Pretibial ganglion cyst after arthroscopic anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction is a very rare complication, and a few are reported in and outside the country. Some authors report that it may break out with a variety of causes at any time. We experienced a case of pretibial ganglion cyst after arthroscopic anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction using Achilles tendon allograft and bioabsorbable interference screw in 34-year-old male. So we report this case including the cause and the treatment with a review of the literature.

Sol-Gel Deposited LaZrOx Buffer Layer for Ferroelectric Thin Films

To investigate the possibility of LaZrO$_{x}$ thin film as a buffer insulator for ferroelectric thin films, we fabricated (Bi,La)$_{4}$Ti$_{3}$O$_{12}$ (BLT) ferroelectric films on a silicon substrate by using the LaZrO$_{x}$ buffer insulator in forming the metal-ferroelectric-insulator-semiconductor (MFIS) structure. We prepared the LaZrO$_{x}$ thin film and BLT films by using a sol-gel method. The films were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, atomic force microscopy (AFM), capacitance-voltage (C-V) characteristics, and leakage current density-voltage (J-V) characteristics for both LaZrO$_{x}$/Si and BLT/LaZrO$_{x}$/Si structures. From C-V measurement results, equivalent oxide thickness (EOT) values of LaZrO$_{x}$ thin films annealed at 700 $^{\circ}\mathrm{C}$ and 800 $^{\circ}\mathrm{C}$ were about 9 nm and 10 nm, respectively. Negligibly small hysteresis loops were observed for both LaZrO$_{x}$/Si structures. The leakage current density at an applied voltage of 5 V was lower than 1.0 $\times$ 10$^{-7}$ A/cm$^{2}$ for all samples. For the case of the BLT/LaZrO$_{x}$/Si structure, we obtained randomly oriented polycrystalline BLT films. From the C-V measurements, clockwise ferroelectric hysteresis loops were observed and the memory window width became larger as the bias voltage sweep increased from ${\pm}$3 V to ${\pm}$9 V. The memory window width was about 1.0 V for bias voltage sweep of ${\pm}$7 V. The leakage current density was lower than 1.0 $\times$ 10$^{-6}$ A/cm$^{2}$ at 10 V.

Nodular faciitis is generally considered to be benign proliferation of fibroblasts and myoblasts, and it measures dimension up to 3cm. The characteristics such as rapid growth, abundant cellularity, and mitotic activity occasionally cause these lesions to mimic sarcoma. The authors experienced two cases of nodular fasciitis of the thigh, which were unusually large with dimension of more than 5cm. All of these two cases mimicked sarcoma and one of two cases, which initially mimicked sarcoma clinically and histologically in our hospital, was finally diagnosed as nodular fasciitis after requesting external consultation to several experienced pathologists. All of two cases had no evidence of recurrence at 2 years postoperatively. The lesions of unusually large dimension such as in our cases must be included in the differential diagnosis of soft tissue sarcoma. So we report two cases of nodular fasciitis of the thigh with a review of the current literature.

만성 족근 관절 외측 불안정성 환자에서 $Brostr{\ddot{o}}m$ 변형 술식의 치료 결과

Purpose: This study was performed to evaluate clinical and radiographical results of treatment of chronic lateral ankle instability with modified Brostrom procedure. Materials and Methods: This is a retrospective study of 22 cases in 22 patients treated with modified $Brostr{\ddot{o}}m$ procedure under the diagnosis of chronic lateral ankle instability from May 2000 to August 2004. Average age was 32.3 years. Average follow-up period was 23 months. Preoperative and postoperative radiographs of ankle anteroposterior view, lateral view and varus stress view were analyzed. The clinical evaluation was performed according to the Americal Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society scales. Results: After the modified $Brostr{\ddot{o}}m$ procedure, Americal Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society scales score was improved by average 28 points. Among the 22 cases, 13 cases were excellent, 3 cases good, 4 cases fair, and 2 cases poor with satisfaction of 73%. Five cases had intermittent ankle pain of whom 3 cases had difficulty during competitive sports activity. Lateral tilting of talus improved by average 5.4 degrees on varus stress view. Conclusions: The modified $Brostr{\ddot{o}}m$ procedure is one of the most effective methods for treating of chronic lateral ankle instability.

Wiring techniques in the fixation of patellar fracture are commonly used. Rigid fixation is essential for early rehabilitation. Breakages of wires after the fixation of patellar fracture are common with extracapsular migration if not removed for long term. But, we experienced a case of patellar fracture with early breakage of wiring and migration of the broken wire fragment into the popliteal fossa through the popliteal hiatus in 64- year-old man and we successfully treated this case, using both arthroscopic and open procedures. So we report this unusual case with a review of current literatures.

At the posterior aspect of distal thigh, major nerves, vessels, muscles and tendons were located. So, if abscess occurs within deep muscular fascia of posterior aspect of distal thigh, it can be widely and deeply spread to proximal thigh, popliteal fossa, posterior proximal leg, surrounding areas of knee joint along deep fascia, muscles and tendons. In that case, it is difficult to eradicate the abscess using antibiotics without surgical drainage and debridement. But, it is often impossible to obtain satisfactory view of operative field with conventional technique and critical damage to major nerves and vessels in the popliteal fossa during operation may occur. We performed endoscopic treatment for extensive deep abscesses occurred in posterior aspect of distal thigh in 64-year-old man, and obtained satisfactory result without injury to the normal structures including major nerves and vessels. So we report this case with a review of relevant literatures.

For the treatment of deep extensive abscess, the incision and drainage is necessary. But in order to make a thorough incisional drainage we can't avoid the skin incision enlarged. Even if the incision is enlarged, it is often impossible to obtain a satisfactory view of operative field. Also, the additional damage to surrounding normal tissue during operation and the scars made by large incision may be problematic. To solve these problems, we performed the endoscopic treatment for extensive deep abscesses occurred in hematoma after rupture of gastrocnemius muscle and obtained the satisfactory results. It has not been previously described, so we report it with a review of the literature.

Effects of Annealing on the Electrical Properties of the BLT/STA/Si Structure for Ferroelectric-Gate Field-Effect Transistors

We investigated the eects of annealing on the ferroelectric characteristics of (Bi,La)4Ti3O12 (BLT) .lms deposited on Si(100) substrates with a 25-nm-thick SrTa2O6 (STA) buer layer. The STA thin .lm annealed at 900 ±C for 3 minutes showed a 5.7-nm equivalent oxide thickness (EOT). The XRD analysis indicated that BLT .lms deposited on STA/Si structures had a polycrystalline phase with a preferred (117) orientation. The crystallinity was improved at higher temperatures. The capacitance-voltage (C-V) measurements revealed that the Au/BLT/STA/Si structures showed good ferroelectric properties and that the memory window width became larger as the annealing temperature was increased. For the BLT/STA/Si structures annealed at 750 ±C, the memory window width was about 1.5 V for a bias voltage sweep of §5 V. The leakage current density was lower than 1 ￡ 10¡7 A/cm2 at 5 V. The data retention time of this structure was found to be longer than 15 hours.
