(연구배경 및 목적)생활방식의 다양화에 따른 여가 증대 등 사람들의 생활양식 변화로 인해 도서관의 다양한 역할과 노력을 더 필요로 하고 있는 상황이다. 이로 인해 도서관은 이용자들에게 수준 높은 서비스와 다양한 정보를 제공하기 위해 1998년부터 2000년까지 문화관광부(현 문화체육관광부)에 의해 특화 도서관 사업이 나타났다. 그러나 지속적인 지원이 부족하고 후속적 사업으로 연결이 되지 않아 2002년 특화 도서관 사업이 중단되었다. 그럼에도 불구하고 현재까지 도서관들은 특화 주제를 지정하여 특화 도서관으로써 활발히 운영하고 있으나 관련 연구는 부족한 상태이다. 이에 본 연구의 목적은 특화 도서관을 사례중심으로 공간을 분석하여 향후 연구의 기초적 자료를 구축하는데 있다. (연구방법)본 연구는 특화 도서관의 이해를 돕기 위해 관련 선행연구와 문헌자료들을 살펴본 다음 사례 중심으로 분석 연구가 이루어진다. 첫 번째, 분석 대상 특화 공간의 성격을 알아보기 위해 특화 도서관의 공간 구성 요소를 구축하여 분석 대상 특화 공간의 구성 요소를 분석한다. 두 번째, 분석 대상 특화 공간의 면적에 따른 중요도를 알아보기 위해 특화 도서관 내 일반 자료실의 면적 비와 특화 공간의 면적 비를 비교하여 분석한다. 세 번째, 분석 대상 특화 공간의 건물 형태와 특화 공간의 형태를 도식화하여 그 특성을 분석한다. (결과)특화 공간의 성격을 알아보기 위한 분석을 통해 2002년 이전의 특화 공간은 도서/열람 공간을 운영하였으며, 2002년 이후 특화 공간은 도서/열람을 바탕으로 전시/공연과 체험의 성격을 갖는 공간을 운영하고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 특화 공간의 면적에 따른 중요도를 알아보기 위한 분석을 통해 2002년 이전과 이후 특화 공간은 일반자료실의 약 1/6 면적으로 과거와 비교하였을 때 제자리 상태로 중요도 또한 예전 그대로임을 알 수 있었다. 특화 공간의 건물 형태와 특화 공간의 형태 분석을 통해 2002년 이전 특화 공간의 건물 형태는 일체형이 4개관, 분리형이 1개관이며, 특화 공간 형태는 분리형이 4개관, 일체 속 분리형이 1개관이다. 2002년 이후 특화 공간의 건물 형태는 5개관 모두가 일체형이었으며, 특화 공간 형태는 일체형이 4개관, 분리형이 4개관임을 알 수 있었다. (결론)본 연구를 통해 특화 도서관이 다양한 특화 주제를 지정하여 개관하며 활발히 운영 중임을 알 수 있다. 하지만 우리나라의 특화 도서관은 아직 많이 미흡한 상황이며, 그에 따라 특화 도서관에 관한 연구의 지속화가 진행되어 더욱 발전에 도모해야 한다. 따라서 특화 도서관의 정책 및 서비스 연구뿐만 아니라 특화 공간에 대한 후속연구가 필요할 것으로 판단된다. (Background and Purpose)Due to the changes of people``s lifestyles such as leisure increase followed by the variety of lifestyles, different roles and efforts of libraries are more required. Accordingly, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism (now, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) had progressed a specialized library project from 1998 to 2000 in order to provide a variety of information as well as high-quality services for library users. However, since there were no sufficient consistent support and succeeding projects, the specialized library project was suspended in 2002. Nevertheless, libraries have been operating so far as specialized libraries by designating specialized topics but related studies are still insufficient. Therefore, this study aims at analyzing space with a focus on specialized libraries and building basic data for the future research. (Method)This study examines preceding studies and literature and proceeds with analysis focusing on following cases. First, in order to review the character of the specialized space of the analysis target, the space components of the specialized libraries are constructed and the components of the specialized space of the analysis target are analyzed. Secondly, to examine the importance according to the space of the specialized space to be analyzed, the proportion of area of general reference room in specialized libraries, and the proportion of specialized space are compared and analyzed. Third, the building types of the specialized space of the analysis target and specialized space types are schematize to analyze their characteristics. (Results)Through the analysis to examine the character of the specialized space, it was found that specialized space before 2002 was operated for book/reading space, and specialized space has been operated for the space with the characters of exhibition/performance and experience based on book/reading since 2002.When the comparison of specialized space before and after 2000 was performed with around one-sixth area of the general reference room through the analysis to review the importance according to the area of space, it has been in a standstill and the importance also did not change. The analysis of the form of the buildings and the forms of specialized space reveals that the building forms of specialized space before 2002 were 4 unified buildings, and 1 separate building, and especially, there are 4 separate spaces and 1 separate space within unified building for the form of specialized space. After 2002, the building for of specialized space had been unified form for the 5 buildings, and the form of specialized space is 4 unified spaces, and 4 separate space. (Conclusions)It was concluded by this study that specialized libraries open by designating specialized subjects and are in active operation. However, South Korea``s specialized libraries are still largely insufficient, and the research of specialized libraries must be continued, contributing to more development. Therefore, follow-up research on specialized space is needed in addition to the research on policy and services of specialized libraries.
