 분석

본 논문의 목적은 Breul(2001, 2004)이 제시한 통사적 체계에 근거하여 한국어 초점구조를 분석하고 Chomsky(1995)가 제시한 연쇄이론을 변형하여 한국어의 다양한 초점구조를 보이는 것을 목적으로 한다. 초점은 다양한 언어적 장치를 통해서 나타난다. 이러한 이유로 이에 대한 정의와 연구방법이 다양하다. 어떤 학자들(Jones 2006, Dechaine 2002, E. Kiss 1998a; 1998b, Brody 1990; 1995, etc.)은 초점구조에 대한 통사적 접근법을 취한다. 이 접근법은 초점을 통사구조 내에서 wh-이동처럼 이동현상으로 간주한다. 그러나 Lambrecht(1994, 2001)는 초점에 대한 연구는 언어적 구성요소들(예, 통사-의미 접합점, 담화-화용 접합점) 간의 접합점에서 연구되어야 한다고 주장한다. 더욱이 Breul(2001, 2004)은 초점구가설과 [±foc] 자질을 가정하고 초점구조를 범주적, 확인적, 단언적으로 분류하였다. 그는 통사, 의미 그리고 억양 내에서 통합적인 접근법을 취하였다. 이와 같이 통사와 의미의 경계에서 Han(1998)은 -은/는의 어휘적 분석의 한계를 밝히면서 한국어의 명사-은/는에서 -은/는이 주제 혹은 초점으로 해석되는 이유를 설명하려고 하였다. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the focus structure in Korean based on the syntactic framework proposed by Breul(2001, 2004), and to show various focus structures in Korean modifying the chain theory proposed by Chomsky(1995). Focus is represented by various means of linguistic devices. That`s why its definition and its research method is varied. Some linguists take syntactic approach to the analysis of focus structure(Jones 2006, Dechaine 2002, E. Kiss 1998a; 1998b, Brody 1990; 1995, etc.). This approach generally considers the focus is a kind of movement like wh-movent within the syntactic structure. However, Lambrecht(1994, 2001) argues that the research on focus should be done in the interface of some components of linguistics, e.g. syntax-semantic interface, discourse-pragmatic interface). Furthermore, assuming FocP-hypothesis and [±foc] features, Breul(2001, 2004) tries to categorize the focus structure into three: categorical, identificational, and thetic focus structure. He takes integrated approach to the analysis within the interface of syntax, semantics and intonation. Likewise, on the boundary of syntax and semantics, Han(1998) tries to explain why the -(n)un in NP-(n)un in Korean is interpreted as topic or focus, finding the limitations of the lexical analysis of -(n)un.

월경통에 대한 추나요법과 침 병용요법의 비교연구

Objectives The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of chuna with and without acupuncture, and compare the effect of both group by VAS (visual analogue scale) and Cox menstrual symptom scale. Methods This study was carried out on 24 dysmenorrhea patients. 24 patients were divided into single treatment group(Group A) and combined treatment group (Group B). Group A treated with chuna. Group B treated with chuna and acupuncture. After performing chuna and acupuncture 8 weeks, we compared both in terms of VAS and Cox menstrual symptom scale. Results 1) Both group A and group B showed significant improvement in abdominal pain and lumbago after treatment. 2) Both group A and group B showed significant improvement in Cox menstrual symptom scale for both frequency and severity after treatment. 3) There were no significant differences between both groups. Conclusions According to above results, we found out that performing chuna with and without acupuncture has effect in terms of VAS and Cox menstrual symptom scale. But, we can``t found out difference between single treatment and combined treatment. (J Korean Med Rehab 2014;24(3):157-164)

근에너지기법과 경근간섭파요법이 요통환자의 요방형근 경근전도에 미치는 영향

Objectives The purpose of this study is to compare the effects of MET (muscle energy technique) and ICT (interferential current therapy) on lumbago by meridian muscle electrography (MMEG). We performed MET and ICT on quadratus lumborum muscle. Methods This study was carried out on 30 lumbago patients. 30 patients were randomly divided into MET group and ICT group. MET group take treatment 10 minutes. ICT group take treatment 15 minutes. After performing MET and ICT twice, we compared both in terms of root mean square (RMS), special edge frequency (SEF), VAS and ODI. Results 1. Both MET group and ICT group showed significant improvement in VAS and ODI after treatment. 2. Both MET group and ICT group showed significant improvement in special edge frequency (SEF) of the left side after treatment. But SEF of the right side showed insignificant improvement. 3. Both MET group and ICT group showed insignificant improvement in root mean square (RMS) for both sides. 4. There are no significant differences between both groups. Conclusions According to above results, we found out that performing MET or ICT on quadratus lumborum muscle has effect in terms of VAS and ODI. But, in terms of SEF, we found out different result for both side. And we can``t found out effect in terms of RMS. (J Korean Med Rehab 2014;24(3):121-130)

『압살롬 압살롬!』에 나타난 텍스트의 독자 몰입에 대한 내레이티브 기술의 기여

최근 많은 관심을 불러 일으키고 있는 독자 중심 비평에 있어 많은 비평가들은 『압살롬 압살롬!』에 드러난 독자가 갖는 특정 역할의 문제점을 지적해 왔다. 본 논문은 독자가 소설을 읽는 과정에서 주어진 내레이티브에 의존해야 하는 경우와 독자가 소설의 감성적이고 감정적인 부분에 스스로 적극적으로 참여하여 몰입하는 경우를 나누어 연구해 보았다. 이러한 상황에서 본 논문은 소설의 기본 개념이 내레이티브 기술에 근저한 스토리텔링에서 서사의 중심을 찾을 수 있음을 밝히고 있다. 『압살롬 압살롬!』은 텍스트 안에 있는 여러 다층의 내레이터를 통해 목소리를 전달하고 있으며 여기에 독자들은 미스 로자, 퀜틴, 슈리브와 같은 등장 인물들의 목소리를 수용함과 동시에 이들에게서 새로운 의미의 창조라는 작업을 해 내고 있다. 독자들은 등장인물들이 가져다 줄 수 있는 ‘진실’에 귀 기울이고 ‘진실’을 찾으려고 노력하기도 하는데 등장인물들의 목소리에 바탕을 둔 내레이티브는 독자 스스로가 의미를 부여하고 찾는 과정에서 새로운 의미로 재생산 된다.
