The current paper addresses the issue of when, where, why and how domesticated pigs were introduced in the Korean peninsula by examining faunal remains from archaeological sites. Evidence for domesticated pigs, dating back to the Neolithic period has been reported from a couple of sites in North Korea, but the criteria of identification and context of discovery are unclear. The pig bones from several sites dated to the Early Iron and Proto Three Kingdoms periods, such as Nuk-do, Nakmin-dong, Heohyun-ri, Gochon-ri, Cheonjeon-ri·Yulmun-ri,Songjeong-dong, and Gangmun-dong, are identified as domesticated ones, based on the multidimensional approach using biometry, kill-off pattern, dental pathology, stable isotopic data and genetic markers. Remains of domesticated pigs were slightly increased during the Three Kingdoms period, as seen from Galmae-ri, Gua-ri, Horogoru, and Muchon sites. As the hunting of wild animals, such as deer and wild boar, remained the key source of meat into the Three Kingdoms period, most of domesticated pigs were recovered from the ritual context and/or as socioeconomic prestige items. The provision of meat does not appear to have been the primary factor behind its introduction and utilization. Domesticated pigs were mainly used as sacrificial victims in ritual settings. Animal sacrifice plays a crucial role not only in the formation of symbolic conceptualization, but also in the construction of social relations. The introduction of domesticated pigs in the Korean peninsula seems to be controlled by the elite, as a part of constructing their socioeconomic power.

The tensile deformation behavior of copper, brass, nickel silver, phosphorous bronze and cold rolled steel sheets were studied. Based on true stress-true strain curves obtained by the uniaxial tension test at a constant cross-head speed, several constitutive equations were determined utilizing the regression analysis, and applicability of these equations to describe the stress-strain behavior of the non-ferrous alloys was investigated. In the present study, a Modified Voce equation, σ= B - (B - A) exp(-nε-C) is suggested, where a new term "C" has been incorporated into the exponential term of the Voce equation. The Modified Voce equation fits best with the experimental data of the nonferrous alloys and cold rolled steel sheets tested. From detail analysis of the exponential term, the value of "C/n" is found to be equal to the amonunt of pre-strain.
