        Exendin-4 Inhibits the Expression of SEPP1 and Fetuin-A via Improvement of Palmitic Acid-Induced Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress by AMPK

        Background: Selenoprotein P (SEPP1) and fetuin-A, both circulating liver-derived glycoproteins, are novel biomarkers for insulin resistance and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. However, the effect of exendin-4 (Ex-4), a glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist, on the expression of hepatokines, SEPP1, and fetuin-A, is unknown. Methods: The human hepatoma cell line HepG2 was treated with palmitic acid (PA; 0.4 mM) and tunicamycin (tuni; 2ug/ml) with or without exendin-4 (100 nM) for 24 hours. The change in expression of PA-induced SEPP1, fetuin-A, and endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress markers by exendin-4 treatment were evaluated using quantitative real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction and Western blotting. Transfection of cells with AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) small interfering RNA (siRNA) was performed to establish the effect of exendin-4-mediated AMPK in the regulation of SEPP1 and fetuin-A expression. Results: Exendin-4 reduced the expression of SEPP1, fetuin-A, and ER stress markers including PKR-like ER kinase, inositol-requiring kinase 1α, activating transcription factor 6, and C/EBP homologous protein in HepG2 cells. Exendin-4 also reduced the expression of SEPP1 and fetuin-A in cells treated with tunicamycin, an ER stress inducer. In cells treated with the AMPK activator 5-aminoidazole-4-carboxamide ribonucleotide (AICAR), the expression of hepatic SEPP1 and fetuin-A were negatively related by AMPK, which is the target of exendin-4. In addition, exendin-4 treatment did not decrease SEPP1 and fetuin-A expression in cells transfected with AMPK siRNA. Conclusion: These data suggest that exendin-4 can attenuate the expression of hepatic SEPP1 and fetuin-A via improvement of PA-induced ER stress by AMPK.

        GLP-1 Receptor Agonist and Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease

        Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), one of the most common liver diseases, is caused by the disruption of hepatic lipid homeostasis. It is associated with insulin resistance as seen in type 2 diabetes mellitus. Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) is an incretin that increases insulin sensitivity and aids glucose metabolism. In recent in vivo and in vitro studies, GLP-1 presents a novel therapeutic approach against NAFLD by increasing fatty acid oxidation, decreasing lipogenesis, and improving hepatic glucose metabolism. In this report, we provide an overview of the role and mechanism of GLP-1 in relieving NAFLD.

        한국 정신요양시설의 급식 서비스 현황 분석

        The purposes of this study were to: a) examine characteristics of foodservice management practices; b) investigate characteristics of recipients; c) analyze foodservice systems; and d) provide feedback for the efficient and effective foodservice management of mental disorder care sites in Korea. A total of 46 sites was analyzed by questionnaire survey. Statistical data analysis was completed using the SPSS package program for descriptive analysis. As results of site recipients' characteristics, 60% of total sites were males and 40% were female recipients. Average 60% of recipients were from 30 to 40 years old. Major diseases of recipients were mental disorder, high pressure, and obesity. According to the result of foodservice system analysis, the average meal cost per day was about 2,921 won and average food cost percentage was 39%. Average number of meals per day was about 600 meals. All sites had one dietitian and 88.3% of sites had one cook as a full-time employee. In the part of procurement, dietitians were major chargers of sites for purchasing foods. Major purchasing method was the order and delivery contract. About a half of sites used cycle menu system and standardized recipies. Most of sites had recipients' survey systems for evaluating meal satisfaction. About 60% of sites provided liquid diets to recepients and 22% provided diabetic diets. Dietitians at sites had problems on low meal cost budget, lack of cooking professionals, and lack of information about treatment meals for mental disorders for providing higher quality of foods to cure recipients. The results suggested that financial and systematical supports by the government would be very necessary to meet the goal of nutritional balanced meal services.

        명대 자사호에 대한 고찰

        자사호는 중국 강소성 의흥에서 생산된 독특한 광물질인 자사토를 이용하여 만들어진 차호(茶壺)를 말하고 있다. 자사호는 음다문화의 변천으로 인해 변화되고 발전되어 초창기인 명대중기부터 수많은 지식인이 중앙권력으로부터 이탈하면서 이들의 문인적성향이 자사호에 미치게 되었다. 이러한 사회적인 조건과 맞물려 탄생된 자사호는 전혀 새로운 재료와 기술의 발견으로 만들어졌다. 자사호는 자사라는 부드러운 모래 한 가지로만 만드는데 이 모래는 찰기가 매우 적어서 그릇 형태를 만들기가 매우 어려워 이 모래에 찰기를 주어 점력을 높이기 위한 특별한 기술이 필요했다. 이 기술은 개인의 능력에 따라 차이를 보이는데 근본적으로 만들기 어려운 점으로 보아 자사호는 비싸고 귀한 대접을 받은 것으로 여겨진다. 명대의 음다법이 산차의 출현으로 인해 이전 시대에 덩어리를 가루 내어 마시던 점다법과는 달리 끓는 물을 직접 차에 부어 우려 마시는 포다법으로 변화되어갔다.명대의 음다법이 차의 향을 유지하기 위한 포다법으로 자리하면서 새로운 음다법에 맞는 차도구들이 선보이기 시작해 번다한 다구들이 쇠퇴하면서 자연스레 자사호가 발전하게 되었다. 이에따라 차의 색·향·미를 중요시하는 명대의 음다문화에 알맞게 고안된 자사호는 보온성과 통기성이 뛰어난 차도구로 탄생되었다. 이 논고에서는 명대의 음다법이 차의 향을 유지하기 위한 포다법으로 자리하면서 새로운 음다법에 맞는 차도구들이 선보이면서 등장한 자사호에 대해 명대의 주고기(周高起)가 쓴 『양선명호계』의 원문의 내용을 바탕으로 정리해 보았다.

        외식업소 경영자의 위생관리 평가분석을 통한 영양사의 지역내 일반음식점 위생교육 지도 필요성 고찰

        The purpose of this study was to examine sanitation management practices of restaurant managers for the training needs &YE&. A total of 26 restaurant managers participated in this study. A check list was consisted of three parts : facility, personal, and food hygiene. Two observers and one manager evaluated the same check list at same time and the results were compared. The results of this study suggested that most restaurants have needed for re-training programs in the view af facility, personal food sanitation practices. Specially, proper washing and sanitizing methods for hands and utensils, proper cooking and holding temperature, and proper storing methods were n&d to be trained. Based on this study, most independent restaurant managers in Cheonan were aware of training, but they had no effective training program manuals. Results of this study implicated that dietitians have new opportunity for consultants of independent restaurants in the region because they have practiced sanitation management manuals.
