This study explains a development process of optimisation indicators for tourism destination. Optimisation process is rooted in theories taken from the fields of mathematics and recently applied to tourism studies for overcoming sustainable tourism issues. 15 optimisation indicators were proposed through the application of sustainable tourism and verified the appropriateness of the indicators by the case study in Jeju Island. In this paper, firstly, the present sustainable tourism development issues on definitions, carrying capacity and vulnerability are discussed. Secondly, the development and use of indicators based on sustainability and optimisation are examined. Thirdly, 15 optimisation indicators are identified and classified their level by actual data on the basis of the results from cluster analysis and multi-dimensional scaling(MDS). The results imply that indicators are appropriate to show a destination’s status and there is a need to manage indicators strategically based on their level.
The existing studies are about crime prevention of apartment complex and residential site in the metropolitan area, so it is difficult to apply the results of established studies to Jeju city, Jeju-do, which is an island. This study is a part of CPTED(Crime Prevention Through Environment Design) which has tried to find out spacial characters by investigating the crime spaces in Jeju city. The results are as follows : 1. Larceny has taken place the highest rate in the types of occurred crime in Jeju city. 2. The crime has taken place the most in roads, in commercial facilities, in Yeon-Dong, in summer, on Friday, in July and August. 3. It is necessary to establish territoriality and natural surveillance for crime prevention.
