N/A Purpose: To investigate the various ictal perfusion patterns and find the relationships between clinical factors and different perfusion patterns. Materials and Methods: lnterictal and ictal SPECT and SPECT subtraction were performed in 61 patients with partial epilepsy. Bath positive images showing ictal hypoperfusion and negative images revealing ictal hypoperfusion were obtained by SPECT subtraction. The ictal perfusion patterns of subtracted SPECT were classified into focal hypoperfusion, hypoperfusion-plus, combined hypoperfusion-hypoperfusion, and focal hypoperfusion only. Results: The concordance rates with epileptic focus were 91.8% in combined analysis of ictal hypoperfusion and hypoperfusion images of subtracted SPECT, 85.2% in hypoperfusion images only of subtracted SPECT, and 68.9% in conventional ictal SPECT analysis. Ictal hypoperfusion occurred less frequently in temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) than extratemporal lobe epilepsy. Mesial temporal hypoperfusion alone was seen only in mesial TLE while lateral temporal hypoperfusion alone was observed only in neocortical TLE. Hippocampal sclerosis had much lower incidence of ictal hypoperfusion than any other pathology. Some patients showed ictal hypoperfusion at epileptic focus with ictal hypoperfusion in the neighboring brain regions where ictal discharges propagated. Conclusion: Hypoperfusion as well as hypoperfusion in ictal SPECT should be considered for localizing epileptic focus. Although the mechanisrn of ictal hypopertusion could be an intra-ictal early exhaustion of seizure focus or a steal phenomenon by the propagation of ictal discharges to adjacent brain areas, further study is needed to elucidate it. Berberis amurensis Ruprecht(Berberidaceae) is a medicinal plant indigenous to the middle and northern part of Korean peninsula. The woody parts of this plant have been used for the ocular, peptic and intestinal disorders. The stems of this plants were extracted with MeOH and the MeOH extract was partitioned between organic phases and water layer, successively to fractionated quarternary alkaloids. The acetone-soluble part of guarternary alkaloidal fraction had antibacterial activities and it contained four protoberberine alkaloids such as palmatine(I), Berberine(II), Jatrorrhizine(III) and coptisine(IV), and one aporphine alkaloid, magnoflorine(V). Although the isolations of the compounds I, II, IIII, IV and V from different sources were reported, this is the first report that Berberis amurensis contained the compounds. When the contents of compound I(palmatine) and II(berberine) were quantified and compared with those of other plant parts, cortex contained higher palmatine and berberine than any other part of the plant.

Impatiens textori Miquel (Balsaminaceae) is an annual plant growing in most parts of Korea. The herb of this plant has been used for the external application of snake poison and the bruise. Previous investigations conducted with the herbs have demonstrated it to contain three flavones and three flavone glycosides. Continuing to previous reports, quercetin, kaempferol and acacetin $7-O-{\beta}-D-glucoside$ were isolated from the herbs of this plant.

Corydalis Tuber has been used in traditional medicine for an analgesic, antispasmodic and gastric ulcers. For the quality control on this drug, isolation and quantitative determination of berberine and coptisine from Corydalis ternata Nakai (Papaveraceae) has been conducted by using HPLC method. Berberine and coptisine in quarternary alkaloidal fraction from the crude drug were separated on silicagel column using a $CHCl_3:MeOH\;(85:15)$ and $CHCl_3:MeOH:H_2O\;(70:30:4)$ as an eluent, and the average contents were about 0.93 and 0.36%.
국내 청소년의 과거 영화 속 흡연장면 노출 정도와 현재 흡연유무와의 관련성

우리나라에서는 영화 속 흡연장면 노출과 청소년 흡연행태 간의 인과관계를 증명하기 위한 연구가 진행되지 않았고, 문제인식조차 부족한 상황이다. 본 연구는 국내 청소년들의 과거 영화 속 흡연장면 노출 정도와 현재 흡연상태와의 관련성을 분석하고자 했다. 고등학생과 대학생 1,075명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 영화 속 흡연장면 노출 횟수는 지난 2005년부터 2006년 9월말 사이 개봉된 총 70편의 한국 영화 속 흡연 장면을 모니터링한 조사 자료를 사용했다. 분석 결과, 현재 흡연군의 영화 속 흡연장면 평균 노출 횟수는 137.4회(표준편차, ±47.8)였고, 비흡연군은 74.4회(±47.9회)였다. 영화 속 흡연장면 노출이 가장 많았던 그룹(133-340회)이 노출횟수가 가장 낮은 그룹(50회 이 하)에 비해 현재 흡연율이 38.7배(95% 신뢰구간, 15.4-97.3) 높았고, 93회에서 132회 노출된 군은 18.9배(95% 신뢰구간, 7.6-47.5) 높았다. 많은 횟수의 영화 속 흡연장면 노출은 청소년들의 흡연행태와 긍정적 관련성이 있는 것으로 확인되었다. 영화 속 흡연 장면으로부터 청소년들을 보호하기 위해서 영화 및 비디오 등급 분류 기준 강화와 국민 건강증진법 개정을 통해 영화의 흡연장면 삽입을 규제하는 정책적 접근이 요구된다. The purpose of this study is to provide the preliminary data in order to develop strong and comprehensive tobacco control policies by analyzing the association between exposures of smoking scenes in movies and smoking behavior. The data was collected from a total of 1,075 high school and college students. The group exposed smoking scenes in the movie between 133 and 340 times was more likely to be current smokers, compared to the group exposed the scenes less than 50 times [odds ratio (OR) 38.7; 95% confidence interval (CI) 15.4-97.3]. After adjusting the confounding factors which affect smoking behavior, exposure to smoking scenes in movies was a risk factor to current smoking status. There was the association between exposure of smoking scenes in movies and current smoking status among Korean adolescents and young adults. The study provides an important evidence to reinforce tobacco control policies for young people by banning the use of smoking scenes in movies targeting adolescents. The existing movie classification regulations should be revised and fully implemented to protect adolescents and young people from smoking scenes in movies.

Fatty acids, sterols and amino acids were confirmed from seeds of Acan thopanax senticosus for. inermis Harms. Fatty acids were isolated from petroleum ether extract and identified by gas liquid chromatography. Its composition was myristic acid, palmitic acid, stearic acid, oleic acid, linoleic acid, linolenic acid and behenic acid. The composition of sterols that isolated from n-hexane extract were determined by GC/MS. It was confirmed to be a mixture of β-sitosterol and stigmasterol. And several kinds of amino acids-cysteic acid, threonine, serine, proline, glutamic acid, glycine, alanine, valine, isoleucine, leucine, histidine, lysine and arginine-were confirmed from water fraction.
Electroencephalogram Power Spectra in Thioacetamide-induced Hepatic Encephalopathy

흰쥐에 thioacetamide(TAA)를 투여하면 간성뇌장애가 유발된다. 두가지 행동 상태(꼬리 접촉자극 및 미자극)와 세 단계의 신경학적 이상의 단계(정상, 약한 운동실조, 심한 운동실조)별로 뇌파를 기록하였고, 뇌파 스펙트럼 및 대역 분석을 통하여 간성뇌장애 진행동안 뇌파의 정량적인 변동을 관찰하였다. 정상 쥐에서 자극은 $theta(3.5{\sim}8\;Hz)$ 및 $gamma(30{\sim}50\;Hz)$ 대역의 power을 증가시켰다. 운동실조가 있는 쥐에서 이러한 변화가 일어나지 못하였다. 꼬리 자극을 하는 상태에서 theta 대역의 변화는 gamma 대역의 변화 보다 더욱 일찍 관찰되었다. 신경학적 행동 단계가 심해짐에 따라서 $beta3(21{\sim}30\;Hz)$ 및 gamma 대역에서 power가 점차적으로 감소하였다. 또한 간성뇌장애의 신경학적 증상은 benzodiazepine계 물질에 의하여 야기된다는 가설이 있으므로 beta power의 증가가 관찰될 것으로 기대하였으나 이 연구에서는 관찰하지 못하였다. 이 결과들로 미루어 볼때 이 연구에 사용된 스펙트럼 및 대역 분석이 간성뇌장애동안 신경학적 증상의 정도를 정량화 할 수 있다고 생각된다. During the development of hepatic encephalopathy after thioacetamide (TAA) injection to rat, EEG was recorded at two different states: without or with tactile stimulation of tail at regular intervals. Calculations based on the spectral and band analysis were used. The changes in the power spectra and bands were examined in 3 different behavioral stages: normal, mild ataxia and severe ataxia. In normal rats, the stimulation produced the increase in the power of the theta $(3.5{\sim}8\;Hz)$ and the gamma $(30{\sim}50\;Hz)$ bands. These changes could not be produced in rats with the mild and severe ataxia. The changes in the power of the theta band occurred earlier than those of the beta3 and the gamma bands in the stimulated state. Gradual decreases in the spectral power of the beta3 $(21{\sim}30\;Hz)$ and the gamma bands were correlated with the progress of the stages from normal condition to mild to severe ataxia in both unstimulated and stimulated states. The results indicate that the spectral and band analysis used in this study can quantify the severity of the neurological malfunction during HE.
