A multi-type heat pump controls the mass flow rate of the working fluid to cope with variable heat loads when it is under dynamic load condition. This paper describes the exergy analysis associated with the dynamic response of heat pump. First, a basic heat pump cycle is examined at steady state to show the general trends of exergy changes in each process of the cycle. Entropy generation issue in the exchangers is discussed to optimize the heat pump cycle. Second, the performance of the inverter-driven heat pump is compared to that of the conventional one when the heat load is variable. Third, the exergy destruction rate associated with the ON/OFF operations of the heat pump is calculated by simulating the thermodynamic states of the condenser and the evaporator. The inefficiency of the ON/OFF operation during the transient period is quantitatively revealed by the exergy analysis.
IoT-based Guerrilla Sensor with Mobile Web for Risk Reduction

In case that limited resources can be mobilized, non-structural countermeasures such as ‘monitoring using Information and Communication Technology might be one of solutions to mitigate disaster risks. Having established the monitoring system, operational and maintenance costs to maximize the effectiveness might trouble the authority concerned or duty attendant who is in charge. In this respect, “Guerrilla Sensor” would be very cost effective because of the inherent mobility characteristic. The sensor device with the IRIS camera and GPS (Global Positioning System) equipped, is basically battery-operated and communicates with WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access). It has a strong advantage of capabilities for ‘Disaster Response’ with immediate and prompt action on the spot, making the best use of IoT (Internet of Things), especially with the mobile web. This paper will explain how the sensor system works in real-time GIS (Geographic Information System) pinpointing the exact location of the abnormal movement/ground displacement and notifying the registered users via SMS (Short Message Service). Real time monitoring with early warning and evaluation of current situations with LBS (Location Based Service), live image and data information can help to reduce the disaster impact. Installation of Guerrilla sensor for a real site application at Gimcheon, South Korea is also reported.

Optical fibre sensors have shown a potential to serve real time health monitoring of the structures. They can be easily embedded or attached to the structures and are not affected by the electro-magnetic field. Furthermore, they have the flexibility of the sensor size and very highly sensitive. In this study, we conducted several laboratory and field tests using a novel optical sensor based on Brillouin scattering. One of the advantages of this technique is that the bare fibre itself acts as sensing element without any special fibre processing or preparation. Test results have shown that BOTDR can be a great solution for sensor systems of Civil Engineering Smart Structures.

최근 정보통신기술의 발전과 보편화로 교통분야의 정보수집 체계에도 변화가 일어나고 있다. 과거 도로인프라에 검지기를 설치하여 정보를 수집하는 고정형 검지체계에서 다수의 개별 통행자들이 소지한 모바일 장치로부터 정보를 수집하는 이동형 검지체계로 전환되고 있다. 이러한 교통분야 검지체계의 패러다임 전환은 새로운 교통정보 생성을 통하여 보다 정확한 시스템 진단 및 평가를 가능하게 하였고, 이를 기반으로 교통운영 및 계획의 효율화를 위한 기초자료로 활용되고 있다. 본고에서는 진화하고 있는 교통분야 검지체계를 설명하고, 이를 이용한 사례들을 소개한다.
