Vol.23 No.-
Modern globalism in the 21st century, has been rapidly progressed showing complicated properties of duality and epoch-making development while going through blending, reiterating, losing, deforming ethnic and racial originality of each nation, territory and area. Korea, situated at the center of fast economic growth, became a starting point to lead diverse changes and maturity throughout overall lifestyles including culture, consciousness and behaviors. Food and drinking culture is also carried on as aesthetic awareness at the transfer from traditional to modern times while diversity and traditional originality are mixed and coexisted. The study classifies the prizewinning artworks at Toya Tableware Festival (2004-2007), the exhibition of food and drinking contents of Korea, into sets of tableware, liquor tables, and refreshment tables respectively, and considers features of methods of expression in floral art and design, connecting them with beauties of nature, moderation, forms, and elegance, as follows. First, beauty of nature has been reviewed considering the order of vividness of nature that creates and fosters everything. Each table setting has been made most suitable for intended environment with round, vertical, horizontal views and overhead view, showing vividness from both sides of the table, its center place and public space. It has been mostly shown in meal table setting and refreshment table setting. Second, beauty of moderation refers to contemplation of thrifty spirit giving emphasis upon forsaking rather than taking. With horizontal view upon one-branch flower of flower plant, and object-centered flower stalk, it has been represented in a simple and brief way, in all directions on meal table and liquor table, on their both sides of the table (straight line/oblique line), one side of the table, wall space, central space, and both central space. Third, beauty of forms has been expressed in vividness and rhythmic sense created from various changes or transformation of natural materials at hierarchical beauty in ordered relation. For floral art and design at table setting, a flower plant has been expressed in various viewpoints including overhead view, horizontal view and worm`s eye view. It has been used at a liquor table and a meal table, and their side, both sides, and outer ring are harmonious with wall space. Fourth, beauty of elegance has been shown in various combination and transformation of materials, free from formality or regularity, expressing out-of-forms including different forms or non-forms. Its viewpoint focuses on both sides, central space, outer ring of the table from the horizontal view and overhead view, and deviation from central space and private area in all directions, creating non-regular formative beauty. It has been mainly used in meal table and liquor table. It has thus revealed that the style of the floral art and design at Korean-style table setting has been expressed with archetype factors, as aesthetic awareness of traditional aesthetic view. Accordingly, the study comes up with a new guideline to generalize aesthetic sense in a modern way, in terms of modern sense of cultural, racial, traditional features that put together at diversified spaces.

This study was carried out to investigate the flora of six islands belonging to the Gogunsan Archipelago (i.e.,Sinsi-do, Seonyu-do, Munyeo-do, Yami-do, Bian-do, and Duri-do) in the Korean Peninsula. As results of five field surveys from March to October of 2016, we have identified 575 total taxa, representing 527 species, five subspecies, 42 varieties, and one hybrid, placed in 358 genera and 118 families. Of these 575 taxa, four are endemic to Korea, six taxa are listed on the Korean Red List of threatened species, 67 are floristic regional indicator plants, and 74 are invasive alien species. In this study, we compared species richness among the islands, and find that the larger the islands, the higher the species richness. In the case of habitat affinity types, forest species were most common, followed by farmland, seacoast, bare ground and wetland species. From similarity analyses based on the composition of vascular plants, each island did not exhibit either local specificity or unique diversity. On the contrary, the proportion of invasive alien and ruderal species may increase by human activities. Investigations and analyses of island flora such as this are important to assess the current status of the flora, predict future vegetation patterns and the spread of the alien species, and establish managment plans of plant diversity.
