      • 현대건축에 나타나는 불확정적 특성에 관한 연구

        'Indeterminacy' is not only at contemporary architecture but also at each period. However, it is becoming social issue as disagreeing about absolutism. As developing technique and media, the past architecture, which have existed in absolutism, can not be truth any more. Seeing the latest tendency, many architects have been doing experiment to make space, which did not exist before. The consecutive experiments can be possible by media, material or technique. It is impossible that this kind of tendency is defined as one theory. However, I will study about 'Indeterminacy' which is existing as the common denominator at their architecture. This theory is connect with Chaos theory and Immateriality. Undoubtedly, this kind of experiment must be adjusted the focus to support the quality human life.

        소아 혈액종양 환자에서 중추신경계 예방적 치료 후 발생한 백질뇌병증

        목 적 : 백질뇌병증은 중추신경계 예방 요법을 시행하는 혈액종양 환자들에게는 심각한 합병증의 하나로, 이러한 백질뇌병증을 최소화하기 위해서는 조기 진단과 그에 따른 치료 방법의 변경이 중요하다 하겠다. 이 연구는 소아 혈액종양 환자에서 예방적 중추신경계 치료에 따른 백질뇌병증의 임상 양상 및 치료 방법 변경 후의 예후에 관해 조사하고, 백질뇌병증의 발생을 최소화하기 위한 정기적 두부 자기공명영상 촬영의 의의를 살펴보고자 시행되었다. 방 법 : 1995년 10월부터 2002년 5월까지 경북대학교병원 소아과에서 급성 림프구성 백혈병 및 B세포 림프종으로 진단받고 중추신경계 예방 치료 후 백질뇌병증이 발견된 16명의 환자를 대상으로 병력지와 MRI를 후향적으로 조사하였다. 결 과 : 급성 림프구성 백혈병 환자 15명과 B세포 림프종 환자 1명의 백질뇌병증 진단 시 연령은 중앙값 5년 3개월이었고, 남녀비는 3 : 1이었다. 항암치료 시작 후 백질뇌병증 진단까지 걸린 시간은 2개월에서 17개월이었다. 백질뇌병증 발생 전 투여한 척수강 내 MTX 투여 횟수는 2회에서 15회로 16명에서 모두 시행하였고, 두부 방사선 치료는 10명에서만 시행하였고 용량은 1,800 rads였다. 백질뇌병증 진단 전 경련, 성격 변화, 두통, 정신 이상, 구음 장애, 의식 변화 등의 정신신경학적 증상이 있었던 경우가 10명 있었으며 증상이 없었던 경우가 6명이었다. 백질뇌병증이 진단되었던 16명의 환자 중 4명은 사망하였으며 나머지 12명의 환아 중에서 현재 계속 항암치료 중인 경우가 8명, 항암치료를 종료한 환자가 3명, 그리고 보호자가 원하여 항암치료를 중지한 경우가 1명이었다. 백질뇌병증 진단 후 자기공명영상의 추적관찰을 시행한 경우가 12명, 시기상 아직 시행하지 못한 경우가 4명이었으며 추적관찰을 시행한 경우 중 자기공명영상에서 병변이 호전된 경우가 4명, 지속되는 경우가 6명, 악화된 경우가 2명이었다. 병변이 호전된 4명 중 2명은 병변이 거의 사라져 정상에 가까운 소견을 보였다. 결 론 : 중추신경계 예방 요법으로 사용하는 척수강 내 MTX 주입 요법과 두부 방사선 조사를 비롯하여 정맥으로 투여되는 MTX 또한 백질뇌병증을 유발하며, 이러한 백질뇌병증은 증상없이 발현되는 경우도 많아 병변의 조기발견을 위한 정기적인 자기공명영상의 촬영이 필요하며, 백질뇌병증의 발견 즉시 즉각적인 조치를 취하여 신경학적 기능의 회복을 가능하게 해야 할 것이라고 생각된다. Purpose : Leukoencephalopathy(LE) is one of the most serious complications in children with hematologic malignancies during the course of treatment. Early recognition is important to reduce the impact and sequelae from LE. We therefore investigated the clinical features of LE following central nervous system(CNS) prophylaxis in children with hematologic malignancies and evaluated the significance of regular check-ups of brain MRI. Methods : We retrospectively reviewed children with hematologic malignancies who had CNS prophylaxis including intrathecal(IT) methotrexate(MTX) and/or cranial irradiation at the Department of Pediatrics, Kyungpook National University Hospital from Oct. 1995 to May 2002. Fifteen cases of acute leukemia and one case of lymphoma who experienced LE following CNS prophylaxis were included in the study. Clinical data were analyzed from the medical records and brain MRIs were reviewed by neuroradiologists. Results : The ages ranged from 1 to 13 years(median age=5.2 years), and the male to female ratio was 3 : 1. The time interval from the beginning of chemotherapy to the time of diagnosis of LE ranged from 2 to 17 months. They all had IT MTX two to 15 times and ten underwent cranial irradiation(1,800 rads). At the time of diagnosis, ten of them had neuropsychiatric symptoms including seizures, personality changes, headache, etc. After the change of treatment modality, four cases showed significant improvement on follow-up MRIs, six cases had no significant changes and two had worsening of LE. Four patients died of infection and bone marrow relapse. Conclusion : CNS prophylaxis with IT therapy and cranial irradiation may cause leukoencephalopathy during the course of treatment. As a result, regular brain MRI check-up is recommended for the early detection and reducing the incidence of LE, along with changes in the treatment modality.

        Mg2+-dependency of the Helical Conformation of the P1 Duplex of the Tetrahymena Group I Ribozyme

        changes in folding of ribozyme. The formation of the P1 duplex between IGS and substrate RNA and the catalytic activity of ribozyme require a variety of metal ions such as Mg2+ and Mn2+. In order to investigate the effect of the Mg2+ concentration on the conformation of the P1 duplex, the NMR study was performed as a function of Mg2+ concentration. This study revealed that the less stable AU-rich region formed duplex at 50 oC under high Mg2+ concentration condition but melts out under low Mg2+ concentration condition. It was also found that in the active conformation under 10 mM MgCl2 condition, the unstable central G·U wobble pair maintains the significant base pairing up to 50 oC. This study provides the information of the unique feature of the P1 duplex structure and the roll of Mg2+ ion on the formation of the active conformation.

        Comparison of Serum Zinc Levels Measured by Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry in Preschool Children with Febrile and Afebrile Seizures

        Background: Changes in levels of trace elements have been proposed to underlie febrile seizures. Particularly, low zinc levels have been proposed as related factor of febrile seizure. In this study, we investigated whether mean serum zinc levels differed between children with febrile seizure and afebrile seizure. Methods: Using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry, serum zinc levels were measured in 288 children who had been diagnosed with febrile seizures (N=248) and afebrile seizures (N=40). Mean serum zinc levels were compared between the 2 groups. Results: Mean serum zinc level was 60.5±12.7 μg/dL in the febrile seizure group and 68.9 ±14.5 μg/dL in the afebrile seizure group. A significant difference in serum zinc levels was observed between the febrile and afebrile seizure groups (P<0.001). Conclusions: Zinc levels in children with febrile seizure were significantly lower than those in children with afebrile seizure.         Protein-ligand interaction investigated by HSQC titration study

        Chemical shift perturbation (CSP) is a simple NMR technique for studying binding of a protein to various ligands. CSP is the only technique that can directly provide both a value for the dissociation constant and a binding site from the same set of measurements. To accurately analyze the CSP data, the exact binding mode such as multiple binding, should be carefully considered. In this review, we analyzed systematically the CSP data with multiple modes. This analysis might provide insight into the mechanism on how proteins selectively recognize their target ligands to achieve the biological function.
