학위논문 어떻게 할 것인가 ?

사회자 반갑습니다. 제 5회 토론마당을 맞이하여 궂은 날씨에도 불구하고 먼길을 달려오신 여러분들과, 특히 저희들의 초청에 흔쾌히 응해주신 김용근 교수님께 진심으로 감사드립니다. 오늘은 석사 3학기를 지낸 네 명의 대학원생들이 학위논문의 일환으로 진행중인 글을 예비발표 형식으로 간략하게 발표하고, 그것을 중심으로 "학위논문 어떻게 쓸 것인가"라는 주제로 토론을 하도록 하겠습니다. 김종성, 이용재, 장덕현, 조영주씨의 학위논문 초고를 며칠 전에 나누어 드렸기 때문에 충분히 읽어보았으리라 생각합니다. 그래서 오늘은 시간을 절약하는 의미에서 이 네명의 발표자들이 자기 논문의 특징적인 부분들을 간략하게 말씀하시는 것으로 토론을 시작 하도록 하겠씁니다 우선 김종성씨부터 시작하시죠. 김종성 제 논문에 대한 개괄적인 내용이나 특징은 논문을 읽어 보시면 쉽게 파악할 수 있기 때문에 여기서는 이 논문을 쓰게 된 동기와 논문을 쓰면서 가지는 기대를 이야기하고 싶습니다. 저는 언제부터인지 정확하게 알 수는 없지만, 부산대학교도서관 장서 앞에 서면 그 장서에 대한 의구심이 강하게 생겼습니다. 이용자의 수준에 이 장서는 어느 정도 부합되는가. 그 양적 규모에 비해 질적 수준은 어느 정도 인가, 이 장서는 과연 이용자들에게 이용되는가, 꼬리에 꼬리를 물고 일어나는 장서에 대한 저의 의구심은 끝이 없었습니다. 그런 의구심은 곧바로 그 장서를 해부하고 싶은 욕망을 가지게 했고, 짧지 않은 기간의 탐색 끝에 나름대로 적절하다고 생각되는 메스를 들게 되었습니다. 그리하여 현재의 장서를 있는 그대로 살펴보고 개선을 위한 출발점을 제사하려는 생각에서 이 연구를 시작하였습니다. 그리고 이 논문의 서두에서도 언급하고 있습니다만, 기본적으로 이 논문은 현장 사서들의 모방을 기대하면서 수행되는 것입니다. 이 방법이 현재 도서관에서 취하여야 할 장서 개발 방안 으로 합당하다고 생각하며, 현장 사서들이 그 작업을 해야 한다고 봅니다. 그러나 현실적으로 사서가 그 작업을 하기에는 많은 제약이 있으며 선행연구도 없는 실정입니다. 그런 상황에서, 비록 현장에서 일을 하는 사서는 아니지만, 현장사서의 입장을 견지하려고 애쓰면서 연구를 수행한다면 사서들에게 충분히 모델로 삼을 만한 것을 제공할 수 있다고 생각하였습니다. 그리고 이 연구의 결과물보다는 그 연구방법과 과정, 그리고 문제를 바라보는 시각에 의미의 무게를 두고 싶습니다. 저는 현재의 장서개발 문제를 탈피하는 도구로 이 논문이 이용되기를 바라는 기대를 가지고 연구를 진행하고 있습니다.

일상을 통해 본 부산지역 도시 저소득층의 정보세계

This study intends to portray the everyday lives of the urban poor in Busan metro area, especially in terms of the information perspective. Employing basic qualitative data collection tools such as interviews and participant observation, the study attempts to illustrate such phenomena as information needs and behaviors, and to scrutinize the reasons of particular behaviors in information seeking and gathering. This paper, specifically, focuses on the following characteristics of information need and information-related behavior of the urban poor; types of everyday concerns and ways to cope with such concerns; types of the help providers; characteristics of information channels of everyday information seeking and information gathering. The role that interpersonal sources play in their everyday lives, has been emphasized in reality of their information environment along with information needs and information related behaviors including information gathering and information seeking. 이 연구는 부산지역에 거주하는 도시 저소득계층의 일상적 생활세계를 ‘정보’를 매개로 조망하고자 한 조사연구이다. 자료는 기초적인 설문조사와 질적 면담 및 참여관찰을 통하여 수집하고 분석하였으며, 부산지역 A, B, C지역 저소득계층이 지니고 있는 일상적 정보요구와 정보행태를 면밀하게 조사하고 분석함으로써, 우리 사회의 소수자들이 당면해 있는 정보빈곤의 실태와 이러한 현상을 초래하는 제반 요인을 파악해 보고자 하였다. 궁극적으로는 정보빈곤 현상과 정보행태의 소극성 사이의 상관관계를 검증함으로써, 도시저소득층 뿐만 아니라 노년층, 농어촌 지역 주민, 장애인 등 소외계층의 정보세계에 노정된 소외의 양상을 밝히는데 이 연구의 목적이 있다. 구체적으로 이 연구에서는 도시 저소득층의 정보요구와 정보추구행태에서 나타나는 주요 특성을 조사하기 위하여 (1) 일상적 관심사의 유형과 대처 방식, (2) 일상적 고민을 해결하기 위해 도움을 청하는 대상, (3) 일상의 영위를 위해 필요로 하는 정보를 얻기 위하여 그들이 이용하는 매체의 유형과 특성 등의 범주를 다루었다.

나이 듦의 상처 극복을 위한 독서치료

독서치료는 책읽기를 통하여 마음의 변화를 일으키도록 유도함으로써 사람들이 가지고 있는 마음의 상처를 치유하고 삶의 질을 향상시킬 수 있도록 하는 방법이다. 이 연구에서는 독서치료적 접근법을 통하여 나이 듦(Aging)에서 오는 변화를 수용하고 중년 이후의 삶이 야기하는 마음의 상처를 현명하게 극복하도록 하기 위한 이론적 기반을 제시하였다. 이를 위하여 5명의 대상자를 선정한 후 이들에게 적절한 도서들을 추천하였다. 이들이 책읽기를 통하여 나이 듦과 함께 찾아오는 신체적, 인지적, 사회적 변화에 너그러워지고 마음의 상처가 치유되는 경험을 하게 되는 과정을 실제적 사례를 통하여 고찰하였다. 그리고, 대상자들이 나이 듦에서 오는 신체적 기능 저하, 가족들로부터의 괴리감 사회적 무능력감 등의 상처를 발견하고 선정된 권장도서를 읽음으로써 자신의 문제를 객관적으로 이해하게 되고 자신의 아픔을 통찰하게 되어 마음의 안정을 느끼게 되는 과정을 서술하였다.

공공도서관 자료구입에 영향을 미치는 제도에 관한 연구

Acquisition processes in public libraries, especially as influenced by policies and regulations both in national and regional levels have not been in the main area of concerns in the research of library and information science. While the area of collection management has yet been one of the major issues in this filed, public library book-purchasing in the major factor to achieve effective library collections. This study concentrated on the policies and regulations that attempts to normalize and control the acquisition process in public libraries. This research analyzed and investigated (1) various policies and regulations regarding the library collection as public procurement, (2) legitimacy of decision between normal price procurement and discounted price contract under the current policy on normal retail price of books, (3) budget allocation, (4) policies on library acquisition processes. Suggestions are also added for the efficient collection building in public libraries.

과학기술분야 정보자원개발정책에 관한 연구

Collection development policies(CDP) are becoming increasingly important to libraries of all types and sizes. The paper addresses the elements to develop a collection development policy to guide the librarians for the science and technology information resources. Instead of focusing on how well a given item fits into or supports the collection, the policy gives general guidance on the selection of information resources. The general collection development guidelines for the information resources include relevance and potential use of the information, demand for the information, ease of use of the product, subject and magnitudes, stability of the coverage of the resource, longevity of the information and evaluation mechanism.

R&D 성과물 공동활용에 대한 연구자들의 인식에 관한 연구

최근 학술커뮤니케이션에 나타난 변화 중 괄목할 만한 것이 '오픈액세스(Open Access)인데, 세계적으로 정보공유를 위한 연구자들의 참여와 학계와 정부에서의 지원 정책 발표가 이어면서 서구를 중심으로 급속히 확산되고 있다. 정보공유에 있어서 가장 중요한 것은 정보의 생산자이면서 소비자인 연구자들의 참여의지와 인식이다. 따라서 연구성과 정보의 공유에 대한 인식 조사는 대단히 긴요하다. 본 조사는 특정 주제 분야의 연구자들을 대상으로 오픈액세스 환경에 대한 인식도를 조사하였다. 이 조사를 바탕으로 오픈액세스 환경에서 이슈가 되고 있는 저작권 문제를 조명하였다. 결과적으로 국내 연구자들에게 있어서 '오픈액세스'에 대한 인식은 아직은 미비한 것으로 나타난 반면, 저작권이 침해되지 않는 범위 내에서 명확한 출처를 밝히고 합법적인 목적으로 연구물을 사용한다면 오픈액세스 활동에 참여할 의사를 가지고 있는 것으로 조사되었다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 이 논문에서는 저작권과 라이선스의 마련, 그리고 산재한 연구성과물의 원활한 관리와 접근 및 활용을 극대화시킬 수 있는 연구정보관리 체제의 구축이 필요함을 밝혔다.

공공도서관장의 역할과 일상적 직무에 대한 질적 분석

There are speculations toward public libraries in Korea including the destructive crisis in public libraries. As leaders in these organizations, the directors of public libraries need to be interested in the subject of leadership. Leadership is a major component of management of an organization in transition. The subject once was a sub-field prospered especially in 1970's and 1980's. Since then the perceptions of researchers and practitioners have changed due to new technologies. Recent literature in the field illustrates wide variety of concerns and issues of public library management. This paper attempts to highlight such issues and perceptions of the real world of libraries, portrayed through a qualitative analysis.

문헌정보학에 있어서 담론분석의 응용

Library and information science(LIS) research, as reflected in its own disciplinary and professional history, has been ignorant of the transitions and developments of other humanities and social science disciplines. For instance, the positivistic perspectives in research have been maintained in the field while other disciplines have been experimenting wide variety of research methods and aspects. This paper attempts to articulate that LIS research should play an appropriate role in analyzing and investigating various key-words in modern knowledge society. In this regard it scrutinizes the applicability and implications of discourse analysis. It specifically surveys the historical background of the development of LIS research; then it explains the dimensions of discourse analysis and some principles; and, finally it shows some examples of research projects that emp1oy these perspectives.

대학도서관 이용교육 연구의 동향과 논점

User education in academic libraries can be traced back to the beginning of the education for librarianship in late 19th century. Since then, perspectives in library user education and the perceptions of researchers and practitioners have changed due to new technologies. Recent literature in this field illustrates wide variety of concerns and issues of user education in academic libraries. This paper attempts to highlight such issues and perceptions regrading the subject. It suggests that some fundamental features of LIS education require attention. Suggestions are outlined along with the strong recommendations in terms of the importance of critical thinking and reading, user education as a tool of library promotion, and the politics of academic library user education.

광역대표도서관 공동보존서고 서비스 활성화 방안 연구 - 부산도서관을 중심으로 -

This study aimed to propose strategies for enhancing the services of cooperative repositories at metropolitan representative libraries, with a focus on the Busan Library. To this end, a survey was conducted among users and librarians of the cooperative repository to examine their perceptions of and needs regarding its services. Based on the results, this study proposes five strategies for service improvement: (1) improvement of reading and circulation services, (2) identification of new services, (3) development and provision of digital collections, (4) establishment of a dedicated organization and reinforcement of staffing, and (5) formulation of cooperative repository policies at the metropolitan library level. This study is expected to serve as a fundamental resource for developing strategies to enhance the use and services of cooperative repositories.
