        유전율 이방성이 양인 액정을 이용한 Fringe-Field Driven 수평 배향셀의 위상지연값 연구

        We have studied the optimal phase retardation value of a homogeneously aligned liquid crystal (LC) driven by fringe-field when using the LC with positive dielectric anisotropy. In general, the transmittance of a homogeneous aligned LC cell under crossed polarizer is maximum when a twist angle of LC by in-plane rotation is 45$^{\circ}$ with polarizer and the cell retardation becomes λ/2. However, the device using the LC with positive dielectric anisotropy does not follow this since the degree of rotation of the LC is dependent on electrode position and in addition the LCs tilt up along the fringe-field. At the center of common and pixel electrode, the LC is most twisted around a middle position of a cell whereas at the edge position of pixel electrode, the LC is most twisted near bottom surface of a cell. Consequently, the optimal phase retardation of the device becomes much larger than λ/2 and the transmittance can be described using the combination of the in-plane switching and twisted nematic mode.

        유전율 이방성의 음인 액정을 이용한 Fringe-Field Switching mode의 cell gap 변화에 따른 전기광학 특성

        The FFS (fringe-field switching) mode was known to exhibit both a wide viewing angle and high transmittance, especially when using a liquid crystal with negative dielectric anisotropy. We have studied cell gap-dependent electrode-optic characteristics of the FFS mode using the LC with negative dielectric anisotropy. In case of a small cell gap of 2 ${\mu}$m, the transmittance at the center of pixel and common electrodes is relatively low because effect of surface anchoring that holds the LC to the initial state is larger than that in a large cell gap of 4 .urn such that the LCs in those regions cannot rotate enough. However, in case of a large cell gap of 4 .urn, the effect of surface anchoring becomes relatively small so that the LCs at the center of pixel and common electrode can be twisted enough by applied voltage, giving rise to high transmittance. Therefore, we can conclude that the light efficiency is dependent on the cell gap.

        Edge effects confirmed at the clear-cut area of Korean red pine forest in Uljin, eastern Korea

        Background: Forest edges create distinctive ecological space as adjacent constituents, which distinguish between different ecosystems or land use types. These edges are made by anthropogenic or natural disturbance and affects both abiotic and biotic factors gradually. This study was carried out to assess edge effects on disturbed landscape at the pine-dominated clear-cut area in a genetic resources reserve in Uljin-gun, eastern Korea. This study aims to estimate the distance of edge influence by analyzing changes of abiotic and biotic factors along the distance from forest edge. Further, we recommend forest management strategy for sustaining healthy forest landscapes by reducing effects of deforestation. Results: Distance of edge effect based on the abiotic factors varied from 8.2 to 33.0 m. The distances were the longest in Mg2+ content and total nitrogen, K+, Ca2+ contents, canopy openness, light intensity, air humidity, Na+ content, and soil temperature followed. The result based on biotic factors varied from 6.8 to 29.5 m, coverage of tree species in the herb layer showed the longest distance and coverage of shrub plant in the herb layer, evenness, species diversity, total coverage of herb layer, and species richness followed. As the result of calculation of edge effect by synthesizing 26 factors measured in this study, the effect was shown from 11.0 m of the forest interior to 22.4 m of the open space. In the result of stand ordination, Rhododendron mucronulatum, R. schlippenbachii, and Fraxinus sieboldiana dominated arrangement of forest interior sites and Quercus mongolica, Vitis amurensis, and Rubus crataegifolius dominated spatial distribution of the open area plots. Conclusions: Forest interior habitat lies within the influence of both abiotic and biotic edge effects. Therefore, we need a forest management strategy to sustain the stability of the plant and further animal communities that depend on its stable conditions. For protecting forest interior, we recommend selective logging as a harvesting method for minimizing edge effects by anthropogenic disturbance. In fact, it was known that selective logging contributes to control light availability and wind regime, which are key factors affecting microclimate. In addition, ecological restoration applying protective planting for the remaining forest in the clear-cut area could contribute to prevent continuous disturbance in forest interior.

        Recent Advances in CRISPR-Cas Technologies for Synthetic Biology

        With developments in synthetic biology, “engineering biology” has emerged through standardization and platformization based on hierarchical, orthogonal, and modularized biological systems. Genome engineering is necessary to manufacture and design synthetic cells with desired functions by using bioparts obtained from sequence databases. Among various tools, the CRISPR-Cas system is modularly composed of guide RNA and Cas nuclease; therefore, it is convenient for editing the genome freely. Recently, various strategies have been developed to accurately edit the genome at a single nucleotide level. Furthermore, CRISPR-Cas technology has been extended to molecular diagnostics for nucleic acids and detection of pathogens, including disease-causing viruses. Moreover, CRISPR technology, which can precisely control the expression of specific genes in cells, is evolving to find the target of metabolic biotechnology. In this review, we summarize the status of various CRISPR technologies that can be applied to synthetic biology and discuss the development of synthetic biology combined with CRISPR technology in microbiology.

        과학영재 학생들의 과학 메타모델링 지식(MMK) 수준 및 MMK 수준과 화학 학업 성취도와의 관계 분석

        이 연구는 과학 메타모델링 지식(MMK) 수준 및 MMK 수준과 화학 학업 성취도와의 관계를 알아보았다. 이를 위해 S 과학영재학교 38명을 대상으로 전기 화학과 관련된 문제 상황을 제공한 후, 학생들의 수행과 탐구 활동지를 토대로 3가지 차원(모델의 변화성, 모델의 다중성, 모델링 과정)에 대해 학생들의 MMK 수준을 진단하였다. 이후 학생들의 진단된 차원별 MMK 수준과 화학 학업 성취도와의 관계는 Kruskall-Wallis test를 통해 알아보았다. 연구결과, 모델링 과정에서 상대적으로 학생들이 높은 수준을 보였으며, 모델의 다양성에서 가장 낮은 수준을 보여 차원별로 학생들의 MMK 수준이 일정하지 않았다. MMK 수준과 학업 성취도의 관계를 알아본 결과, 모델의 변화성과 모델링 과정에서 집단의 수준이 높을수록 학업 성취도가 올라감을 통계적으로 확인할 수 있었다(p<.05). 이 연구를 통해 과학교육에서 MMK와 관련된 교육의 필요성을 엿볼 수 있었다.

      • 국내 주관적 기억장애(SMI) 연구동향 분석 : 2010~2019년을 중심으로

        본 연구는 주관적 기억장애(Subjective Memory Impairment: SMI) 환자를 대상으로 국내에 서 이루어진 연구동향을 살펴보기 위하여 2010년부터 2019년까지 최근 10년간의 연구 총 16편 을 선정하여 연도별 현황, 연구 대상, 연구 유형에 대한 내용을 분석하였다. 연도별 현황에 따라 분석한 결과, 2019년의 연구 현황이 5편으로 가장 많았고, 연구 대상을 평균 연령과 평균 교육년수에 따라 분석한 결과, 평균 연령에서 65~70세를 대상으로 한 연구가 가장 많은 비중을 차지하였고, 평균 교육년수에서 5~10년을 대상으로 한 연구가 가장 많은 것으로 나 타났다. 연구 유형에 따라 분석한 결과, 양적연구가 15편, 질적연구 1편으로 나타났다. 이러한 분석 내용들을 바탕으로 SMI 환자에 대한 국내 연구를 종합하고 이를 기초로 기존 연구의 경향을 고찰하고 향후 관련 분야의 방향을 제시하였다.

      • pH-sensitive photodynamic therapy agent for effective cancer therapy

        Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) could bring advantages for cancer therapy of various diseases. Under the laser irradiation, photosensitizer (PS) generated Reactive oxygen singlet. Then, cancer cell suffered irreversible damages. However, PDT had disadvantages such as non-specific targeting feature and poor solubility. To overcome these disadvantages, hydrophilicity and cancer specificity were added to PS. In this study, we synthesized pH responsive polymer with PS (PRPP). In the physiological vessel condition, PRPP is negatively charged, so it was stable. In contrast, the surface charge of PRPP was switched from negative to positive under tumor microenvironment resulting enhanced cell permeability. We confirmed using 1H-NMR, dynamic light scattering, fluorescence spectroscopy. In vitro pH responsive uptake was measured using confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM), flow cytometry. Therapeutic potential was confirmed using an MTT assay.

      • 집단인식체제의 인식역량과 투자 그리고 정책제언: 자동차업계의 미래차 투자를 중심으로

        Recently, the automobile industry has been encountering disruptive changes on various levels. On the one hand, there has been rising demand worldwide to increase electrified vehicle production in response to climate change. On the other hand, there are also more calls for the production of autonomous vehicles, which have already increased in numbers owing to ICT development. As a result, global automobile OEMs as well as their subcontractors are expanding R&D spending and facility investments despite the uncertainty of profitability. However, regarding the factors of investment, there are differences of opinion between two schools of thought: the standard view of economics and non-standard institutional view. According to the standard economic view such as that of Keynes’, investment is motivated by “animal spirits” or in other words, realized by the pursuit of profit. Both interest rates and anticipated return rates are critical factors in investment decision-making. When companies have to render decisions among several investment projects, marginal investment efficiency, which is decided by each project’s anticipated return rate and interest rate, becomes the main factor. On the contrary, the conventionalist from one of the institutional schools of economics thinks differently. According to this school of thought, investment is affected by the collective cognition capacity of the production system, which includes the manufacturing firm as well as the related subcontractors. In this study, we attempt to analyze the actual investment process according to the conventional school of economics view. From this perspective, economic behavior is carried out with a restrained rationality that is influenced by insufficiency and asymmetry of information. Investment behavior follows the similar process of economic behavior, which is realized under the limited information and restrained cognitive capacity. Success of investment relies on both collective cognitive capacity and differing views within and out of the firms on overall investment projects including funds, future return anticipation. Recently, KAMA conducted research on the status of investment in future vehicles actualized by Korean firms. In this study, we confirm our hypotheses by using these research results and interviews with high position CEOs of major automobile companies operating in Korea.
