Foehn damage on rice plant is one of the important abiotic stresses in eastern costal area of Korea. Although foehn dam-age on rice plant is not frequently occurred, once it happened, the damage is serious to the affected rice field. To investigate rela-tionship between foehn tolerance and glume hairiness, two rice varietal groups classified with hairs on rice glume and three BC2F4back cross progenies obtained from Joseangtongil Hg2, Seolagbyeo Hg/Hwaseongbyeo*2, and Seolagbyeo Hg/Hwayeongbyeo*2 were used for wind tunnel treatment. The varietal group having long and many hairs on rice glume showed vari-ous foehn tolerance level from tolerance to susceptibility while the other varietal group showed susceptible to foehn. In the BC2F4progenies backcrossed with foehn susceptible varieties to Hg donor parents, rice plants having similar Hg degree to donor parentsshowed higher tolerant level than recurrent parents. Correlation coefficients between Hg degree level and white head ratio werehighly significant as 0.76**, 0.61**, and 0.87** in three populations, respectively.
