Since the Sinyu Persecution in 1801, Korean Catholics were dispersed throughout the country, and new Catholic communities were formed in Suwon as well as in other regions. Judging from a report written by the Chinese priest Yu Bangje(a.k.a. Pacifico) in 1836, there seems to have been 11 to 13 Catholic communities in the area currently known as the Suwon Diocese, and 130 to 140 Catholics lived in those communities. However, it was only after the Byeong-in Persecution in 1866, that the martyrs who had either grown up or lived and worked in Suwon region began to appear. Out of the 103 Korean saints, twelve were connected to the communities in Suwon region: these saints were Jang Jugi Joseph, Jo Hwaseo Peter, Jeong Cheolyeom Catharina, Jeong Euibae Mark, Bak Hujae John, Heo Gyeim Magdalene, Yi Maeim Teresa, Yi Jeonghee Barbara, Yi Yeonghee Magdalene, Choi Gyeonghwan Francis, Min Geukga Stephen, and Jeong Hwagyeong Andrew. Also, among the 124 martyrs who are currently in the process of beatification or canonization, Jang Thomas, Shin Taebo Peter, and Yi Seongrye Maria were also from Suwon area. In addition, there are quite a few lesser-known martyrs who made such remarkable contributions and exhibited such extraordinary faith that they may very well be beatified or canonized in the future. There are eight martyrs who are prime candidates for such a possibility: Ji Thaddaeus, Bak Euiseo Sabas, Bak Wonseo Mark, Bak Ikseo, Won Francis, Yun Paul, Kim Sabeom, and Bak Mark. They led holy family lives marked by filial piety and brotherly love, and tirelessly evangelized. We should study their lives, make their endeavors known to public, and make them our models to emulate. In addition, the Diocese of Suwon should take the initiative to begin the process of canonization for these martyrs.

In the persecution period the Devotion to Blessed Mother of Korean Catholic Church have originated in the book of Western Learning from China. It was concretized by the leaders of church, Priest Joo, Moon-mo, President Jung, Yak-jong and etc. It was continued to communities such as Virgins, the group of people admiring Virgin Mary and Myungdo society that gives chaplet regularly. Tradition of respect on the Virgin Mary, distinguished from Devotees in the early period of Catholic church, especially martyrs, was reinvigorated and developed more by the French missionaries in the persecution period. Among the French missionaries, Bishop Imbert and Bishop Daveluy had great deal of influence. Thus, Devotion to Blessed Mother which succeed from the early period of Korean Catholic church, made an affluent devotion of martyrdom. The devotion of martyrdom of Korean Catholic church can be judged to be brought up and protected with special respect and deep entrustment of Blessed Mother.

The word Mirinae is originated from the village name Meecheonri(彌迤川里) which appeared in the provincial geography book of Yang-seong(陽城) county in 1840s, and the village was belong to Geum-gok(金谷) subcounty at that time. Mirinae shrine is a famous and historic holy place which has been closely connected with St. Rev. Kim Dae-geun Andreas. Here is the tomb of priest Kim Andreas who was the first native priest in Korean Catholic Church and was martyred in 1846. Besides this fact, it seems likely that father Kim Andreas has visited to this Kongso(公所) the secondary station whose master was catechist Choi(崔) during 4 months from January to April in 1846. And Mirinae has two more famous tombs, and the masters of them are all contemporary connected with priest Kim Andreas. One of them is Mgr. the 3rd Apostolic Vicar of Choseon, another Go Ursula the mother of priest Kim. Mgr. was the spiritual leader of priest Kim and was like his father as his senior, so we can see priest Kim's obedience to Mgr. Ferreol through the tomb. And we can also feel priest Kim's filial piety to his mother Go Ursula he tried to serve devotedly though the time was no more than about 4 months. Therefore we can say that These tombs makes the meanings of reverence for priest Kim more distinguished. Mirinae was not only the ministry base for priest Callais during one year from October in 1862, but also was priest 's one during one year from October or from November in 1864, and here they retired and have a good slack, writing letters, pastoral reports, doctrine publications, regular praying to God, being absorbed in meditation about 2 months long. And so they were able to prepare themselves for the next journey for ministry and to build up their physical strength. For these reasons, Mirinae was the safe selter and encouraging place for French priest during the persecution period. Mirinae had 17 anonymous tombs had been moved from neighboring Mirinae such as Eungdarani, Sooji, Handeokgol maybe in the Byeong-in persecution period. One of them from Handeokgol was known as the tomb of St. Lee Yoon-il John, and it was moved to the Archdiocese of Daegu in 1986, and there are 16 anonymous tombs remained in Mirinae now in 2008. And so very humble and devotional spiritual fragance of the anonymous martyrs is smelled in the Mirinae shrine, and consequently many pilgrims come here are able to find the example of their faithful lives. Mirinae has become to ones of the most honorable shrine because of the tomb of martyr priest Kim Andreas. And after that continuously the ones of Mgr. Ferreol who contributed decisively the 82 Korean martyrs' declaration of Venerables and Rev. Gang Do-yeong who made mirinae Holy Place by 33 year’s devotion also came to here, so the meaning of reverence was more strengthened and enlarged. Moreover the anonymous tombs moved to this place makes us pilgrims glance over the history of Korean church and the streams of reverence for martyrs, therefore Mirinae shrine became the representative holy place and became the most important origin of reverence for martyr in Korea.
