        Squeak Etoys 활용 알고리즘 학습이 중학생의 문제해결력에 미치는 영향

        Many former researchers demonstrated that algorithm learning has a positive outcome on students' problem-solving abilities. One of the methods for algorithm learning, the ‘programming learning’ method is highly effective. However, there are numerous constraints in schools for programming learning. This study attempts to overcome these issues. Squeak Etoys, one of the educational visual programming languages for easy and interesting learning, has been selected as a learning tool. We developed the algorithm-learning curriculum for middle school students. They were divided into a control group and an experimental group. The students learned on the basis of equal curriculum but, they used other learning tools through over a total 6 sessions. The result showed that Squeak Etoys based Algorithm learning has a positive effect on improving middle school learners' problem solving abilities, self-efficacies and logical thinking abilities. Although the students' logical thinking abilities in the experimental group are improved a lot more than the students' abilities in control group, the students' logical think abilities in the both groups are improved. Therefore, algorithm education in secondary schools are necessary. In conclusion, Squeak Etoys based Algorithm learning has a positive effect on problem solving ability and self efficacy. The developed curriculum can be applicable as a basis for study on algorithm learning and educational programming language. 알고리즘 학습이 학습자의 창의적 문제해결력, 논리적사고력과 같은 고차원적인 인지 능력 향상에 도움이 되지만, 알고리즘 학습을 처음 접하는 어린 학습자들의 경우 인지적 부담으로 작용할 수 있다. 따라서 프로그래밍을 통한 알고리즘 학습에서 학습자의 인지적 부담을 감소시켜주고 알고리즘 학습에 대한 흥미와 동기 유발을 위한 새로운 교수 설계가 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 중학생의 알고리즘 학습을 위한 프로그래밍 도구로 비주얼 기반 교육용 프로그래밍 언어인 Squeak Etoys를 선정하고 이를 활용한 알고리즘 학습 프로그램을 설계하였다. 설계한 학습 프로그램을 실제 중학교 학습자들에게 적용한 결과, Squeak Etoys 활용 알고리즘 학습이 프로그래밍을 처음 접하는 초보 학습자들의 문제해결성향과 자기효능감, 논리적사고력 향상에 유의미한 영향을 주었음을 확인하였다. 특히 논리적사고력의 경우, 실험집단과 통제집단모두 유의미한 향상을 보였다. 이는 알고리즘을 설계하고 표현하는 과정에 대한 학습경험 자체가 논리적사고력 신장에 효과적임을 의미한다. 따라서 초·중등교육에서의 알고리즘 교육은 의미 있는 학습내용이라고 볼 수 있다. 그러나 Squeak Etoys 활용 알고리즘 학습을 진행한 집단이 통제집단에 비해 논리적사고력 향상의 정도가 유의미하게 높은 것은 Squeak Etoys와 같은 비주얼 기반 프로그래밍 학습 환경이 알고리즘 학습에 대한 외생적 인지부하를 감소시켜주고 문제해결성향 및 자기효능감에 긍정적인 영향을 줌으로써 논리적사고력과 같은 고등정신능력 향상에 도움을 준 것으로 해석할 수 있다. 이러한 연구 결과는 향후 새로운 교육과정 시행될 경우, 알고리즘 학습을 위한 교육용 프로그래밍 언어의 선정 및 교수 학습 설계에 유용한 지침을 제공해 줄 수 있을 것이다.

        In this paper, we carry out personal lessons in order to improve the problem-solving abilities of students who have a low level of university general mathematics, and find the efficient teaching method of the personal lessons by analyzing the mathematic achievement of the participating students.

        SATURATION-VALUE TOTAL VARIATION BASED COLOR IMAGE DENOISING UNDER MIXED MULTIPLICATIVE AND GAUSSIAN NOISE

        In this article, we propose a novel variational model for restoring color images corrupted by mixed multiplicative Gamma noise and additive Gaussian noise. The model in- volves a data-fidelity term that characterizes the mixed noise as an infimal convolution of two noise distributions and the saturation-value total variation (SVTV) regularization. The data- fidelity term facilitates suitable separation of the multiplicative Gamma and Gaussian noise components, promoting simultaneous elimination of the mixed noise. Furthermore, the SVTV regularization enables adequate denoising of homogeneous regions, while maintaining edges and details and diminishing the color artifacts induced by noise. To solve the proposed noncon- vex model, we exploit an alternating minimization approach, and then the alternating direction method of multipliers is adopted for solving subproblems. This contributes to an efficient itera- tive algorithm. The experimental results demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed model compared to other existing or related models, with regard to visual inspection and image quality measurements.

        Mycobacterium intracellurare에 의한 뇌농양 1예

        Mycobacterium avium intracellulare complex (MAC) usually causes an opportunistic pulmonary infection in immunocompromised hosts who have underlying structural lung disease. Central nervous system infection due to MAC is very rare even in an immunocompromised host. Most previous reports of central nervous system infection due to MAC have been meningoencephalitis in patients infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Only four cases of brain abscess due to MAC have been reported worldwide. We report a case of brain abscess due to MAC in a non-HIV patient. Although drugs used for treatment of MAC have limited central nervous penetration, an azithromycin-based antituberculous therapy after surgical drainage of the abscess showed improvement. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first reported case of MAC brain abscess in the Korean literature. Key Words: Mycobacterium

        Anti‐obesity effect of Allomyrina dichotoma (Arthropoda: Insecta) larvae ethanol extract on 3T3‐L1 adipocyte differentiation

        Although Korean horn beetle (Allomyrina dichotoma) larvae have been long used as an oriental medicine for the treatment of liver diseases in Korea, there is little scientific evidence of their effects. In this study, we investigated the anti‐obesity activity of A. dichotoma larvae extract (ADE) by using 3T3‐L1 cells as an in vitro model of adipogenesis. To analyze its role as an inhibitor of adipogenesis, 3T3‐L1 cells were treated with both ADE and differentiation inducer (DM) at the same time, and then the amount of lipid was quantified. We then analyzed the mRNA and protein expression level of adipogenic or lipogenic genes. The results showed that formation of lipid droplets in differentiated 3T3‐L1 cells was markedly decreased, and triglyceride content was reduced by 22.15% in response to 2000 μg/mL ADE. In addition, ADE downregulated mRNA and protein expression of transcription factors peroxisome proliferator‐activated receptor (PPAR)‐γ and CCAAT/enhancer binding protein (C/EBP)‐α implicated in adipogenesis, and significantly decreased the expression levels of adipocyte fatty acid binding protein (aP2), fatty acid synthase (FAS), stearoyl‐coenzyme desaturase‐1 (SCD1), and lipoprotein lipase (LPL) related to lipogenesis. Our results demonstrate that ADE suppressed adipogenesis and lipogenesis in 3T3‐L1 cells, suggesting that ADE has anti‐obesity activity as a food supplement.

        A Case of Colonic Mucinous Adenocarcinoma in 19-year-old Male Patient

        Colorectal cancer is rare in teenagers, especially without known risk factors. Colon cancer in young age is more likely to be diagnosed at advanced-stage, to present unfavorable tumor histology such as mucinous carcinoma, and poor outcome. We report a case of sporadic mucinous adenocarcinoma of the colon in a 19-year-old male patient without any risk factors. He complained of severe left abdominal pain that developed 1 month ago. He had a distended abdomen with severe tenderness on the left lower quadrant. A distal descending colon mass causing mechanical obstruction was observed on abdominal computed tomography. Emergency colonoscopy showed a large, fungating mass obstructing the lumen at 40 cm from the anal verge. Biopsy of the colonic mass suggested a mucinous adenocarcinoma. After decompression by colonic stent, the patient was transferred to the general surgery department for left hemicolectomy. The lesion was confirmed to be a mucinous adenocarcinoma (7.0×4.5 cm). For hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer evaluation, immunohistochemical staining for MLH1 and MSH2 was normal. Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction analysis did not detect microinstability in any of the markers tested. The patient had no familial history of cancer. Mucinous adenocarcinoma has high frequencies of poor differentiation, advanced tumor stage, loss of mismatch repair gene expression, and increased MUC2 expression. A mucinous histology is considerably more frequent in children and adolescent than in adults. Adequate invasive study is also necessary for young age patients.
