We have designed a novel single cell gap transflective display associated with dual orientation of the liquid crystal. Owing to hybrid alignment in reflective part, the effective cell retardation value becomes half of cell retardation value in transmissive part where the LCs are homogeneously aligned. This study shows the possibility to manufacture the transflective display with a single gamma curve for reflective and transmissive region. The new device shows a high image quality with relatively easy fabrication.

Purpose: To report the expression of decorin and TGF-β in partial myotomy of the extraocular muscle in rats. Methods: Partial myotomy of the superior rectus muscle was performed on the right eye of 10 Sprague-Dawley rats followed by exposure of the left superior rectus muscle and a simple suture of the conjunctiva. The bilateral superior rectus muscle was obtained from all rats at 2 weeks postoperatively. The tissues were observed under light microscopy with hematoxylin- eosin, Masson’s trichrome staining and immunohistochemistry. Results: Histological examinations of the surgical area at 2 weeks after postoperatively showed irregularly concentrated fibrosis on light microscopy with hematoxylin-eosin and Masson’s trichrome staining of the experimental eyes. Immnohistochemistry showed that expression of decorin was in the same location as TGF-β in the experimental group. Conclusions: The expression of decorin was found in the healing process after partial myotomy of the extraocular muscle in rats. Immunohistochemistry showed that expression of decorin was in the same location as with TGF-β.

We have studied electro-optic characteristics to improve viewing angle of the in-plain switching (IPS) liquid crystal display using an compensation film. The IPS mode shows relatively large light leakage and color shift in diagonal directions in a dark state. To solve this problem, we have compensated the low contrast ratio in diagonal directions using one optimized discotic film and adjusting TAC films of polarizers. The compensated IPS mode shows wide viewing angle characteristics that region of CR 50:1 is over $60^{\circ}$ of polar angle in all directions. The optimized IPS cell exhibits much better performances than other methods do in terms of CR and color uniformity.

MSMIL을 이용한 멀티미디어 모바일 학습시스템의 설계 및 구현

무선 기술의 발달은 모바일 기능과의 결합으로 전자적인 학습을 향상시키고, 모바일 학습으로 확산되고 있다. 기본적으로 모바일 학습은 학습자에게 교육 내용 접근을 위한 시간과 공간적인 유용성을 제공한다. 그러나 모바일 디바이스는 작은 디스플레이 장치와 제한된 메모리 공간으로 인해서 학습 내용으로의 접근을 단지 텍스트 기반의 전달로 제한하고 있다. 본 논문은 멀티미디어 오브젝트 동기화를 지원하는 SMIL을 사용하여 모바일 디바이스에서 멀티미디어 컨텐츠 제작에 필요한 태그로만 구성한 MSMIL을 정의하여 파서의 크기를 줄이고, 학습 내용 생성시 매크로 방식을 사용하여 멀티미디어 학습 내용의 데이터 감소, 전송 효율 증대를 위한 멀티미디어 모바일 학습 시스템을 설계 및 구현하였다. 구현 결과, 제작 언어의 간소화와 언어 습득의 용이, 그리고 파서의 크기를 줄임으로써 파싱을 위한 CPU의 자원을 절약할 수 있다. The advancement of wireless technology improves the electronic learning by combining with the mobile function, and promotes the expanded transition to the mobile learning. Basically, the mobile learning provides the usefulness in terms of tile and space to provide learners with the access to the educational contents. However, the small display device and limited memory space of mobile device is limiting the access to the learning contents simply to the text-based transmission. This paper designed and implemented the multimedia mobile learning system that reduces the size of parser by define into MSMIL composed only of needed tag to multimedia contents production in the mobile devices by using the SMIL that supports the multimedia object synchronization reduces the data of multimedia learning data and enhances the transmission efficiency by applying the macro method in creating the contents of learning. The results of implementation indicates that it simplifies the designing language, makes the language learning easy, and saves the CPU resources for the parsing by reducing the size of parser.

성장호르몬 분비 뇌하수체선종에 대한 감마나이프 방사선수술의 치료결과

Objective : As for growth hormone(GH) secreting pituitary adenoma, it's remission should be declared on the basis of satisfactory controlling of the tumor, normalization of hormonal level, and symptomatic improvement of the patient. Several modalities of treatment have been applied and administered, and yet, this disease still remains as inveterate one to be fully treated. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the outcome of gamma knife radiosurgery(GKRS) for GH secreting pituitary adenoma, and to identify various factors affecting the outcome of the treatment. Method : A group of 24 out of 35 patients, treated by Leksell gamma knife unit during the period of March of 1992 through October of 1997, had been observed for more than two years. The mean target volume of microadenoma was $449.3mm^3(range 216-880mm^3)$, and that of macroadenoma was $3183.1mm^3(range 1456-13125mm^3)$. The tumor margin was covered with 50% isodose profile, and mean marginal dose was 25.2Gy(range 15-32.4Gy). The mean number of isocenter was 4.3(range 1-6). The exposed dose to the optic apparatus was less than 8Gy. The mean follow-up period was 37.8months(range 24-102months). Result : No patients showed any increase in the tumor volume during the follow-up period. And definite shrinkage of tumor volume(tumor volume reduction rate, TVRR : more than 50%) was obtained in 10 patients(41.7%). Twenty one patients(87.5%) had reduced hormonal level compared than pre-treatment level. Among them, normalization of the hormonal level was achieved in 12 patients(50%). Clinicoendocrinological remission was seen in 3 patients (12.5%). According to the results of statistical analysis, tumor volume(p=0.016),duration of symptoms(p=0.046), initial GH level(p=0.017), and the invasion of cavernous sinus(p=0.036) were significantly favorable to post-radiosurgical outcome. The TVRR was significantly related to post-radiosurgical reduction of serum GH level. Permanent complication was not seen. Conclusion : The authors concluded that GKRS is a safe and effective treatment modality for acromegaly. To otain the better outcome of GKRS in GH secreting pituitary adenoma, more careful and sophisticated treatment-planning is recommended.

현재 Fringe-field switching(FFS) 액정 모드는 고화질 및 고정세 액정 디스플레이에 주로 적용되고 있다. 본 총설에서는 FFS모드의 어떠한 동작원리가 기존에 다른 액정모드 보다 왜 우수한 전기광학 특성을 갖는지에 대한 상세 한 설명과 더불어 FFS모드의 역사적 발전 현황, 기술의 현 주 이슈 및 향후 발전방향을 기술한다. Recently, the fringe-field switching (FFS) mode in liquid crystal displays has been used mainly for high image quality and high-resolution liquid crystal displays (LCDs). In this review paper, the fundamental switching principle of the FFS mode, with its excellence over other LC modes in electro-optic performance, will be described. In addition, the development history, present technical issues, and future of the FFS LCD will be discussed.

비전형적인 보그트-고야나기-하라다 병에서의 수술적 치험 1예

Purpose : To report a case of surgical treatment of bilateral bullous exudative retinal detachment associated with Vogt-Koyanagi- Harada disease. Case summary: A 64-year-old woman presented with decreased visual acuity, headache, and hearing loss for 2 months. Visual acuity was hand motion in the right eye and light perception in the left eye. Intraocular pressure was 16 mmHg in the right eye and 24 mmHg in the left eye. Slit lamp examimation disclosed corneal edema, conjunctival ciliary injection with chemosis, rubeosis iridis, and posterior synechia in both eyes. Fundus examination demonstrated bilateral bullous exudative retinal detachment. Lumbar puncture revealed pleocytosis and auditory function test showed neurosensory hearing loss. She was diagnosed as having bilateral bullous exudative retinal detachment associated Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada disease. On hospital day 3, intravitreal triamcinolone injection with external subretinal fluid drainage was performed in the right eye and on hospital day 6, intravitreal triamcinolone injection with external subretinal fluid drainage was performed in the left eye. Two months later, best corrected visual acuity was 0.2 in the right eye and 0.04 in the left eye. Conclusions: Intravitreal trimacinolone acetonide injection with external subretinal fluid drainage is one of the good treatment for bullous exudative retinal detachment associated with Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada disease.

리트벨트법에 의한 혼합재 첨가 보통 포틀랜드 시멘트 중 C₃A 수화반응 해석

Due to the revised Korean standard KS L 5201 for Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC), the use of mixed cement has grown from 5% to 10%. This study investigates the hydration behavior of $C_3A$, asit is a cement mixture that is more commonly used than granulated blast furnace slag or limestone alone. Paste samples were prepared with either granulated blast furnace slag or limestone alone. Each sample was compared with the widely used Rietveld method with a cement mixture containing blast furnace slag or limestone. The hydration behavior of $C_3A$ in each OPC sample was assessed and results were analyzed. Granulated blast furnace slag promotes a high initial level of ettringite, but as the days passed, it promotes an increase in monosulfate, leading to cracks and expansion due to the penetration of sulfates in the solution. However, when limestone is added to the mixture, a transformation of ettringite to monosulfate occurs in the presence of the $CaCO_3$ in the limestone. It is considered that this produces hemi-carbonate and mono-carbonate and thus maintains the ettringite level.

유리체강 내 항혈관내피세포성장인자 주입술 전의 예방적 안압강하제의 효과

Purpose: The purpose of the present study was to investigate the prophylactic effects of a fixed combination of dorsolamide/ timolol on intraocular pressure (IOP) elevation before intravitreal anti-VEGF injection. Methods: A prospective, randomized clinical trial was conducted on 91 eyes of 91 patients undergoing intravitreal anti- VEGF injection. The eyes were randomly divided into 2 groups, the eyes which had used the fixed prophylactic dorsolamide/ timolol combination (group 1, 58 eyes) and the eyes which had not used the combination (group 2, 15 eyes). The IOP was measured one hour and 5 minutes prior to the procedure, 5 minutes interval up to 30 minutes after the procedure and one hour, 1 day, 7 days, and one month after the procedure. The IOP changes were analyzed. Results: The mean 5 minutes and 30 minutes postoperative IOPs were 14.12 ± 4.18 mm Hg and 10.87 ± 1.58 mm Hg in group 1 and 28.21 ± 3.16 mm Hg and 17.48 ± 2.34 mm Hg in group 2, respectively. After IVBI, the mean 5 min postoperative IOP was 12.17 ± 1.13 mm Hg in group 1 and 27.12 ± 3.35 mm Hg in group 2. After IVRI, the mean 5 minutes postoperative IOP was 15.98 ± 4.14 mm Hg in group 1 and 25.19 ± 1.04 mm Hg in group 2. Conclusions: Prophylactic use of a fixed dorsolamide/timolol combination before intravitreal anti-VEGF injection is an easy and safe method of preventing IOP elevation immediately after intravitreal injection of bevacizumab or ranibizumab.
