FCEV uses electric energy generated from the reaction between Hydrogen and Oxygen in fuel cell stack as driving force. As fossil fuels are exhausted, fuel cell is regarded as a potent substitute for next generation energy source, and thus, most of car-makers make every efforts to develop fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV). In addition, fuel cell is also beneficial in aspect of environment, because only clean water is produced during chemical reaction process instead of harmful exhausted gas. Generally, Hydrogen is supplied from high-pressured fuel tank, and air blower (or compressor) supplies Oxygen by pressurizing ambient air. Air blower which is driven by high speed motor consumes about 7{sim}8% of energy generated from fuel cell stack. Therefore, the efficiency of an air blower is directly linked with the overall performance of FCEV. This study will present developing process of an air blower and its consisting parts respectively.

Object:Marrow stromal cells(MSCs) have been shown to have the capacity of orthodox and unorthodox plasticity. In this study, the authors tried to differentiate MSCs into immune effector cell and also to access in vitro cytotoxicity of MSCs from rat. Methods:Rat MSCs(rMSCs) were isolated by standard methodology and were activated by interleukin-2(IL-2), interleukin- 15(IL-15), colony stimulating factor GM-CSF, and combinations. Phenotypes of these various activated cells were determined using flow cytometry. The secreted protein from effector cells was estimated by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Cytotoxicity of rMSCs and activated rMSCs against the target cells(9L rat glioma cell line) were estimated using visual survival cell assay. The expression of immune response related genes in activated cells was measured. Results:After various cytokines activation of rMSCs, the population of immune effector cells(CD8, CD161a) and immune reaction related proteins(IL-4, γ-INF) were increased. There was a significant cytotoxicity of rMSCs activated with various cytokine combinations. Apoptosis may be one of the lysis mechanism of target cells by activated rMSCs. The contributing genes could be γ-INF, FasL and perforin. Conclusion:This study suggests that rMSC may differentiate into immune effector cells and have cytotoxic capability against malignant glioma cells. However, we have to investigate orthotopic animal study for the proper translation.

This study had been carried out for automotive axial fan using three dimensional unsteady CFD analysis including shroud. The test and predicted result from steady state CFD analysis was compared with. It showed a very good agreement between test and the prediction of air flow rate. Two fans with different sweep angle showed quite different performance and noise level. Especially the overall noise of forward swept fan is lower 2 to 3 dB than straight blade fan with the same flow rate. To figure out where this difference came out three dimensional unsteady state CFD analysis was carried out for two fans. And the differences of flow characteristics between swept and straight blade was analysed. Also aero-acoustic calculation was performed in this paper using unsteady flow analysis result. Acoustic characteristics of two fans and differences between evaluation and analysis are presented.

This paper deals with the experimental study for the development of high voltage induction coolant heater for EV. High voltage coolant heaters can solve two issues. One is cabin heating of green car that has no engine heat. The other issue is cold start of EV below -10 ℃ that harms its battery span. Integrated thermal systems are needed that can handle with cabin heating and battery warming-up at the same time. In this study, Induction coolant heater has been developed as a heat source of the thermal systems and its basic performances such as heating power, efficiency, coolant pressure drop have been met by building and testing samples based on study about working coil turn and work piece’s parameters such as diameter, length, thickness, permeability. As a result, its package is smaller and its weight is lighter than coolant heaters using PTC stone. So, we can expect better competitive price and fuel efficiency.

This paper presents noise reduction FCEV (Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle) turbo type Air Blower. Noise of centrifugal air blower consists of the aerodynamic noise , resonance of the rotor, electromagnetic noise of a motor, bearing failure noise. Conducted test and analysis in order to improve the noise of the initial sample was measured. Through the test, rotor resonant mode, rotor unbalance, case resonance, and bearing problems as the cause of the noise was classified. Have found ways to resolve the problem, improved designs were considered and through the test, verify improved design.

FCEV uses electric energy generated from fuel cell stack, thus all consisting parts must be re-designed to be suitable for electricity based system. Cathode air blower which supplies compressed air into fuel cell stack has similar shape of turbocharger, but a radial turbine of traditional turbocharger is removed and high speed BLDC motor is installed . Generally, maximum 10% of electric power of fuel cell stack is consumed in air blower, therefore an effective design of air blower can improve the performance of FCEV directly. This study will present an aerodynamic design process of an air blower and compare computational results with experimental data.
