The goal of this study is to approach the theme of God in the imaginary universe of Victor Hugo. The theme of God is present alongside his life and his works: since the beginning of his literary career, the problem of evil tormented him, and it inevitability drove him to struggle with the origin of life and death, finally to the mystery of God. A lot of ink has flown on the subject of the religion and the image of God with Hugo, but nothing is definite, all is opened until now : for one, he is a Catholic, for the other, a pantheist. But what is essential according to us is that he believes in God : as a table implies his author, this world has someone who made it. God. In other words, Hugo believes in God : his God is, above all, Creator. Eternal and Perfect. He is Pure Spirit and create all from nothing. But what attracts our attention in his theory is the presence of the eye of God. By the act of seeing, God create. Thus God-Creator is God-seer. And as He is everywhere and always, He sees all and knows all, and He can do all. Therefore, He judges creatures. All his life, Hugo fought the religions and the atheisme in the name of true God : because the religion is only the eye-glasses that can help man see God more clearly. While believing in God. Hugo wanted to show to the unfortunate and the poor the hope and the justice in life.
