        본연표는 본교대학원 영어학연구실에서 작성하였고 시대구분이나 그 시대의 특성은 연표관계로 성약하였고 지면관계로 20세기 학문활동에 관한 사항도 많이 줄였다. 본연구에 협륵한 대학원생은 평종회, 이순열, 이상국이다. 600 B.C. Celts의 영국 이주 유럽 대륙에서 목축생활을 영위허던 호전적인 Celts가 England와 Ireland로 이주하면서 선주민족인 Iberia인을 몰아내기 시작했다.

        A Syntactic Analysis of Passive Forms with Modifiers (Ⅰ)

        The method I have used here has been to record all the forms that appear in thirty-one short stories and then to group them in ccordance with their grammatical forms. Statistical study of the occurrence of active and passive forms in the limited materials shows that the passive forms are used not as a matter of the author's taste but as a consequence of the contents of his work. Certain words, phrases and modifiers cluster around the passive form. The position of the modifiers can be classified into three types: post-posted modifiers, pre-posted modifiers, and interjected modifiers. In analysing the modifiers of the passive form we consider the prepositional phrases which are post-posted modifiers to the passive form. When the post-posted modifiers begin with prepositions, two-way classification can be made-into free form and bound from. The free form stands independently but the bound form does not. Four additional items of analysis in connection with passive forms will be discussed in the next issue.

        A. The frequency of the use of active forms is higher than that of passive forms. The investigation shows that the passive forms are used not as a matter of the writer's taste but as a consequence of the contents of his work. B. Modifiers of passive forms include are many prepositional phrases such as by-phrases, to-phrases in-phrases. This would seem to indicate that very often passive forms do not convey the characteristic of passive verbs. C. Common nouns are usually used as the subjects of passive verbs. You and we are not used as much as I and he. D. In most cases of passive forms it is an ordinary occurrence for a few sentences to allow function words to intervene between the verb be and past participle. E. In connection with the tense the past tense is more common than that of future and present. F. The list of passive verbs is shown in order to define the pattern of occurrence of passive forms.

        韓英兩語의 表現構造에 나타난 思考의 特性

        The life and thoughts in any language activity are important in the sense of its cultural aspects. Although the traditional concepts cherished by a nation are unscientific and illogical, they nevertheless dominate the thoughts of a man. In order to support the dominance of language, I have quoted from dialogues from short stories in both English and Korean, indicating the universal and the peculiar of thoughts. Under these suppositions, the following discoveries are consolidated. In the relativism of life and thoughts appearing in the structures of language are: (1) that the characteristics of any heterogenious culture are most vividly shown, (2) that misuses of words are, among others, the most prevalent phenomenon in the field of mistranslation, (3) that the power of traditional ways of thinking and thoughts underlying the cultures of both East and West is easily discovered in the language activity, although the discussions here are limited exclusively to such languages as English and Korean.

        소나무림 생장에 영향을 미치는 미기상 특성에 관한 연구

        본 연구는 백두대간 소나무림의 생장 변화를 관찰하기 위해 연륜생장과 미기상 요소와의 관계를 분석하였다. 백두대간 소나무림 분포지역과 기후변화의 영향이 나타나는 난대림지역에 대조구로 설정하여 미기상 측정을 위해 기온, 지온을 측정할 수 있는 데이터 로거(HOBO Micro station, Oneset)를 설치하여 측정하였고, 5개 지역에서 25본 연륜을 채취하여 미기상인자와 상관분석을 실시하였다. 거제 지역에서 기온과 연륜간의 상관관계 가 부의 상관관계를 나타내어 기온이 상대적으로 높은 지역에서 연륜생장의 감소경향을 알 수 있다. 본 연구는 기후변화에 따른 소나무림 연륜생장 변화 예측에 필요한 정보로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다. This study, in order to observe the change of the growth of Baekdudaegan Pinus densiflora forest, analyzed the relation between growth of the annual rings and micrometeorology conditions. A data logger (HOBO Micro station) capable of measuring temperature and soil temperature for micrometeorology conditions set in the Baekdudaegan Pinus densiflora forest was set up and twenty five annual rings were collected in five areas and correlation analysis was performed with micrometeorology conditions. The correlation between temperature and annual rings shows a negative correlation in the Namwon and it is possible to know the decreasing trend of annual ring growth in areas where the temperature is relatively high. The results of this study are expected to provide valuable information necessary for predicting changes in radial growth of Pinus densiflora and caused by climate change.

        中登 英語敎科書에 收錄된 語彙 檢討 : 主로 第一學年 敎科書 單語를 中心으로

        In addition to several books of English composition and grammar, there are twenty six diffrent kinds of English readers compiled for the use of middle school students in Korea. According to the syllabus of English education promulgated in 1955, all the English readers have been published with the approval of the Minister of Education. Many English teachers who have used the new textbooks published in 1956 have pointed out that they were inadequate. On the assumption that the quality of these textbooks should be examined, this paper is an attempt to investigate the words listed in each textbook and to find out the word frequency in them. Although scientific analysis and discussions of textbooks require many shades of investigation, word frequencies are also one of the important elememts in editing textbooks. After carefully inspecting the six tables. I have come to certain conclusions, and I wish to make a suggestion for the improvement of English textbooks. Although the number of words to teach in the 1st year of middle school is 400 according to the syllabus of English education, most authors of textbooks have neglected this figure. And there is such a amall number of words used in common in these textbooks, that the students will be faced with great difficulty in learning English when they transfer from one school to another or change their textbooks. On the assumption that the words from Thorndike and Lorge's Word Book and from Basic English are most useful and practical, approximately half of the words appearing in all these textbooks are not suitable words for the beginning student of English. Therefore, it is necessary to select the words for the textbook writers on the basic of scientific methods and furthermore that some way be found to ensure observance of this selection. For the purpose of compiling English textbooks and improving English education it is urgently required that the frequency of words, as well as the selection of words, should be carefully taken into account as many linguistics have already suggested.
