The proficiency to transmit messages communicatively requires that one should be able to listen, speak, read, and write the language in situations according to the sender or receiver's channel. So EFL students ought to develop these 4-skills in their English learning. However, teaching writing seems to have been much neglected in English classes. This paper analyzes the past teaching of writing and introduces major teaching techniques to be practised in classes. First, the importance of teaching writing is discussed. Second, the recent trend of writing research is also discussed. Third, some activities/tasks to be applied to students' learning are demonstrated with examples. Lastly, die analysis of questionnaires, which consist of general writing matters--students' background, interest, proficiency, etc., is presented.
초등 영어 수업에서 Storytelling을 통한 듣기와 말하기 능력 및 흥미도 향상 방안

This paper is to help the students in elementary schools develop and improve their English listening and speaking skills by presenting effective teaching and learning techniques of storytelling . Storytelling in the classroom seems to be a creative English teaching technique which can involve authentic, communicative language situations. Moreover, storytelling appeals to children and can aid in lowering affective filters thereby creating a more comfortable learning environment. The study clearly shows that storytelling is feasible and enjoyable in elementary English classes. The results of the experiment are as follows: First, storytelling in the English class was found to have positive influence on students' affective domains(interest/attitude). Second, storytelling in the English class was found to be efficient for improving students' English listening and speaking skills. Third, appropriate materials should be selected and well thought-out plans should be made to be successful English class storytelling.

Nowadays in Korea the subject of English education has been rising as one of the essential matters which need to be emphasized, reorganized, and thus refined. From the history of about one century to the current. English education may be compared to an adolescent sho should be paid much more attention to grow as an independent adult. Although we recognize that there was much improvement in the past age of English education, a lot of assignments to solve await us. This study aims to suggest a recipe for optimal learning in English classes by linking theory with practice: First, the nation-wide academic associations of English teaching should act more energetically and cooperatively than ever. They need further specialization, dynamic participation, and systematic organization. At the same time the academic journals of their own should be publicized broadly, internationally as well as nationally, Second, there should be close contact and discussion between professors and secondary-school teachers. To achieve better learning in English classes, and effective cycle of equilibrium ought to be maintained by combining theory with practice. For example, language institute in universities/colleges can serve instructional programs such as lectures, colloquiums, and intensive courses for conversation. Third, native speakers of English should be positively utilized. Teachers had better keep close contact with native speakers as frequently as possible if they want to become fluent or at least acceptable speakers in English. Teachers may also use native speakers as aides in their classes.

The purpose of this study was to examine the English writing used to describe Korean cultural properties. This was done to develop a practical framework that can be used to improve this type of writing nationwide. Six examples of English writing used to describe randomly selected descriptions of Baekje cultural properties were analyzed by the following nine dimensions: romanization, spelling, vocabulary, grammatical accuracy, style, punctuation, contents, intent, and meaning. It was found that there were a great deal of errors in the pieces of writing analyzed, and these errors ranged from those that were trivial to those that would be serious impediments to potential readers. Therefore, the Korean government should systematically revise errors that appear in writing throughout English descriptions of Korean cultural properties. This is necessary as Korea becomes more globalized and international interest in Korean history and culture grows.
의사소통 능력 향상을 위한 영어교사 연수교육의 개선 방안

This paper aims to survey the concept of teachers' in-service training and its types, to analyze the current situation of English teachers' in-service training system and its problems, and to suggest effective solutions for the problems and ways to conduct better training programs for English teachers based on the above analysis results. The suggestive ways for better training system are as follows: First, learner-centered in-service training program should be provided considering English teachers' opinions. Second, support for on-line in-service training, blended learning training, and self-controlled study should be extended. Third, various kinds of English training programs should be provided including teaching methodologies. Fourth, a network of instructors should be managed, and feedback from the conducted programs should be considered in planning follow-up programs using consulting teams or monitoring system. Fifth, measures for inducing more teachers to training programs should be taken. Sixth, teachers should try to have a positive attitude toward in-service training.
