Diet contro is very important in phenylketonuria patients and only limited amount of phenylalanine is allowed for them everyday. But we don't know the phenylalanine amount in confectionery on sale which many children like to eat. So I studied the phenylalanine amount in 36 kinds of confectionery on sale in Korea to advice the PKU patients about the allowed amount of confectionery to eat everyday. The results are divided into 3 groups. In the first group, which contains phenylalanine amount over 10㎎/100gm, Banana Kick and Potato Stick of Nong Shim Company(Co.), French Pie of Hai Tai Co., Milk Caramel of Orion Co., Ghana chocolate of Lotte Co., and Oksusu Corn of Mammoth Co., are included. In the second group, which contains phenylalanine amount of 10㎎/10gm, Shrimp chips and Sweetee of Nong Shim Co., Babam Bar of Hai Tai Co., Vanilla Wafers of Orion Co., Changgu of Sam Yang Co., Corn Choco, Cheese Sand, and Corn Chip of Crown Co., Vegetable Cracker of Lotte Co., Sallo Byul of Ghirin Co., and Salkangcheong of Mammoth Co. are included. In the third group, which contains phenylalanine amount below 1㎎/100gm, Indian Bap, Dakdari(chicken), Chagalchi, and Onion Ring of Nong Shim Co., Egg Cookie and Joa of Hai Tai Co., Chitos, Bibico, and Koraebab Snack of Orion Co., Sattobab of Sam Yang Co., Jory Pong, Yoojamat Jelly, Cancho, Baebaero, and Screw Bar of Lotte Co., Jelly C of Ghirin Co., Pop Corn of Mammoth Co., Sagak Yookwa of Gungjeon Co., and Babiko of Lotte Sam Kang Co. are included. The first group confectionery contains so much amount of phenylalanine so they are not limited to be eaten freely by PKU patients because it is very necessary to keep allowed phenlylalanine amount a day in PKU patients.
