Using a hollow fiber membrane contactor in which absorbent was circulating through the absorption and desorption modules, the separation efficiency of carbon dioxide was investigated with the change of various experimental factors. Feed gas and chemical absorbent used in the study were CO₂/N₂mixture and K₂CO₃ aqueous solution, respectively. For the absorption experiment using an absorption module, permeation rate and removal efficiency of CO₂ increased with flow rate of absorbent. However, the removal efficiency decreased while permeation rate increased with flow rate of feed gas. For the circulatory hollow fiber membrane contactor (CHFMC), both the pemeation rate and removal efficiency increased with the flow rate of absorbent to certain level, but beyond that, they decreased. This kind of result is quite different from the case of absorption experiment and it is due to the insufficient desorption of the CO₂ caused by the rather short staying time of the solution in the desorption module.
