One of the most important aspects to succeed in character industry is to develop a character that it can sensibly satisfy customers. For this, sensibility evaluation has to be carried character design have to be analyzed, firstly. In this study, sensibility evaluation using multi-variate analysis was performed for some humanized characters. From the factor analysis, sensibility factors were extracted and sensibility characteristics for characters were analyzed by those factors. Preference for those characters was evaluated and was analyzed in relation to those sensibility characteristics. Finally, a direction of character design was proposed from those results.

보행보조차와 욕창방지 매트리스를 포함하는 고령친화제품의 사용빈도는 고령자 인구의 증가에 의하여 높아지고 있다. 고령자의 경우, 인간공학적으로 잘못 디자인된 제품을 사용하는 경우 사용성 측면에서의 문제뿐만 아니라 안전성 측면에서도 심각한 문제를 야기할 수 있다. 고령자 사고의 상당부분은 고령친화제품을 사용하는 과정에서 발생한다. 본 연구에서는 고령친화제품을 사용할 때의 고령자의 사용성에 대하여 산학협력을 통하여 연구하였다. 사용성 평가 프로그램이 고령친화제품을 개발하거나 제조하는 기업을 지원하기 위하여 개발되었고, 보행보조차와 욕창방지 매트리스에 대한 사용성이 평가되었으며 그 결과가 기업에 제공되었다. In these days, the frequency in use of senior friendly products including walker, mattress preventing bedsore, etc. is going up by an increase in the elderly population. In the case of the elderly, bad ergonomic design causes some problems in the aspects of usability and safety. In fact, lots of accidents came from using senior friendly products. In this paper, older adults` usability when using senior friendly products was studied through industry-university collaboration. Usability evaluation program was developed to support companies that develop or manufacture a senior-friendly product. Walker and mattress preventing bedsore were evaluated in aspect of its usability and the result were provided to the company.

Objective: This study was carried out to identify the effect of turning effect on the operating feel of jog dial and propose the design guide of turning effect. Background: Sensibility is considered important in car design. Jog dial is one of the most important human-machine interfaces in car. Therefore, various studies are needed on the sensibility of jog dial. Method: Three experiments were carried out for this study. The first experiment was to identify the preferable knob height of jog dial. The second experiment was to identify the effect of turning effect for the operating feel of jog dial. The third experiment was to identify the just noticeable difference of the turning effect of jog dial. Some experimental models such as jog dial were made for the experiments and finger pressures were measured when operating jog dial. The operating feel of jog dial was subjectively evaluated after the experiment. Results: Turning effect did significantly affect the operating feel of jog dial at the 0.05 level. The operating feel was highest in turning effect of 3Ncm and just noticeable difference for the turning effect was 0.6Ncm. The relationship between turning effect and operating feel showed negative correlation. The pressure of thumb and index finger is higher than middle finger when operating jog dial. Conclusion: From the result, the turning effect of 3Ncm (±0.6N㎝) is suitable to provide high operating feel when operating a jog dial. Application: The results of this study can be applied to the design of jog dial in car.

In this research, three topics were studied for the elderly. The first was the elderly's error characteristics for tracing task and the second was for depth perception. The characteristics were compared with the young's. Twenty two old people and twenty two young people participated in the tracing experiment, respectively. In the depth perception experiment, twenty three old people and twenty two young people participated. A depth perception apparatus and a tracing one were used in the experiment. In the depth perception error, a significant difference was not detected on gender. However significant differences were detected with age and viewing distance. In the tracing error, significant difference was detected with age, also. The third experiment was push-button operation and fifteen old people participated in the experiment. As the result, operation time error was increased with the button size and the moving distance. The result of this study will be able to be considered in its user interface design to reduce the elderly's error while using a product.

In this study, user survey and some experiments were caITied out to identify older adults' characteristics and needs for shower chair design. Firstly, the category and design components of shower chair were analyzed through product analysis. Secondly, older adults' needs for shower chair were identified through user interview and observation. Thirdly, experiment to measure older adults' motion, EMG, and body pressure while using shower chair was carried out and then older adults' characteristics for the use of shower chair were identified. Finally, the direction of design for shower chair was proposed to improve older adults' satisfaction.
