Not only a style of art but also fashion is influenced by social environment, political event and philosophical thought of that time. The purpose of this study is to find out the influence of Enlightenment thought on characteristics and patterns of empire style from the late 18th to the early 19th century. The result can be summarized as follows: First, Enlightenment thought and fashion had been spread out with same route that it started from England, convey to France and then to Europeans. Secondly, political and economical change with Enlightenment movement influenced on Neoclassicism which affected art, architecture, painting, sculpture, literature, music as well as fashion. Thirdly, the empire style had four specific properties - simplicity, functionality, classicality and beauty of body - which are explained the effects on emphasis of human, nature, rationality and enlightening thought. Finally, the bodice patterns of empire style had the characteristics which were simplicity and functionality, the sleeves had also same characteristics of the bodice patterns. Those of skirts had simplicity, classicality and functionality. From this study it is manifested that we can annalize the situation of one time through both silhouettes of costume and patterns.
키치패션에 관한 연구 : 유희적 키치와 모방적 키치를 중심으로 Focused on the Funny Kitsch and the Imitative Kitsch

19th century was formed in the process of the commercialization of the art and was developed with the concept, a vulgar taste and anti-aesthetics. However, Kitsch pursued the democratization of the art with connecting the mass culture and the upper class culture. Kitsch fashion expresses the vulgarities through the ill-mannered outfit and diffused adornments and purses the beauty of the anti-fashion and anti-style out of the traditional beauty order. In the past, Kitsch fashion destroyed the beauty of the tradition imitating the style of the upper class or the elite class ; however, it leads the fashion pursuing the recovery of humanism. The modern Kitsch fashion is classified with the funny Kitsch which resists the mediocrity and pursues the anti-fashion and anti-style with amusement and fun and the imitation Kitsch which prefers the beauty and luxuries wearing the imitation shamelessly which is mass-produced with a low price.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the formative costume of Baroque style and to investigate the chacrateristic of loop and tassel which are the main factors of decoration in the Post-modern clothing in point of the characteristic of retro. For this purpose, theoretical studies about the concepts of Post-modernism and aesthetic sphere of Baroque style were preceeded. Especially the parody which is concept that is the most influencing to the contemporary art, architecture, and costume. It is the identity of the parody that is being understood smoothly the creation and the imitation which is contrasted each other. The parody is urging the purpose rather than the essence and the recreation rather than the originality of the original works. The synthetic results were as follows : 1. The frequent usage of loop and tassel which was expressed in the first half of 1990`s in the modern clothing influenced the aesthetic will of aspriation about the past. 2. The characteristic of retro to the traditional form constitutes a base of spiritual thinking of Post-modernism which has been expressed in 1970`s afterwards. The peculiarity about the great change in the traditional concept of artistic creation in the Post-modern clothing is the very extention of a range of application about the retro in which it becomes the essence or the opportunity in artistic creation.

The development and the meaning of the Japanese mode in the history of the 20th century fashion will be examined through the study of the Japanese mode shown in the fashion of the 20th century.<br/> The Japanese mode has been specified and diversified since 1970'S. The Japanese mode at the end of the 20th century showed the depth of Japanese culture through its fashion different from other ethnic looks. It, in terms of style concept, applied the molding elements of traditional costume and its ornaments for its superficial forms, and it developed the special Japanese mode by condensing Japanese aesthetics extracted from oriental ideas into the design of dress and its ornaments for the internal conception.<br/> The Japanese mode suggests a possible construction of the materialization of global future fashion on the Japanese root and identity by studying and analysing its own tradition.
